  1. Story: Wed Feb 21, 2018

Low energy version of FV5 applied to women should be "safe enough". Of course, not good idea trying it on men. Note that Ellen might still be able to cast FV5 faster than other beams, which may be useful if she wants to transform lot of people. On the other hand, perhaps she would use something else in such case ...
  2. Story: Wed Feb 21, 2018

A severe change would still have a chance of backfiring, yes, they might have still come to that conclusion as well so then it would be a matter of which would be better off, risk having a severe change backfiring and whatever consequences that would have Will of magic estimated the chance of backfiring to 100%. I agree. Consequences are known: another conference in month, where thousand seers wouldn't have problem convincing magic that another reset wouldn't help ... and it will stop limiting magic just month later with more active magic users. There are just two options: either Will of Magic will try to limit how public magic is, or it gives up on it. The "all seers will be informed" is apparently autonomous function which can't be stopped. Limiting magic so much not even thousand seers will be able to make it public afterwards is probably also impossible. Not doing anything at all might have best results, but obviously would only work until the number of magic users goes over limit. You have some idea?
  3. Story: Wed Feb 21, 2018

Aren't you contradicting yourself? Ellen actually has good reason to zap people outside their circle, but even better reason to not forget to zap them back. (I suspect that getting useful resistance takes long, but maybe at least to get them to pre-not-reset level and make less likely they get transformed permanently?) I think we saw two types of spells: resistance based and "as long as powered" based. Of course, it's possible those "as long as powered" do have some inertia ... or WILL have inertia now. I doubt this. Even with lowered resistance, spells which would last hour under old system (and there seem to be lot of those) are unlikely to become permanent.

I know cheetahs are cats, but realistically would they run from domestic dogs, or be chased by them? I'd be more inclined to believe the opposite would be true, but that's probably not what Hanma was going for here soo we'll have a golden retriever and a poodle chasing a big cat that could easily outrun them. So what? Dogs are also known to chase cars, and most cars are even quicker (although usually not allowed to use that speed by traffic rules - I mean, dogs don't chase cars on expressways, but in residential areas). Hmmm ... maybe Susan won't win?

You'd want a class in that. Some people's sexual history are terribly complicated... Obviously it would only include important people's sexual history ... like Cleopatra VII Philopator ... but yes even that would likely get complicated. Probably not. It might be little more interesting hearing that, but actually learning it ... But history isn't my favorite subject, so saying that making it more complicated won't make it better isn't saying much ... Agree.
  6. http://www.egscomics.com/?id=2461 Arthur: "Isn't that just what we've been saying"? ... yes, it is. It's just translation. (As we were already talking about in forum for previous comic.) Arthur's "What" on end is also good, although I predicted facepalm. (Commentary:) Shark's sensing magnetism is relatively normal kind of sense. Let's look at something harder: Imagine AI which only perceives world through the changes of frequency of specific words in news. (Unless you work in Google, then you don't need to imagine.) Magic might be more similar to this, having most information about world from what spells will people desire and how are they using them ... like, if there is epidemic, it doesn't see lot of sick people. It senses lot of people suddenly wanting healing spells.
  7. Story: Wed Feb 21, 2018

First, maybe they still need to. Second, giant pigs are not good for environment even if they don't overeat. I'm pretty sure time travel is still impossible exactly for this reason. Doesn't matter. I'll spell those options for you again: 1) Get magic into public now, with relatively low number of people knowing about it, although the number will rise. 2) Get magic into public next month, with much bigger number of people knowing about it and still rising. I think that this assumption is incorrect and TF gun transformation DOES rely on enchantment resistance ... the uryuom transformation simulator bases its duration expectations on what would happen with an average human. It is indeed possible to have more force in spell ... it would result in longer duration in old system. Yes, maybe transformation supposed to take month will became permanent after one week, while transformation supposed to take week will only become permanent after two weeks. Meanwhile, that permanent transformation Tedd has is different kind of spell (not enchantment) and people were already able to get it before. Assuming he survives meeting Magus. Understatement of a week? Essentially, the way Magic kept the secrecy was by restricting it's use in many areas, it blocked out certain methods rather than erasing them, and it boosted resistances so that most enchantments weren't permanent and more likely to fly under the radar due to change blindness or something. So in order to make magic available to all, all barriers need to go down. Magic doesn't have CHOICE here. IMHO "infeasible" means that with enough magic users trying to push the limits, the limits won't hold. And maybe if the Will of Magic actually waited until someone will force-breaks the limits, it would cause some additional problem, like some sort of disaster when they break. Maybe. However, he didn't made up those arguments. It was all true and trying to hide it from magic wouldn't solve anything. Without the reset mechanism, magic would simply fail to hold those limits. So yes it would work. To rephrase the "reset" question: "Should I [meaning will of magic] keep trying to hide magic, or is that battle already lost?"
  8. Story, Friday February 16, 2018

... is that history class which includes stuff like who had sex with whom? I would say training is the important part. If the pulse rifle is sturdy enough, it may be better weapon than rocks even unpowered and without bayonet ... IF the soldiers are trained to use it that way instead of being so confused by it not firing they stop even looking around.
  9. NP Wednesday Feb 21, 2018

Me three. Alternatively, the Cheetah card transformation includes more fur than it should.
  10. NP Friday Feb 16, 2018

Tried to look for some wikis. Seems true even in comics. And yes, obviously Mystique is better example than Hope.
  11. Story: Wed Feb 21, 2018

I don't think so. Even Tedd, not speaking about Arthur, is aware that severe change will be worse. This is their "so ... there really wasn't ANY good option?" face. No self defense. Just new ID cards anyone with clearance to read anything similar to state secret (like, including congressmen etc) will need to carry. It's not like they need to TELL them it's supposed to increase their magic resistance ... yet. If different enchantments counts as different, main cast is definitely safe, yes. We DO sort of have semi-permanently transformed character already: Vladia. But yes, obviously this will become plot point in near future. Hmmm ... Sam? Agree again. But not even Pandora remembers time before last reset ... and Abraham was using current magic, so is likely more modern as well ... ... maybe it will really be "just" about artefacts. I suspect that magic resistance is more important than the severity of change. "Hit"? Possibly none. The spell resistance of normal people was already effectively zero. But the change of ENCHANTMENT resistance might be important. Maybe TF gun will now transform for twice as long, or, well, indefinitely.
  12. Story, Friday February 16, 2018

Palpatine said that an entire legion of his finest stormtroopers were lying in ambush down there. My own headcanon is that some bureaucratic screwup sent that legion to the other end of the galaxy by mistake. Subsequently some terrified bureaucrat dispatched a couple battalions of green recruits barely able to tell their left feet from their right in their place, hoping no-one would notice the difference. You are underestimating the situation. That legion of finest stormtroopers did never existed except on paper. It was created by bureaucrats reporting better results of training than what really happened because they feared they would be punished otherwise ... and unaware that their reports are exaggerated even more by others.
  13. Story: Wed Feb 21, 2018

I'm not, although I'm not happy with this. Based on "previous systems of magic are now accessible", will of magic was actively making them not work and now is unable to. Meaning, if magic would decide to keep being hidden, that thousand of seers would make it public, there would be another reset, where magic wouldn't even bother listening to those thousand seers and would go for minimal changes ... and everyone who lost magic now would have it back again. So, what exactly would not going public now accomplish? But yes, I expected those changes would be to make situations safer, not less safe. I'm sure Arthur will help. With all DGB's resources. Elliot PROBABLY can't get stuck in single form because he can always use spell to change again, but yes, he has no spell to became man so if he overdoes it he would need to ask Tedd to transform him back with that permanent gender change wand he though about creating. (Hmmm ... although, maybe Elliot as a magic user himself with resistance already build is not in serious danger and this is more about people who are not awakened yet ... hmmm ... could it be that Ellen would transform someone thinking it will wear off and that someone would be permanently FV5?) And possessions becoming permanent sounds like even bigger trouble for those doing the possessing than the possessed. Anyway I don't think there is such danger, AND Ellen and Elliot were not possessed that long. There probably were ... yes. DGB better check all museums quickly. ... scary possibility, but come on, with everything invested in Magus story, do you really think he won't get his own body?
  14. Story, Friday February 16, 2018

Making the rebels short on FOOD supplies would be possible but I would assume they can more quickly make them short on whatever they power the shield with. All true. It is just that... their weaponry was too primitive and the Ewoks themselves kind of runty. Also, those stormtroopers were supposedly elite units. Given that apart from what they captured the Ewoks only had muscle powered weapons it just doesn't seem convincing. Originally the plan was to have the residents be wookiees. If they had stuck to that, the battle would have been far more believable to me. ... that would definitely be better. However, I always suspected that stormtroopers were NOT elite units at that point. Like ... it's the weakest link that impossible chain ; it makes more sense to just assume it was unit of troublemakers who got the assignment as punishment and were not elite to begin with.
  15. NP Friday Feb 16, 2018

That, however, likely wasn't enchantment either ; it was permanent. ... actually, maybe she would. Depends on how those enchantments work. Or, on the other hand, maybe she won't get as morph options the other enchantments either. Yes, I think that would be the most logical option Tedd may use. That would likely be possible - you can morph hair into clothing for example. I was already mentioning it ; the trouble with this is that it doesn't affect clothes you already wear - that means if you use this for clothing, you need to undress first and you will be effectively naked whole time. I think Grace would be enthusiastic of such option. And Ellen would tell Elliot she wants to wear it to school, although PROBABLY wouldn't mean it. Grace would. ( ... naked like Hope here ...)
  16. Story, Friday February 16, 2018

It also helped that Stormtrooper armor was purely decorative... ... and that they have trouble hitting the correct side of planet, yes. To be fair, you can't really defend against orbital bombardment. The siege was likely so Empire can take captives and intelligence ; if the base would prove to be too well defended against that, they could always let the star destroyer fire at it from orbit or put some asteroid on collision course. Hmmm ... apparently the shields CAN protect against orbital bombardment, but maybe can't be hold too long, at least when under attack. Surface attack could've been used as a quicker, not necessary only way to break them.
  17. Story, Monday February 19, 2018

Nice theory, but we were SEEING how Pandora have trouble staying in focus. The "seeing humans as insignificant" may play some role, but not major one, and not in all cases. Jerry was getting MORE empathy, not less, and I repeat that main reason Helena and Demetrius didn't accounted for how it will traumatise Susan was that based on what was normal in time they were fifty, they already considered her adult. Also tunnel-vision, yes. It is possible, of course. But Magic still cared enough to tell Tedd that Pandora had reset so as to remember him as family. Though this might just have been relating what it saw as 'possibly pertinent information', or some similar clinical reason. It's more other way around: magic DO see humans as worth caring about, but doesn't know HOW (or more exactly, has trouble with the caring itself). Although it's true it's attempt to care are more for humans as species than individuals ... I still think that the idea behind telling Tedd Pandora will remember him was more like "I'm not sure why are you angry, but you have incomplete information ; if you will still be angry after having complete information, it would at least be for correct reason". Yes. Magic was clever enough to realize that the conditions WILL change at some point, but logically needed convincing it already happened. Yes. It was obvious he wants Pandora to do something stupid, but it wasn't clear why ; there was option he simply didn't liked her, or that it was just because it was surest way to cause the magic reset. But seems he EXPECTED she will do something eminent enough to trigger "Constitutional Convention".
  18. Story, Friday February 16, 2018

Meanwhile, our brains have LOT of processing power on image recognition and trajectory calculation. We can do image recognition MUCH more reliable than computers, and while targeting software can predict trajectory better than people, it requires radar ; the task of identifying unknown moving object from video alone and predicting it's trajectory is hard for computers. Yet we are not getting percentages from those. It's not NATURAL for humans to think that way, that's why math is considered hard. That is true. We also have almost no control of our bowels (except their ends), yet they do lot of moving. The horrible thing is, I feel the Gungans in general (not including Jar-Jar) are just so much better than the Ewoks. Yes, they are comparatively primitive but their weaponry makes sense. Instead of using stone age weaponry it is more like a late 19th century army (with an extremely tough defensive position) facing a WW2 army. However, Ewoks had BIG element of surprise on their side, and I suspect numerical advantage. It's interesting how their technology is superior to ours but the way they are using it is extremely ineffective. Robot-based infantry requires very advanced technology but yes it's still tactic of first world war, and their starfighters, while obviously able to fly in atmosphere, are so sparely used ... ... but yes, it might be because they haven't got that style of war for centuries, if not thousand years. Pacification of primitive natives, yes. Space battles, yes. But war between armored units, no.

It's only enchantments based on Uryuom magic, such as the TFG and Ellen's beams, that never enchant Grace. Non-Uryuom magic should be able to enchant her just fine. Yeah I did realized it later. It CAN still mean that transformation enchantments don't work on her, but we don't know it. Enchantments NOT based on transformations, however ... I still think the game will be unable to prevent her from transforming because it wouldn't be able to affect Uryuom power. Tedd, yes. Pandora? She might've failed to realize WHY Tedd tries to make such spell. We rarely see those in comics, but there ARE other enchantments than transformations. ... actually, we never saw them in comics. Even Not-tengu spell, which's main point was to make people obey him, had transformation component. However, it must be possible to make that spell without transformation. Also, it's probably possible to make someone fly without transforming him to have wings (considering the wings are too small to really help anyway ; BTW Nanase's flying likely isn't enchantment, but ability to fly IS part of Cheerleadra spell, which is enchantment.) Anyway: I think that Uryuom power is not able to affect clothes (that's why they developed special stretchy fabric as their work clothes instead) and that no spell will be able to teach Grace how to overcame this limitation.

a.) Voltaire actually knows some gods and don't want to annoy them ... or is aware of some disadvantage of the "god" package he's not interested in. b.) Dan thinks this will annoy Catholics less. c.) Voltaire is thinking in different language than English and this is mistranslation. Voltaire being realistic doesn't seem likely.
  21. Story, Monday February 19, 2018

I suspect that division of fairies to seelie and unseelie was prank one of fairies did in past. There is obviously just one group of fairies and the most "seelie" one we saw created hammers to encourage inappropriate comments from men by providing women with a tangible but ultimately harmless counterattack. While Van didn't say much during the meeting to convince the WoM, without his presence Tedd might have been unable to focus. Even with the knowledge of Pandora's "refresh" Tedd might still have been too emotional to be able focus on what she needed to say. Whether or not Tedd recognized Van as family, there was probably still something about Van that gave Tedd the strength to keep going. That's possible, but it was still Tedd who did it. Somehow I don't think he will be speaking about toys on the meeting. Equal? Unlikely. I think Zeus might argue about immortals actually CHOOSING if they do or don't support the forced reset. Quite likely. Also the reply mentioning that he might've been risking Pandora's revenge over that might be true, but note that Voltaire previously mentioned the option that he will befriend Tedd ... hmmm ... note that maybe the second purpose is not as easy to invalidate and it wouldn't count if Voltaire just TOLD it to Tedd and Tedd wouldn't believe him - which he likely wouldn't, after trying to kill Elliot. But him simply not knowing seems most likely. I still think we would get back to the "serious discussion", except it would be like Tedd or even more likely Arthur having more questions and magic simply saying "the decision was made, dismissed" without answering any. This comics was here simply to underscore that the change - specifically, the minimal change - already happened. Also, note that it might became harder for people to became magic users, but it's possible existing magic users are safe, that nothing changed for THEM. (Of course, Sarah and Catalina who didn't awakened yet may be in problem.) I think that Voltaire disappears now because the immortal council and the change of immortal rules will be something happening later, in different storyline. And all those other options, like Voltaire being de-fanged or ripped apart, will wait for that. ... talking cat? Why? (Also, I don't think Pandora fingered Voltaire before reset, however main eight KNOW about Voltaire being the one trying to kill Elliot and it doesn't require hundreds of years of experience to realize he's the most likely suspect for this as well.)
  22. Story, Monday February 19, 2018

Yes, this is not first time we speak about it. Was it you who had the additional assumption of Arthur being aware he has contact with Voltaire?
  23. Story, Monday February 19, 2018

Would require the law change taking longer than I would expect, but otherwise I like that idea. Although I like the idea that Voltaire just completely misjudges other immortals more - I mean, that even without Pandora's argumentation those new rules will be something Voltaire wouldn't like.
  24. Story, Monday February 19, 2018

He also didn't know about Van, but he assumes that Tedd wasn't the one that convinced the WoM. To be fair, without Tedd Van would be unlikely to change decision of Will of Magic. Voltaire's assumption is simply wrong. (Hmmm ... he also seem to not know about those two seers which found about their second purpose ... so he likely wasn't the one who told them.) Not mine. I know at least one worse ... wait. Two. Maybe three? Not sure ... Charlie is definitely more dangerous, but might not be more evil. (Hmmm ... Charlie is rule lawyer. With Voltaire's power, he would rule the world - WITHOUT breaking "empower and guide". Snadhya, meanwhile, is more crazy than fairy of her age would be, and quite delusional ... she would avoid the reset by being convinced she's not doing anything wrong. Yeah, compared to them, Voltaire is lame, which is fitting considering he's just starter enemy for Tedd to train on before moving to actual thread.) Plan CM seems working for now. Pandora did something which is big enough Immortals may decide to change their laws.
  25. Story, Monday February 19, 2018

... which makes more likely he was secretly "guiding" him to informations about reset. And we have confirmation that he wanted magic reset, that it was to make it LESS public ... and that he underestimated number of seers even more than Arthur. Meaning, plan CM was not THAT complicated. Also, not only he didn't predicted Pandora making Tedd feeling better, he didn't even NOTICED.
