Dull things can be sharpened. All you need is a good whetstone and some time. Look at how many ways prisoners have found to create shivs. I tried. I think that it depends on quality of the metal. Or I didn't "sharpen" through the paint yet. You don't need a lot of money to get a sword, just a credit card number or paypal account and the internet. When Highlander was at its peak, I remember there were a boatload of replica swords available from the official catalog. Current TV shows and movies probably do the same, and there's also eBay and such for the ones not for sale any more. I've even seen them show up in thrift shops from time to time! Those replica swords would be prime case of something which is unlikely to be actually usable as weapon and I would expect Susan to know better - I mean, I know better and I'm not that experienced in weapon making. Wikipedia talks about materials, weight and balance and hilt construction. Also note that I actually think Susan not only owns a sword, but was actually doing some training with swords, at least basics. Some fencing club or how it's called if they use real swords instead of foils. Right. Forgot we have internet and webshops rarely have "WTF are you needing this for" field on order form. Note that those with replaceable blades wouldn't be good in traditional fight, but with the one-hit limit that shouldn't matter. Wait. Actually the model builder is fantastic excuse. The only difference between professional and amateur is how much money they are willing to use. I mean, Susan only needs one youtube video where scalpels are recommended for building models and fake interest in making one and even her mother is unlikely to find it weird, especially if it would be startrek models. (She's also unlikely to find weird if Susan fails to actually make the model. "Didn't expected it would be that hard.") Based on meta, I would say yes. I mean, there must be some story reason why her fairies are exploding, and being usable against vampires is great one.
  2. Story Friday September 15, 2017

You're right, Pandora said so. But I still think it's more plausible that Felix is more about wanting Kitty to accept him/her than a pre-Kitty identification with the opposite gender. Well, if Dan explicitly saying it's not the case in the comics commentary won't convince you, hard to think about other arguments ...
  3. Star Trek DS9 versus B5

Wasn't the worst problem that they tried to adapt to what Turner wanted? Which 1) didn't helped Turner to not stop them 2) made show worse? Unlikely. There are just nine circles. Also, why should he have the advantage of privacy? In fact, I know of perfect person to put near him: Palpatine himself I'm sure neither will enjoy the other. Budget was a consideration. TNG had to do everything with physical models so starship battles were costly. As the first major show to go heavily CGI (exclusively with its starships), Babylon 5 proved the viability of CGI as a alternate way of doing starships and effects (and bringing down the price while they were at it). DS9 jumped on the bandwagon. They even used the same CGI company as B5 used for seasons 1-4: Foundation imaging. It's entirely possible that CGI enabled DS9 to stage the Dominion war. And that's not even talking about how TOS wasn't able to use CGI It's surprising that CGI spaceships needed almost as long to appear viable as CGI for characters. One would expect spaceships would be simpler, and there were already CGI spaceships in 1984 (The Last Starfighter, Lensman: Secret of The Lens), but 1987 show still uses physical models and only after Jurassic Part, Death Becomes Her and Terminator 2 someone tries CGI for spaceships in major show. Also yes Dominion war without CGI would be hard to do ... or would look weird. I mean, there was ONE major battle in TNG ... but we only actually saw it in DS9.

Cocktail swords wouldn't endure even ONE blow and wouldn't be sharp. Of course are likely the only things fairy can actually wield as sword - the other ideas would be held more like polearm, specifically likely Glaive. Yes those might work. I have letter opener which looks nice, dagger-like and is cold on touch which suggests it's actually metal. It's still barely sharp enough to cut the letter. I think that anything not actually designed to cut would do bad job cutting. Might be fun, especially if she wants something which looks nice. However, if we want something mass-manufactured yet still extremely effective, although requiring harder to explain shopping ... surgical scalpel. Comes in variety of shapes, but mostly are designed to be hold in fingers and not whole hand, meaning their handles are not too big. And, obviously, are really sharp. (Hmmm ... considering Susan somehow obtained real sword, I suppose she would be able to explain scalpel somehow.)

Anyone marked at the mall (including Kitty and that one with spell for finding puppies) might already awaken and get second spell. I mean, the chance may not be big, but I wouldn't risk it. Luke is aware of marks but not that they can disappear, meaning he still has his, meaning he didn't awakened yet and has single spell with no offensive use. Sarah's spell might not seem to have offensive uses but only until she goes for blackmail. AND she has friends. ... actually, Luke also has friends ... Ok. Better not tick off any magic user.
  6. NP Friday Sep 15 2017

Sooo ... which magic user you think would be good idea to tick off? (I think none, so reminding Rhoda specifically would be superfluous. Well, ok, maybe Luke.)
  7. Story Friday September 15, 2017

He did nearly screwed it. His original idea was that they will notice the split on their own (and then stop/divide). They didn't, he needed to warn them. Well considering Susan isn't Adrian's daughter but great-grand daughter or something, no wonder she wasn't THAT thorough. You think Noriko would want to marry such cheating- ... wait. We don't talk about marrying him are we? Yeah that could work. In fact Noriko might PREFER someone she can dump immediately after getting pregnant without worrying she will hurt him (undeservedly).
  8. Story, Wednesday September 13, 2017

Actually, Rhoda shrinking the fairy dolls might work. It wouldn't NEED to but it could - and it would only allow ONE shrinking, not repeating the process. And yes, Nanase's fairy dolls are persistent (although I wouldn't say mundane), Susan's are not.
  9. Story Friday September 15, 2017

Jerry's alive! Sounds like he's yelling at himself, maybe he was in physical form a moment earlier and dropped it on accident cus of nerves? Though is he expecting something to happen to Susan at school that he's put off checking on Diane, or was soda spillage it? I have another theory: what if he dropped the soda DELIBERATELY to slow them down and prevent them from encountering something else? ... didn't stopped me Hmmmm .... Makes sense. If there would be just two faces, Helena and Demetrius would be an option, but I don't think those two would do three faces. And I would also expect that Pandora spied on Adrian and Tedd often enough before. Also, as I already mentioned, I would suppose she was doing background check on every Tedd's friend, just like Edward did. With her abilities she may be only one who can actually confirm Susan and Diane are twins ... if they are twins, of course.
  10. Story, Wednesday September 13, 2017

Have you considered these possibilities? Susan could use a larger purse. Susan could use her backpack The question was specifically about purse and I don't think Susan have multiple purses. Sure, she may decide to get full backpack of fairies for THIS meeting, but she will still only have one in purse. I don't think she summons multiple fairies unconsciously often. The sword was really exceptional case. Would be an interesting experiment, though it could end with unexpected results. Susan's fairies are already from the unexpected results that happen when you mix magic from two different people. Mixing in the magic of a third person might cause excessive weirdness. Though we won't know until it's done and weirdness isn't always bad. Yup, definitely worth a try ... but carefully and with cover. I think not. Non-exploding fairies wouldn't be as entertaining. It would like putting seat belts on the bridge chairs in Star Trek and fixing them to the deck. When asked why that wasn't done, Gene Roddenberry replied that if he did that, the actors wouldn't fall out of their chairs. Except Susan's reaction to exploding unsummoning was to NEVER UNSUMMON. There is no additional entertainment at that. I'm sure establishing the unsummoning of fairy make it explode by default was just because it was only way how to make Susan test something like that ... and she will need it later. There is exactly ZERO reasons why adding cocktail swords wouldn't work. Of course, cocktail swords are not likely to be durable, while boxcutter would be too big to handle for fairy: personally I would choose big needle (sewing one, although I saw metal knitting needles which could also work) or nail. I'm pretty sure that putting something Susan summoned back to the box wouldn't allow it to be summoned even if not enchanted with anything else. Dan already fought hard to establish that repeating spells infinitely is not going to work with Ellen's spells.
  11. NP Friday Sep 15 2017

I think that the first. Although not sure why. I'm pretty sure she can do that in canon if Pandora was right about her being S-Rank. I would also assume that Rhoda being able to do this is canon.
  12. Story, Wednesday September 13, 2017

Well she can't fit all of them. Might even actually only fit one. Note that it's not like she couldn't summon all of them if the place she meets Diane in would be private enough ... but, question is what to do with them when going in public.
  13. NP Wednesday Sep 13 2017

If the fourth wall wouldn't exist, we wouldn't see them. Although it's questionable if it can still be called "wall". I'm not surprised. If she knows the changes are temporary ... and considering she already accepted being eye candy for customers ... it's interesting thing to try. So both. Why is this missing in commentary under comic?
  14. Story, Wednesday September 13, 2017

I'm thinking that she should use BOTH during the meeting. It's not like her using magic would surprise Diane. But she should arrive as herself.
  15. Story, Wednesday September 13, 2017

Grace likely doesn't have more experience with Diane than Ellen, BUT she's likely to have more insight based on that, yes. I don't think she needs more informations about Diane's LOOK. She has mirror - and watches for different height. She's asking about her character.
  16. Story, Wednesday September 13, 2017

I think Nanase is joking in that panel. However, Susan IS capable of puppydog eyes. Yes. Also, yes: it totally seem to be Elliot.
  17. Story Friday September 8, 2017

I don't think you can call Jedi mindless, there was no wall involved and while coup is technically also revolution, I think the revolution in that phrase refers to actual mob-based revolution.
  18. Story Monday Sep 11 2017

I think it was other way around - that it was Susan who developed her reaction to physical contact due to her traumatic childhood. Diane didn't have that much money but her childhood was less problematic AND she had sister. It would get known between the boys. It's true that just because she was doing it doesn't mean she liked it ... ... but it's unlikely she would assume she can avoid even cuddling and kissing with Elliot. On the other hand, she's visiting the other school, so she might not saw Elliot kissing Sarah ... Lot of girls have no problem having no emotional connection with boys they go all the way with (although boys are better known for it). But yes, not only she didn't wanted the emotional connection, she didn't needed the physical contact from them either. I just think she also didn't had any problem with it (although as I already noted, it's also possible she didn't liked it and was just pretending).
  19. Star Trek DS9 versus B5

Not voluntarily shortened to 4 seasons. IIRC (and it has been a while) Babylon 5's network, PTN, died out from under them. Then it was picked up by Turner Broadcasting for Season 5. Nevertheless, they weren't brave enough to just continue as originally planned and just count on someone picking them. On the other hand, considering how Crusade didn't ended, it would need lot of bravery. yes it was one moment of Jar-jar being a useful idiot. I acknowledge that Jake Sisko had to sustain his his useful idiocy over the long-haul. I'd maintain that jar-jar did more damage to his universe with that one moment however. Sure he did more damage, but if it wasn't him Palpatine would find some other useful idiot to do the same damage. I don't think there was any shortage. Well C3PO was build by Anakin from parts found on junk heap. I think we know why the personality module ended there. Of course, poor Anakin (literally poor) couldn't afford anything better. I'm surprised Jake Sisko wasn't imprisoned and used as a hostage. Or worse tortured, broken and mind-mucked as the Cardassians had partly done to Jean Luc Picard years earlier. They could have made Jake Sisko into a Cardassian agent well before the Dominion War was over. I guess they decided that Jake was doing pretty well by them entirely on his own and he didn't have the stuff to make a decent spy. He wouldn't be useful agent but think about the morale boost torturing him could bring! Really surprising. ... or maybe they did and it was so fast it didn't even get on screen. She knew it's not his fault. Maybe she even blamed herself for giving her seat to such idiot. Yes ... it's possible they rejected the concept because they though it doesn't fit and it took them two seasons (and B5 getting on air) to realize that the closer to it they get the better DS9 will be. It's true that until DS9, Star Trek was very careful to avoid any war getting onscreen, although it could be due to what would war do to budget.
  20. Story Friday September 8, 2017

I had figured that way of thinking was due to them being a bunch of ossified hidebound imaginationless has-beens, since it eventually lead to the demise of the council. Yeah ... I see no conflict between "attempts to prevent it actually being the cause" and most of Jedi Council being "bunch of ossified hidebound imaginationless has-beens", so I think both are true. Were true. I just think that Yoda, despite being on council, wasn't that much ossified, though - he was just giving in to peer pressure.
  21. Story Monday Sep 11 2017

Diane never used hand sanitizer and only time she was concerned about cleanness was on toilet. Sure, neither Diane nor Grace were there for the reason people usually go on toilet (or at least why MEN usually go - not sure what else women may be doing there) but Diane didn't knew that. I don't believe she would get far without touching anyone. Considering their age, I find more likely hugging and kissing don't count and the "need to get physical" was related to some of her dates already pressing for more - something involving genitals. Which, obviously, made her dump him quickly because she's not THAT kind of girl. That's possible. However, if it didn't come out explicitly, her being with Elliot might be giving incorrect idea about how "no touchy" she is.
  22. Story Monday Sep 11 2017

On panel, possibly, although it's interesting detail. However, Susan was on much more panels, so there would be big difference in ratio of touch / no touch panels, and what's more important, we might actually saw ALL cases Susan was hugging someone, while Diane was likely hugging lot of people off panel. Like all those boys she got money from. And touching even more of them - that examples with Rhoda in both Death Sentence and End of an Era are they typical interaction, they likely touched similarly every time they got together, and they are friends for years. Also, you totally forgot Diane touching Rhoda here in Hidden Genesis. On the other hand, you also forgot Susan touching Tedd in Shadows After Dark, although I'm not sure if this really counts.
  23. Story Friday September 8, 2017

Yeah, but he doesn't know what his second purpose is so (and neither do we still) so who knows what Tedd might do in the heat of the moment that's favorable to Voltaire's "plan A". Wasn't Anakin warned about the dark side? Well, yes, but in very unclear terms. "Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering." is deep philosophy, but not that useful as warning. (Or wait, was this only told to Luke?)
  24. Story Monday Sep 11 2017

Elliot was able to catch a plot hole. I wouldn't put it past Diane to catch inconsistencies and whatnot. He also commented that if he was able to notice, it must've been BIG one. Star Trek? Definitely. However, DS9 specifically might've not been mentioned that often. Note that Justin said "Deep Space Nine", not "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine", meaning he withhold important clue from Diane. (Also, would sound weird if he actually said "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine") Hmmm ... actually there is another pitfall. Diane might saw some Star Trek movie - it would make more sense to her than to watch few episodes from series if she wanted to see what's it about. Now, if it was one of the NEW movies ...
  25. Story Friday September 8, 2017

There's still plenty of things that could happen to set Tedd towards the dark side again, like a bad confrontation with Edward or something. Maybe, but he's also aware of the dark side now.
