  3. Pronunciations

It would have to have 2 p's for it to be that. A moper would be someone who mopes which is a form of depression, might not be severe depression, but still it's not a good mood.
  4. Story Wednesday October 19, 2016

Even though Edward says it's a bad idea because of the potential harm it would do if used by the wrong people. The real reason is because trying to make it public would end up making it so no one would have magic for however long it takes for someone to figure out the changes. Sure, Tedd is in a position to be the person that does it, but he's still faced with the threat of another change if he or someone else triedmaking magic public again. I guess you could say he might be wondering if what he's been doing these past few years was really worth it.
  5. Story Wednesday October 19, 2016

Guess that really depends on what the Will of Magic considers mainstream, but also Tedd's work, even if to many people does look like some high tech gadgetry instead of magic, the fact that using said gadgetry will still help exercise a person's own magic and could awaken and get their own spells. Sure, people awakening that way could just easily assume the gadgets did it which wouldn't be entirely true, but it still makes magic mainstream because of the large numbers of people that can get magic that way. It really boils down to keeping the number of magic users to a minimum, the Will of Magic wants to be rare and obscure, it want any showings of magic to be considered miraculous, it wants to inspire legends and myths that are engaging but too fantastic to believe actually happened. Heck, if magic became known to all, what would that do to religion? a good portion of the Bible would be rendered down to "it was magic that caused the flood" "magic that created the burning bush" "Jesus was a wizard" (though I have it on good authority that Jesus was actually a ninja but that's another thing entirely) I doubt we'll actually see what Sarah does in her simulation, but I firmly believe it will either be ruffling Tedd's hair or maybe acting on some of the feelings she had during MV5, either with Tedd, or with Grace, or both, thus reinforcing the possibility of the OT3 being true.

The way I read that was normally for someone who's been marked, they should get enough power to cast the spell on their own before awakening. In Sarah's case the "not doing things in order" comment could mean that Sarah could awaken before she gets enough energy to cast the spell on her own. The "D rank talent with an S rank spell" supports that, S rank being a high tier, high energy cost spell. It's likely the only person in the Main Eight that could cast that spell on their own if they had it would be Nanase, Elliot and Ellen are probably close in energy level, but they don't have many spells at the moment, Nanase has a large arsenal of spells that for a while she was using pretty often trying to get new ones, so she would have exercised her magic the most. I'm mainly basing this on people with no experience with magic having very little energy to start with. That's why Pandora created the clog, so that the ambient energy build up would allow those she marked to use the spells easily and frequently. Sarah did have some experience prior to being marked so she probably did start with more energy than Catalina did, but then their spells require different levels of energy. But it still is very dependent on how much energy their spells need and if they have enough or, if not, if the ambient energy levels in Moperville is still enough to supplement the energy needed. Those variables are unknown, so there is a possibility that it can go either way for those that were marked. A "couple miles out of town" for a town that might be several miles across. If Moperville truely is Dan's representation of Naperville Illinois, then Moperville would cover an area nearly 40 square miles and has 2400 acres of parkland, 1829 acres of that belonging to the Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve, there's also Knoch Knolls Park that has a Nature Center that could fit the bill at the location where the boar was. Heck, looking at this map, I could probably guess that the events of "So a Date" would have happened in the north part of Moperville, Downtown Naperville and Riverwalk Park would be an ideal setting because it has the Moser Tower (for Andrea's landmark and the location of the spider vampire fight), North Central College is nearby (Charlotte's apartment) there's the Riverbrook Shopping Center (The mall) northwest of Riverwalk Park that also happens to have a rail line (that delays Ellen, Nanase and Ashley from catching up to Diane and Charlotte) between them, and then Naperville North High School is also in the area, with Naperville Central Highschool possibly being represented as Moperville South since there is no Naperville South High School and Naperville Central is also close enough to Riverwalk Park. You also gotta consider what direction Ellen went to leave Moperville, they live in the north part of town, and go further north, of course it's likely they'll leave the limit of the magic buildup after a few miles, but if her and Nanase had to go south through Moperville to get to where the were-goat case was, that's several miles through town, then a couple miles out of town. So the ambient energy field can still be very large. Also, the were-goat case happened during the summer and it's likely that the energy field has grown more in the last 6 months.

I just had one of those "was that who played..." moments and looked him up, I totally forgot that he played both G'Kar (B5) and Commander Tomalak (TNG), I also didn't know he passed away 10 years ago from lung cancer.

That's very ironic considering where we live, me being in Canada and you being in Texas, that our mild winter would be your hell freezing over.

I don't see that as Sarah being an exception, I think it does apply to everyone, Sarah's just the most likely because of the fact that her spell requires a lot of energy. We don't know how much energy Rhoda's spell requires, nor do we know how much she has and whether it's enough to cast the spell on her own without excess energy helping out. Same goes for Catalina and Dex and Luke and whoever else has been marked in the past 8 months or so and not yet been awaken, unless they had been doing things that helped build their magic such as ASMA training like Justin had, it's still possible that those marked could potential be unable to cast their spells again. Also, Just because Adrian drove him and Grace to the park doesn't mean it's not in Moperville, Moperville isn't a small place and remember, there is a river with forests running through downtown Moperville, there can be any number of wooded parks there too. Heck, it's even stated that the boar encounter was at the Moperville Forest Preserve, which is very likely the same forest area where Elliot and Nanase met with Tara and Andrea.

I just want to say I totally agree, this was just one of those instances where I tried to lightly roast you for how you worded that post, I tried to make it clearer that it was a roast in my second response with the added Dances with Wolves reference.
  14. Story, Monday October 17, 2016

Well you did throw Rainbow in the pile of hippie names. I just wanted to make it clear that names like that don't always have hippie origins. In fact, I'd say hippies stole the idea, and we should be glad that Kevin Costner didn't cause a resurgence. Edit: Upon looking at the cast of Dances with Wolves, I discovered that one of the actors is actually named Chases His Horse...I get how that name could have originated, but that had to have been hard for the guy growing up.
  15. Story Wednesday October 12, 2016

Bloodgrem I can see being a step up from fairy, I said before that I figured it'd progress from fairy to some sort of animal familiar, to something close to humanoid and eventually to the dragon as Dex gained more power. The bloodgrem could be considered an animal familiar, though the fact that it has some intelligence and doesn't loose data (ie the information about Elliot and the nature of the curse) suggests something different, I think the bloodgrem and others like it exist on a separate plane of reality and might take a bit more effort to summon one and have it obey the summoner than it would to summon a semi-autonomous puppet out of thin air. I just remembered that it had been implied that Susan may be able to take full control of her fairy in a similar manner to Nanase. It hasn't been shown yet so it hasn't been confirmed. Really, the only aspect that has the least likelihood of being doable by all three, is the persistence, Andrea had stated that it was very rare for someone to be able to summon a persistent avatar so I don't see Dex and Susan ever being able to do that.

Upon double checking, it does appear that Rhoda does not have a bag with her, so yeah, how would Rhoda be able to carry Catalina and her clothes out of the mall? Unless the clothes they were wearing in the pinup were clothes they took in with them to try on and then left them in the dressing room it could have happened during So a Date, but judging by the conversation when they left, it doesn't seem like they did anything more than make out. But yeah, Rhoda had maybe 4-4 and a half months since discovering to the current point in the NP (that's a liberal guesstimate as her first use was 5 months prior) then another 3 months to the current timeline, if Pandora's plan is successful, because of Sarah's use of her spell, the amount of energy in the area may be pretty low, and wouldn't take too long to clear to the level it was before Pandora messed with the flow. If Rhoda hadn't exercised her magic enough, then she might lose the abilty to use the spell again, at least until she gains the capacity to do so somehow (either going somewhere with more energy, or getting help through the use of spell catalysts)
  17. http://www.egscomics.com/egsnp.php?id=521 Of course, this is Catalina we're talking about, she wants to keep others from finding out, but is overthinking things. Begin hijinks.

Well yeah, you did say "during those 168 hours" so he was dumped, and emotionally unstable while watching anime, and at some point something just clicked that made him think that he could actually do the stuff shown in the anime, that click might have been the awakening itself.

What if Magic had a mod API?
  20. Story Wednesday October 12, 2016

Still, my point was that it can be the same spell but with different traits base on skill level as well as the person using the spell. In this case we have 3 people of varying skill, Dex is a beginner having more recently been marked, Susan had been marked for a while and recently awakened, and Nanase who's been awakened for a while. Other factors include how Susan obtained the ability to summon fairies*, and the fact that Nanase comes from a family who has very strong connections to magic use. *Yes it is still debatable whether Susan's fairy summons are still a direct use of the "summon whatever I have in a box" spell, or a new standalone spell, I think it is possible that Nanase's fairy doll in the box created the gateway for Susan to be able to get a standalone version.
  21. Story Wednesday October 12, 2016

I meant that it's small enough to not require a lot of energy, the fact that it flies is a trait of the particular summon. The basic fairy summon that Dex used has the "can fly" and "subconsciously controlled" traits, Susan's fairies has those two, plus "gives feedback" and "can be manually controlled", Nanase's fairy dolls are all those plus "persistent entity" "full control" "has abilities", "can link to others" and a bunch of others.

Hey, Rainbow Sun Francks has seen some pretty good success after his humble beginnings as a VJ on Much Music, also his name is Plains Cree First Nations, nothing hippie about that.
  23. Story Wednesday October 12, 2016

I believe this supports my belief that the summon spell is just one spell, but what you can summon is determined by a number of variables person to person, the fairy is common because it's the least complex before added all the bells and whistles, seriously, Nanase's fairy avatar is really a summon: fairy on spice from Dune.

Oddly enough, the oaks in my area didn't go to seed this year, not one acorn has fallen and normally by now the parking lot at work would be covered, the past 2 years were really bad with the number of acorns that fell though. People say that no acorns this year means we'll have a mild winter.
  25. NP, Wednesday October 5, 2016

That event could be comparable to Susan's angst over the origin of the hammers though, Greg would have been an emotional wreck after getting dumped.
