Reading between the lines of this comic, it seems to me that by going super villain, Elliot is simply gaining access to power he already has, but that would ordinarily do him little good, since he hasn't the skill to use it. Cheer seems to be fighting while flying just fine, for example, despite Elliot's profession of ignorance on that topic. So, could this have been avoided by practicing Cheerleadra's skills? If so, where could she do it without gaining unwanted attention or causing major property damage? What could she do? Weightlifting comes to mind, if Elliot could access sufficiently heavy weights, but that seems pretty limited. Fly blindfolded through the forest to exercise flight, awareness, and, probably, endurance?

50% boost over Shortleadra's 16/14, sweet. The Emissary of Magic, however, warned that this was a bad trade. The downside must be epic.

And now I'm picturing Cheerleadra with a goatee, à la Mirror Universe Spock. -

I run edited text through Notepad to strip out hidden characters. Works, but it's a PITA. There must be a better way to launder text.

The lion-griffin doesn't see right. Like he''s being controlled.

Right now, I'm thinking kidnapping, rather than regicide, is the goal.

You mean panel 7 of this comic? I thought Ed meant that Elliot's awareness was dialed up to three.

A bit of wild speculation here: We never did find out how Voltaire's proposal to the rest of the Immortals was received. Voltaire has reason to be pissed off at Tara and Elliot, and perhaps, Mr. Verres. If he attacked the humans while pretending to be a Griffin and vice versa...

Dan showed us Grace and Elliot alive. That last frame where we see Edward's glasses, but not Edward himself is ominous, to say the least. On the other hand, we haven't seen his corpse, either.

Just recently alluded to it: https://www.egscomics.com/comic/balance-119 Not sure it's ever been explicit before.

My money is on one or both of the Griffins being angered by something. What occurs to me is the presence of Grace and/or Edward; the absence of Nanase and Ellen; Voltaire; or, just maybe, the change in Elliot's magic, which Tara at least, can sense and is suspicious about. The "pulsing" may be the result of cooler-headed Andrea trying to calm her mate down.

Grace being so obviously hale and hearty may be part of the reason for Ellen's smile. But I'll bet she's enjoying the hug. And thinking about baseball. -

Comic for Friday February 25, 2022
Amiable Dorsai replied to Darth Fluffy's topic in Comic Discussion
Good point. Lavender moving in would open several possible cans of worms. She could explain the Uryuom birds and bees to Grace. Alternately, she could have a prejudice against Seyunlos, and fail to get along with Grace at all. She could discover that she can use one of Tedd's wands, revealing that Uryuoms can use Human Magic and that Grace is not just a fluke. She could get a Human form from the T-gun.- 46 replies

"Sheep dog" seems apt. Elliot is the latest character who is being forced to reevaluate their self-image in a major way. We've seen this with Ellen, Susan, Grace, and Tedd. Elliot's journey seems to be the most drawn out, however. Harking back to Monday's retcon discussion, on further thought it seems to me that the largest retcon has been the change of the comic from its early emphasis on action and more blatant humor to the more character-driven stories and humor of the present. I confess that I miss Lord Tedd and Damien while still appreciating the character growth of the main cast. We've had plenty of foreshadowing that things are about to heat up, though. Looking forward to it.

Hmmmm... There were, I suppose, some unstated premises. Probably comic books would be part of my base, certainly they changed immensely over the time I was reading them. I'm old enough to remember Batman before the television show. The characters, and the whole tone of the stories in the books, changed to match the TV version. It was disappointing to say the least. Before my time, before Dr. Wertham (Google him if you don't know about this) forced the industry to geld itself, the stories tended to be grimmer and bloodier. There was a Batman story where he killed the bad guys with a machine gun! Another consideration would be Dan himself, whom I've never met and can't claim to know, but he talks about himself in the notes, so what he has shared about himself would be a part of my thinking. Dan was in high school when he conceived of Elliot, Tedd and Sarah. Their growth as characters would be influenced by his maturation from high school to art school to adulthood. Of course there have been changes, my point is that the changes have been, all things considered, minimal and mostly easy to explain away as character growth. Are there retcons? Of course. Do they jar me? Not much.

And a few strips later, Elliot said he was "...just going to chase Tony away..." which seems to be the character that Dan has been giving Elliot for some time now.
-
Considering how long the strip has been going and that Dan has been doing this since high school, the continuity has been remarkably good.
