Amiable Dorsai replied to Darth Fluffy's topic in Comic Discussion
Good point. Lavender moving in would open several possible cans of worms. She could explain the Uryuom birds and bees to Grace. Alternately, she could have a prejudice against Seyunlos, and fail to get along with Grace at all. She could discover that she can use one of Tedd's wands, revealing that Uryuoms can use Human Magic and that Grace is not just a fluke. She could get a Human form from the T-gun.- 46 replies

Alternately, someone is moving in. Lavender, perhaps? That could get... interesting.- 46 replies

"Sheep dog" seems apt. Elliot is the latest character who is being forced to reevaluate their self-image in a major way. We've seen this with Ellen, Susan, Grace, and Tedd. Elliot's journey seems to be the most drawn out, however. Harking back to Monday's retcon discussion, on further thought it seems to me that the largest retcon has been the change of the comic from its early emphasis on action and more blatant humor to the more character-driven stories and humor of the present. I confess that I miss Lord Tedd and Damien while still appreciating the character growth of the main cast. We've had plenty of foreshadowing that things are about to heat up, though. Looking forward to it.

Hmmmm... There were, I suppose, some unstated premises. Probably comic books would be part of my base, certainly they changed immensely over the time I was reading them. I'm old enough to remember Batman before the television show. The characters, and the whole tone of the stories in the books, changed to match the TV version. It was disappointing to say the least. Before my time, before Dr. Wertham (Google him if you don't know about this) forced the industry to geld itself, the stories tended to be grimmer and bloodier. There was a Batman story where he killed the bad guys with a machine gun! Another consideration would be Dan himself, whom I've never met and can't claim to know, but he talks about himself in the notes, so what he has shared about himself would be a part of my thinking. Dan was in high school when he conceived of Elliot, Tedd and Sarah. Their growth as characters would be influenced by his maturation from high school to art school to adulthood. Of course there have been changes, my point is that the changes have been, all things considered, minimal and mostly easy to explain away as character growth. Are there retcons? Of course. Do they jar me? Not much.

And a few strips later, Elliot said he was "...just going to chase Tony away..." which seems to be the character that Dan has been giving Elliot for some time now.
-
Considering how long the strip has been going and that Dan has been doing this since high school, the continuity has been remarkably good.

Both Tara and Andrea thought that "I am in search of Avalon" was a code phrase that they could use to get help (presumably from people in the know about the two-sided nature of the world). Was this just another of Volty's lies, or is there an underground network of some sort that has so far escaped Edward's attention?
-
I don't suppose the volley counts as a canon ball.... Dan definitely overthought this, so much work should count for something.
-
All true enough, but she looks harmless, and mostly acts harmless. Until you get to know them both pretty well, Elliot is much more frightening.
-
Well, maybe you don't hit it that hard with the torch... Just hard enough so the differential expansion pulverizes the rust. Then you wallop the hell out of it. If that doesn't work, then you let Mr. Torch get his jollies.
-
Not knowing where your gas tank is in relation to the hitch, I'm hesitant to recommend the use of the Blue Wrench (hit it with a torch).
-
I suspect mine would not be terrific for hauling, but the mount for the hitch will also hold a bicycle carrier, and we've used that quite a bit.
-
I suspect Ed has more than a little to do with Eliot's worries.

Edward has been treating Tedd as an adult for some time, now. I suspect that Arthur's recounting of Tedd's conversation with The Will of Magic (we didn't see it, but you know it had to happen) probably tipped Edward even farther in that direction. While he's still protective of Grace, the same thing seems to happening with her.- 18 replies

I was taught a "60 second neuro exam" as part of my first aid for scuba divers course. One of the tests involved using a flashlight to see if both pupils contracted the same way when you shined a light into the eyes. ..

She probably got an exam of sorts after Damien's demise, if only by a medic.

I hadn't really thought this through, but an Immortal from our side of the world might not be bound by the rules set by the "Ancients" on the Griffins side. If so, the presence of such a loose cannon would be unwelcome by said Ancients. It's not obvious to me that Tara and Andrea consider themselves agents or diplomats of their government, however structured. Tara, at least, seems to take things into her own paws. Tara might not be concerned with niceties like distinguishing our Immortals from the rest of our world.- 29 replies

Sure, but Andrea was used as a pawn by Voltaire and Pandora blocked a flow of Magic into their side of the world. Even without a change in Immortal Law, they have reason to be pissed. Edward may seem a bit paranoid, but he has legitimate reason to be worried.- 29 replies

"The Toothpick in the Pebble?" Lumos would be a pretty useful spell, especially if you could get more than the little flashbulb pop that Ashley seems to be managing. A little flashlight is part of my EDC. It would be nice to have one less thing to haul around. -

A Pyrrhic victory if ever there was one. -
I still think that Kevin, being newly and unintentionally sentient, simply has not learned any manners. He (?) somehow knows English, and about Magic, but those things could have been given him by Arthur when he was created. Which brings up another idea: Perhaps Kevin is what Arthur would be without socialization. Perhaps Arthur copied his knowledge, but not his social graces, into Kevin. They both demonstrate a certain ruthlessness.
