      Welcome!   03/05/2016

Welcome, everyone, to the new 910CMX Community Forums. I'm still working on getting them running, so things may change.  If you're a 910 Comic creator and need your forum recreated, let me know and I'll get on it right away.  I'll do my best to make this new place as fun as the last one!

Aw. I remember her 'Shelly DuVall's Fairie Tale Theater', briefly a thing when my kids were just the right age. Quirky retellings with much imagination and wit, and an outstanding cast. I think HBO carried it, IIRC. Decades ago, and I have never seen them available again.

Of all the series-ending episodes I have ever watched, the last episode of Newhart was the only one to make the whole series better.

. . . and tie two series together.

Phil Donahue passed away a week ago. I have not watched him in ages, but long ago I watched his show regularly. He was very liberal, not everyone's cup of tea. I was quite conservative at the time, still found him insightful. His widow is Marlo Thomas of That Girl.

Not only was he a commissioned officer in the Army he got the Ranger tab, back when that was pretty much a all white boys club.

Seem odd that Pete Rose just died. He cut his own throat years ago.

Wonder if they will let him in the Hall of Fame, now that he's dead.

I think they would have already, he was that good, if he hadn't doubled down on denial. Hard to make amends at this point.

Plus, he is mostly forgotten, except by us geriatric codgers.

Gambling was at the heart of the crisis that caused Baseball to form the office of Commissioner in the first place.

The Hall would not consider anyone under a ban.  And the commissioner's office would not lift the ban because some team would almost certainly offer him a position as a coach or manager.  If he was in such a position, it is believed he would use insider knowledge to bet on games he was coaching.

Just like the 1919 White Sox, the Hall will probably never consider Rose despite his on field records.

They can’t lift the ban posthumously in order to nominate him to the Hall of Fame?

I suppose they could, 'XYZ Hall of Fame' rules are fairly arbitrary, looking at exigent examples.

So, why not? Reasons that come to mind are "hurts our credibility", "not going to second guess past decisions", "lowers the bar for future violations", "creeping lax rules", "don't want to make a hero out of him" . . . "we'd have already done it if he'd faced the problem and got help" . . . also "he's old news", "no one remembers him", "no one cares any more", "the kids graduating this year have never heard of Pete Rose"

or perhaps "Yes, we are considering it"; bear in mind, he just recently passed away.
