  1. Story Wednesday June 14, 2017

While technically possible, I think it would be too big evolution step ... meanwhile, with much easier source of magic genes ... (It might actually be more likely for some virus to do horizontal gene transfer than for magic genes appearing as mutation independently on fairies.) That makes it her problem. All others as authoritative on magical heredity as Noriko, accepted Tedd's apparent lack of magical ability. With "it's just possible". No talk about specific possibility of strong genes cancelling each other. Which suggests that the base for their conviction wasn't research but anecdotal evidence, just as Noriko's.
  2. NP Friday June 16, 2017

The hardware limits on the TF gun could be why Tedd shifted over to working with Earth-type magic instead of Uryouom energy. Tedd shifted to Earth-type magic because Uryuom energy based device can't transform clothes. He overcome that limitation without problems. The limits for resize seem to hold AND I really think that what Adrian said, despite not mentioning any specific limit, is confirming my theory that the limits are not based on device but on method of shrinking.
  3. Story Wednesday June 14, 2017

Noriko did. Those "extra" bits inside the chromosome are usually called genes.
  4. Story Wednesday June 14, 2017

Mutation and combination are usually considered separate effects. Seers being rarity may be maintained by them needing exact combination of genes. Which has hardly anything to do with waveforms. Also note that species with different number of chromosomes are not compatible for reproduction, so unless magic is involved (or Uryuom power, which has it covered), Tedd still has 46 chromosomes. (Meanwhile, squirrels have 80, so who knows how many Grace has. Vampire bats have 28, owls 26, what else was Vlad combined with?)
  5. Story, Friday June 16, 2017

I'm glad you agree with first half, but would like to note the second: "deliberately". She's using it as way to emphasize what she's saying, similarly to how people use gesticulations. On the other hand, some people use gesticulation almost without meaning to, so ... Teenager showing emotional vulnerability doesn't seem typical. It wouldn't surprise me if she would grow a little to show determination to "do it" as a reaction to Sarah's "you can do it", though. Or, to put it in other way: All fans are now waiting for the big reveal: what exactly is Adrian Raven and Susan relationship? How many generations divides them and is it through Mr. Pompom or Mrs. Pompoms?

I think a lot of this has to do with Dan's treatment of the tea in pinups, the more you drink, the greater the effect. Yeah those are non-canon and most likely exaggerations, but that hasn't stopped people from thinking it can be applied to canon. It's non-cannon, yes ... but more importantly, it's different beverage and different effect. Similarly, Ellen's FV5 is fixed, but with the FV5 sunscreen the effect vary with amount. Yeah, I think there is a hard limit to how small someone can be shrunk or grown, though I would expect that if the shrink soda alone didn't get Amanda to 1/7th size, Rhoda's enchantment on it probably could have finished the job. There are two, actually. One is for TF-gun, one is for Rhoda and shrink soda. It's possible you can make person even smaller, BUT it would then (need to) be spicy magic, while Rhoda's is sweet and TF-gun may still follow square-cube law. And yes, if the shrink soda wouldn't be enough, Rhoda can finish the job. She can also speed it up.
  7. Story Wednesday June 14, 2017

Mutations tend to be random - what I meant is that someone may have magic power even without magic genes (which are, IMHO, all from fairies). I think royalty used to have strong magic on this world too, before someone took opportunity after some magic reset and started the whole "magic is bad". Based on Jerry being able to give Sarah non-affinity spell, I think it depends on strength of affinity and it's not absolute, more like the stronger the affinity the harder is to avoid it. I think that in normal cases, affinity is giving you power to use it. She probably knew about Catalina's affinity a for a while before the events of Marker and Escape, her "the universe is taunting me" sounds like Pandora had refused to mark Catalina before just out of principle because of Pandora's dislike of Name Based Affinities, but now that she's lacking in decent marking options, suddenly here's Catalina again, and so Pandora grudgingly gave in and marked her. Yes. In fact, based on how she reacted on Catalina she knew about it before looking at her. Compare to her reaction to Kitty, where she noticed the affinity first and only afterwards realized it's name-based. I don't think that because your parent or other relative is a mage or wizard, that you're guaranteed to follow as one. It was said that being a wizard is a distinction you are born with, so that sounds like it could be a genetic thing, maybe it follows the same dominant/recessive rules that other traits follow. Noriko and Edward are wizards and they assumed that Tedd would be as well, but apparently both had a recessive gene or mutation which caused Tedd to be born a Seer instead. Nanase might have ended up getting the mage recessive genes from her parents, or maybe Mama or Papa Kitsune had mage as the dominant gene that got passed to Nanase. Even genes you have may not activate. While your example is incorrect - seer seem to be kind of wizard, despite not being able to learn spells - and "mage" is something completely unknown in EGS, Nanase might be not wizard because the combination of genes she had didn't expressed that affinity. However, I think her children will have good chance to be wizards. Agree, it seems to work the same way. No. Based on Noriko's knowledge of family history, that "out of alignment" stuff don't happen. I think that what happened with Tedd was that his gene combination made him seer, which suppressed any wizard abilities he would have if the genes would be just little different.
  8. Story, Friday June 16, 2017

I guess you didn't get the Cartoon Network back in the 1990s. The first two series were done (horribly) by DIC, (Negaverse and the Tenth Planet) but someone else did three and four (Witches 5 and the Dead Moon Circus) for the Cartoon Network. The fifth series Sailor Moon series hasn't been dubbed as far as I know. Why not? 1) I was talking about The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. 2) I still don't have Cartoon Network. It's only available in US. Like a fetus, except completely differently? Actually I would expect those few weeks are for the basic mental development of new personality, but growth of body may not be involved in it at all. I think she was matching her look to her mood deliberately instead of her look affecting her personality. But question is: can every immortal do that or does the immortal need to be old to look young? Well she HAS best of luck, as apparently they didn't meet before, are now on their half of universe and not return for three more weeks, and they may not be so talkative without Ashley around anyway. Tara? No. Andrea? Yes. She seem to have books about Immortals from EGS side of universe, which were possibly written BEFORE Immortals decided to forget. And if the communication would be more commonplace, they would know about DGB (and DGB would know about them). Your "decade" might be too optimistic - it's possible this was first contact after several CENTURIES, although the contact might've been more common before that (or around year 1). It may also be where the battle will be lost - at least for Pandora. I mean, I hope Sarah won't overdo it and don't make Pandora so good she will abandon the idea of shredding Voltaire.
  9. NP Friday June 16, 2017

Well, we know Rhoda's spell has side effects when used on food. Is that really "side" effect? It may be normal expected thing which will be supposed happen when you eat anything resized. Like, it's either that or the resized stuff being dangerous toxin, and we know transformations in EGS is ridiculously safe. However, the effect of shrink soda doesn't seem to depend on amount AND works even by contact, doesn't need to be digested ... therefore, I would assume it already shrinks as much as it can and neither the bigger amount nor the additional resizing by the "side" effect of Rhoda's spell will result in any additional shrinking. Also note that Amanda seem to end up being similar size as Catalina was after application of shrink soda. (And finally ... what IS shrink soda actually made from? Could it be normal soda shrunk by Rhoda? Wait ... that would have gigantic amount of calories ...) Again, while the effects may be cumulative when NOT at maximum, the limits are not cumulative and Amanda shrunk to minimal size possible with shrink soda will be so shrunk Rhoda wouldn't be able to shrink her more. Unlikely.
  10. Story, Friday June 16, 2017

Actually, that was the original ending to Sailor Moon. There wasn't anything planned after the first series. All the Sailor Senshi (I will not call them "scouts") went back to the way they were, as if it had never happened. Kind of a Wizard of Oz ending. It's a logical way for a fantastic story to end if you really want to end for good. Of course, neither Sailor Moon nor the Oz books ended with the first. I read quite a few Oz books soon after I learned to read, and I didn't read all of them. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (that's the name of original novel) ended with "it was a dream", actually. But magic reset won't accomplish story reset here. Actually, there is no story reset possible in GOOD story, but specifically here, we can't claim true reset unless ELLEN WILL DISAPPEAR - and magic reset can't do that. Also, Grace will be completely unaffected by magic reset. I didn't. Those !@#$ lazy translators didn't bothered with any except the first. But yes, I'm aware it was much longer ... I don't see Pandora resetting herself because of this, at least until she's sure her family is safe enough and that magic won't reset. What I mean when I say I suspect this arc will end with Pandora resetting is that Pandora will do something to save her family that she knows breaks the rules, probably in the final confrontation with Sirleck and/or Voltaire. It's also possible and consistent with the setup that Pandora and Voltaire will destroy each other, but I hope Pandora will be reborn, preferably as a small child or even an infant. Pandora being reset, yes, that would be possible. Note that 1) I don't think you can destroy immortal in any more permanent way than reseting him 2) We didn't saw if Jerry, Helena or Demetrius were infants, but I doubt it - or it didn't last long. They actually didn't even seem as children - PANDORA is currently looking younger than them.
  11. Story, Friday June 16, 2017

Quite the contrary: if he would plan to end the comic, he wouldn't need reset. But the main problem with this is that if you look at the plot threads, the reset (and Tedd being seer) is something which was being prepared for LONG time. I mean, sure, the hints MIGHT've been originally prepared for something else, but I think it goes together too well. That's why I don't even think the reset is his way to "fix" some mistakes he did earlier.
  12. NP Friday June 16, 2017

Why? Amanda already had shrinking soda with better abilities ...
  13. Story Wednesday June 14, 2017

Everyone could have some sort of affinity, but based on how difficult it was for Jerry to detect Sarah's, maybe there's a factor in how strong the Fairy connection is that determines how likely a person's affinity would manifest, like someone who's ancestry has had 3-4 points where someone in the family hooked up with another magic user vs someone who's family maybe only had the one Elf who's descendants only married muggles. It's going to be statistical thing, like there will be exceptions on both sides, but yes I would assume that on average, the strength of your affinity will depend on how many fairy "blood" (genes) you have. (It doesn't need to be magic user ; marrying person who never awakened but his parents were strong magic users will be better than marrying weak magic user like Sarah.)
  14. NP Friday June 16, 2017

I don't. Well, maybe "soon" in terms of comic time, but I don't think it will appear before the battle with Vampires on Friday. ... maaaaaybe. It's probably physical limit. Remember how Adrian was categorizing how much growing spell is breaking physical laws? I think that when you want to go over the 1/2 limit, you need to break additional law. Actually, her current limits are still not as OP as Ant-mans. (How she shrunk Catalina was her limit.)
  15. Story, Friday June 16, 2017

... are we better than twitter and tumblr? Dan must be aware that we already speculated this out ... But yes: it makes complete sense that Pandora doesn't want to tell Sarah. Also, Sister 3 being the longest chapter ever confirmed. Will we even get any other chapter? YES.
  16. Story Wednesday June 14, 2017

Don't be so sure. Before he started his fantasy series, Martin created a universe of superheroes starting with Wild Cards Hey, do you see Elliot finding any other career besides being a superhero? Secret agent, obviously. He only needs to learn the "secret" bit, but he would need that as superhero as well, so ... (Also, looking at agent Wolf, you don't need to be THAT good at secrecy.) And there is always the job Susan saw for him: misguided henchman for charismatic supervillain. Of course, she has dibs and can summon magic swords, so the supervillain will likely be HER. I can totally see main eight going underground and Susan being the one convincing Elliot they need to.
  17. Story Wednesday June 14, 2017

Personally I'm hoping Dan is prepared better than JRR Tolkien or Pratchett. It would be pity if EGS story wouldn't get finished for so shallow reasons as Dan's eventual death of old age. GRR Martin plans to survive by absorbing emotions of readers, that's already obvious, but doesn't seem Dan is going the same route.
  18. Story Wednesday June 14, 2017

Raven said just "it's magic". However, Tedd did mentioned how psychic illusions don't work through mirrors. So, yes, the spell Adrian used was likely little more complicated ... You mean we didn't SEE her around Susan and Diane right? Except she can go invisible - and usually IS invisible. I already mentioned I expect she did background check on all friends of her grand-godson just like Edward did, just with different methods. Well the twist does seem to be little over-hyped at this point ... Considering two of my great-grandmothers are known to be out-of-wedlock, does that mean the chance for me is bigger or smaller? I would expect that MORE cheating was involved, just it was him doing it. I don't think that's true (unless everyone is descended from immortals), because as far as we know, almost everyone has some magic potential. E.g., I don't think Justin or Dex or Catalina have any particular inherited magic ability. Sorry. That's right, it's all magic AFFINITIES which are from Fairy ancestors. So, Nanase, Tedd, Susan, Diane, Sarah, but probably not Justin, Dex or Catalina. That said, it is quite possible everyone has some immortal ancestor. We don't know about her having any particular affinity but we also don't know about her NOT having one. And even if it's not affinity, I would assume that all hereditary magic is from Fairy ancestors. It's possible that someone just has higher magic potential by random, but Nanase's hereditary and very reliable AND Tedd, who is seer, is her cousin and is seer because of his bloodlines. Quite likely she has at least part of that. As I already commented, I don't see Raven as someone like that NOW (or as recently as Susan was born). But Pandora may refer to much earlier incident. Tomorrow? I'm sure Dan is leaving that AT LEAST for Monday. Friday must end on cliffhanger, doesn't it? It WOULD be more interesting then the standard "husband cheats because he is a horndog story." It still would NOT excuse his behavior, but thinking he had been betrayed would be easier to sympathize with at least. It wouldn't solve the "twin" problem, however. Also, wouldn't Edward mentioned if that was the case? He seem to imply Susan's father was Mrs. Pompoms husband. If she fooled records, she could fooled Mr. Pompoms as well.
  19. Story Wednesday June 7, 2017

I like the large friendly letters reading "DON'T PANIC"... I though that's different book.
  20. Story Wednesday June 14, 2017

Von Braun was hiding. Nanase's family might not. They still needed to leave. Although according to official history none of those worked. Also, they grow out. I mean, the hair will grow with natural color. Susan's change is permanent. We'll see what will be Diane's hair color after awakening (Ok, the reason Susan's hair changed was probably because she hated being blond, but we can't completely rule out that changing hair color during awakening is NORMAL for Raven's relatives. Maybe one of her ancestors changed color to blond in HER awakening.) There was nothing magical about that mirror. Raven cast spell on Grace which changed her appearance to anyone looking at her except Raven and her, and the exception didn't worked through mirror.
  21. Story Wednesday June 14, 2017

Sure. That doesn't mean they were deliberately searching for best other bloodlines to combine with. Although anyone marrying someone completely without magic likely wouldn't get much approval from parents. Nah ... Mama Kitsune never expected Nanase to be housewife. She just didn't wanted to explain what she actually expect she will be doing. Personally, I think it was because she didn't exactly like this part of tradition, but first, SHE won't be breaking tradition, and second, the fate will ensure it will happen anyway. Mama Kitsune didn't agree with what Noriko did, despite Noriko continuing with monster hunting. So, she likely wanted some other part of tradition preserved, like the family values perhaps? Or wait: what if Mrs. Kitsune hates Noriko because with Noriko disappearing into Europe without leaving suitable heir, she was forced to prepare her precious Nanase to monster hunting? She don't like that but tradition is too important for her ... ... I'm really looking forward for finding out more about what happened between those two. Not all Genghis Khan's male descendants have this chromosome. Son of (any of) his daughter(s), for example, wouldn't have it. So, the actual number of living descendants of Genghis Khan is much bigger (and much harder to compute). Also, you know ... he doesn't need to best it alone. While I estimated Adrian's age to 600, it was just guess. Maybe he's 800 years old and Genghis Khan is his grandson. If Noriko was all about magic and Kitsune wasn't, then Nanase might've been tested later. I can imagine Noriko testing Nanase AFTER testing Tedd (of course with Mrs. Kitsune approval, but reluctant approval), then returning to Tedd and testing him again ... Because Adrian promised he leaves her alone? Or, as I said: She doesn't like it, but she's aware it will happen anyway. Fate, flair for drama etc. She tries to postpone it and tries to force importance of other values into Nanase, but at the same time makes sure when it happens Nanase will have big chance to survive. When she realized Nanase awakened (probably not so long after returning from France), her reaction likely was "Sigh. So soon." .... maybe even "Adrian was right." as it would totally make sense for Adrian to tell her that with Nanase's magic potential there is no way she won't get magic.
  22. Story Wednesday June 14, 2017

That is true, my point was that based on what Noriko had said, it would seem like those in their family who are born with strong magic are encouraged to find mates who are also of strong magic to ensure that the next generation would be able to carry on the family business. So yeah, while Nanase's Great Great Grandmother might already be a legendary monster hunter, if she encountered Adrian, even if all she knew of him was that he was a wizard, she might have considered him worthy to father a child with her. Actually, her comments suggest to me more that they didn't even put lot of effort into it - BUT it was probably happening anyway because due to their job they tended to only meet people with strong magic, so ... BTW, remember this page? Maybe Ellen should check with Edward - just because it's not part of official history on this Earth doesn't mean Uryuoms didn't actually fought in the American revolutionary war ...
  23. Story Wednesday June 14, 2017

That I don't buy. To father enough children to have that many descendants Adrian would have to have been a polygynous monarch like Genghis Khan or King Ibrahim of Morocco, or to have had the ability multiply himself 100 times for 100 women at a time like Krishna. Or both. He had two children, each of then had two children in age of 20 (which is actually pessimistic for middle age) ... and it happened 600 years ago, so 30 generations, so 2^30 = over billion descendants. It will actually be less because some of those would marry with other descendants, but this simple calculation will tell you it IS possible. Ever thought that Helena and Demetrius could have followed Nanase and/or Susan from Moperville? It could be another thing forgotten by their reset. It still happened elsewhere If you're talking about the Titania in the Sailor Moon fanfic I posted over a decade ago, the timing is wrong. (Haruka's oldest daughter.) I don't think Shakespeare wrote Sailor Moon fanfic. Yes. Since Adrian and all other half-immortals have one parent with natural transformation abilities, I don't think it would be unexpected for some or all of them to have transformation abilities. It hasn't been proven or disproven. Adrian is the only half-Immortal we've been shown in the series, and now even his own beliefs of what's possible for himself and others of his kind has just been proven imperfect. Of course that's also possible. But regarding what is proven, we don't know if the way Pandora shapeshifts is normal for immortals or it's just due to her age. It's possible younger immortals shapeshifting is more limited. They also speak fluent French, and in the late 1800's there were a number of Japanese moving to France for periods of time, IF Adrian was living in France while Nanase's Great Great Grandmother was living there and if she was also a legendary monster hunter. Maybe they had an encounter? Note that IF she already was a legendary monster hunter it would likely means another immortal was already between her ancestors. At least I suspect that being "legendary monster hunter" requires magical abilities. But yes, I think they got to America through France. Would explain why Noriko went to France (or is said to). They (I mean the family, obviously Noriko and Mrs. Kitsune were not born yet) left Japan in 1945 or maybe early 1946 as parts of demilitarization of Japan. Japan was not allowed to keep magic users with this level of power, as written in secret amendment of Potsdam Declaration.
  24. NP Wednesday June 14, 2017

Not feeling pain? Wait, that was the other guy wasn't it? (Although it seems Deadpool's pain threshold isn't normal either). ... ability to not get censored?
  25. Story Wednesday June 14, 2017

I don't see Adrian breaking up with a woman for having children with another man NOW. But as you said, Adrian has been around for a long time. His regret about causing Noriko abandon family is causing him to treat Grace differently ; maybe he break up with a woman in past, later regret it and changed behaviour leading to him now caring about Noah? You think small. Maybe number of Adrian descendants is over 10% in most of Europe and U.S., meaning Moperville having few dozens means we still didn't noticed few more thousands? It actually DID happened everywhere to Nanase and Susan. I think the only thing exceptional about Moperville is the percentage of the people who have stumbled across Adrian Raven and learnt magic from him. Note the high probability that ALL magic users have Fairy ancestors. Specifically, that this was exactly what Heka said to Pandora before her "WHAT?". So, unless the royal heritage is Nanase specifically being descended from Titania ... Because they are not as wise as they think? If she plans to ask Sarah to do it, she could've said the name already. I think she DO plans to talk to him AND in fact plans to tell him the bad news (because better now than later) BUT she's not looking forward to it. She is NOW. Magic is perfectly natural. I was already wondering about it, but note that while this arc has LOT of parts, it's not having so many PAGES. Yet. It can be both. Remember the cover. Grace's morphing abilities are inborn. I think Adrian learnt transformation as a spell, so it's more like morphing ability like Elliot.
