  1. Story Comic for 2016 April 25th

My point was that European leaders didn't PLANNED to kill off natives with diseases. Sure when they did, they took that opportunity, even tried to spread the diseases more ... ... but mostly, how catastrophic effect diseases have on natives were as big surprise for them as for the natives, and the first, most catastrophic epidemics were started BEFORE Europeans realized what's happening. Indeed, that article CritterKeeper linked mentions that at few places, European settlers STOPPED because the resistance was too high ... then next wave was surprised the resistance got much smaller. The part about pigs is also interesting. I suspect that even what we perceives as normal flu could have catastrophic effect on people thousands years ago. And if we go to more distant past ... the bacteria which lives in our digestive tract and are generally perceived as good could destroy whole ecosystems. Luckily, time travel to point before discovery of time travel seem to be impossible. As proved by general lack of crowds of time travellers at historic points. Seriously, what is easier to believe - that in future, people will be able to use technology responsively and stop the ones who don't want to, or that time travel is impossible? Computer viruses are luckily too dependent on their host. Most current computer viruses will be unable to spread on system with just DOS, and the few which would will run too slow. And the truly dangerous computer viruses, ones who are actually capable to adapt themselves and evolve ... well, not even today's computers have enough power for them.

Thats the truth we are NOW seeing clearly. Anyone who would try to explain stuff like this in 15th or 16th century will be burned at the stake. Not speaking about the fact that without travelling all around the world and observing many different biotopes, not even Darwin would get idea so revolutionary. They likely thanked God that the diseases are much more deadly between natives ... or, well, took it as confirmation they are the Chosen ones. As I said, they didn't know enough about diseases to actually rely on them. Yup ; the CONVICTION was what they needed, actual superiority was secondary.

You think it's fair for Adrian Raven? Although he can at least defend better. I'm sure there are rules against them harming each other DIRECTLY. I'm also sure Pandora is MUCH better at finding loopholes than Voltaire. So, if she stops her rage and decides to take revenge on him properly he will lose. Now, WILL she be able to contain her rage? ... well, if he's not near, then likely yes. Yeah, his plan is destined to fail mainly because I don't think Dan would kill off a main character. The riots that ensue would rival those of hockey fans after their team either wins or loses the Stanley Cup. Killing Elliot might NOT be part of his plan anymore. Killing Elliot was the SIMPLE way. Regarding Dan killing someone ... Dan didn't even wanted to kill DAMIEN. This comics is extremely low on deaths. I don't think he would kill Adrian Raven. I'm sure Mr. Raven can resist the possession attempt and is likely stronger than Sirleck. Of course, there is a possibility Sirleck can take him when weakened or something ... but it will be still extremely stupid of him to try, as mentioned. Note that considering Helena and Demetrius reset very recently, Adrian would certainly be their kid from BEFORE the reset, which could limit his usefulness as distraction ...

NTSC uses 483 visible and 525 total scan lines. PAL uses 576 visible and 625 total scan lines. Pixes? On cathode ray tube based TV? Those are ANALOG standards, the line was simply from left to right. But ok, later 704 visible, 720 total pixels was used for both, meaning the screen shape is different. Still, aren't most DVD's wide-screen anyway? The signal over HDMI cable will be HDMI. If the television is not able to understand ANY valid HDMI signal, then it's not compatible with HDMI.
  5. Story Comic for 2016 April 25th

Considering decimating means killing 10% I'm not surprised it was worse in some cases. Also, somehow I don't think European leaders RELIED on this bacteriology warfare: if they wouldn't be convinced they will be able to win direct battle anytime they need to, I don't think they would risk it. And gunpowder was certainly big part of this. Still, again, no big progress at the correct time, was it? Anyway, the diseases are unlikely to be deciding factor for WHEN the conquest started, unless some recent discovery made either spreading them or limiting their danger to own population easier ... which I don't think happened around that time.

Yes. He is supposed to vaguely remind you William Shatner ... and few other celebrities. The important part is "vaguely".
  7. STORY: Wednesday April 27, 2016

The player is NOT made for DVB-T. It MIGHT also have a DVB-T tuner (that's the name for device for receiving DVB-T) but only if it's recorder and it can record from DVB-T. The output of the player is NOT DVB-T. It's HDMI. (Or RGB on SCART). Also, DVB-T is not file format. In analog mode, you MIGHT have problem with output being 25fps (but you likely wouldn't, devices that stupid would be very old now). In digital mode, this is not issue: HDMI is capable of 60fps, if the TV supports it, it MUST be able to understand more than one fps rate. (Note: personally, I would look at model of your TV and model of the player you plan to buy and check Internet for possible problems, just to be sure. But you need to know what to look for ; asking about DVB-T and ATSC is unlikely to get you anywhere, as neither has anything to do with playing DVDs. The fps might be worth searching for. NTSC had 30fps and 29.97 fps may still be used, also for some reason 23.976 ; PAL had 25fps. Also, you should definitely check what connectors your TV has.) EDIT: Checked few DVDs. All are certainly European, but one had 29.97 fps anyway. I suspect European devices supports both. Of course, I can't confirm if US ones do as well.
  8. I'm aware that the pin-ups are first posted to Patreon and available only for paying people, and only later made available for everyone. I just though that they will be made available for everyone on Patreon and on the tumblr at same time. But actually, the tumblr ends with JANUARY's pin-ups. The (end of) March batch didn't got there yet.
  9. STORY: Wednesday April 27, 2016

Found it. The digital format that replaced PAL is DVB-T. The difference between DVB-T and ATSC on one side and NTSC and PAL on other is that the antennae cable is only one you will find DVB-T and presumably ATSC in. Analog video recorders and players actually encoded it's output into antennae cable, although even them had alternatives like SCART and composite. Digital devices like modern DVD players and set-top boxes don't bother: their output is usually available either in analog way on SCART, or digitally on HDMI (there are also other, less common options). To conclude: you don't need to wonder if the DVD recorder is capable of NTSC and/or ATSC output. I'm not entirely sure about SCART, but the HDMI standard is independent on where the original signal was obtained from: if both DVD recorder and the TV know HDMI, they will be able to communicate.
  10. Story Comic for 2016 April 25th

Both reasons could be involved but the technology trumps the politics. Constantinople could have fallen as many times as it wanted, without improving ship designs, mapmaking and astronomical knowledge the trade expansions would not have followed. Thor Heyerdahl made some amazing journeys using only very old technology. But there is a very large step between 'possible' and 'practical.' I cannot see colonisation and the conquest of the new world starting from Europe based only on triremes or canoes. The technology definitely helped, but I wasn't able to find any specific technology at the correct time. I mean, sextant was first implemented in 1730, that's too late. Astrolabe was first used in 1295, that's too soon ... but might not been actually used on sea before 1551, that's too late ... Obviously, Leif Erikson didn't had the same technology as Columbus and his method of getting to America was less practical, but the technology "window" for start of traveling might easily been hundred years, with political reasons behind the exact date. Also, regarding the conquest part, cannons appeared in Europe in 13th century. Hmmm ... ruling classes ... is this the reason slavery was more problem in US, with voted president, instead of Europe full of monarchies? Or is it more because slaves were much more heavily used in US, mainly for production of stuff which Europe was buying from them? I wouldn't be so sure about birds motivation ...

Yeah, but I think it's likely she already has, she's had 2 previous opportunities to do so, the first being when she was told she was adopted, and the second when she got that message from Susan. Good point. Realizing she has a sister would be good time to ask parents for confirmation. Wouldn't it depend on what Satan would DO? I mean, if he would just visit some law company for help with some detail regarding contracts ... or visit some concert ...

Speaking about deception ... if Susan would see Diane WITHOUT any warning, what do you think she will say? Susan: "Hello Grace" Diane: "I'm not Grace" Susan: (with Hammer) "Tedd?" ... seriously. She KNOWS backups of her form exists and SAW how they look (on Nanase). When seeing Diane, she would first suspect her form was used. She can still ask NOW. She has phone, don't she?
  13. BTW, the newest post at EGS pinups tumblr is still "Mild mannered to Heidi". Did Dan forgot he had that tumblr?
  14. Story Comic for Tuesday, May 3, 2016

... good catch. If there IS a security clearance ABOVE head of paranormal division of FBI, it is accident waiting to happen. People who decide how should Earth deal with representatives from other star systems shouldn't be kept in dark about anything. Remember the deathless army of rage? It would be pity if someone like that destroyed Earth because something was kept hidden from Mr. Verres, wouldn't it? Remember that even TEDD is already at point where it will be dangerous to feed him misinformation. If Susan is adopted, Edward wouldn't likely have to search for anything, he'd have already known from the first background check, and opted to not say anything likely because he felt the same way Ellen and Nanase did, that it wasn't his business to say anything. Of course he could have assumed Susan knew and let it go, in which case I would imagine when Nanase asks him about it, he'd probably be like "She didn't tell you?" Saying anything based on informations he get from FBI would be not only bad manners but also unprofessional. He might still refuse to say anything ... until the high number of vampires will be brought into his attention. Then it's obvious that keeping Diane and Susan apart just so Susan can enjoy the illusion of not being adopted is dangerous. I would ask who and how made sure that Susan and Diane don't go to same school. Because going to same school would make impossible to keep the secret, and the probability of that happening was 50% ... it can happen if noone cared, but it's too big risk to leave it on chance if someone didn't wanted it to happen. ... which brings question: does Diane's mom know about Susan?
  15. STORY: Wednesday April 27, 2016

ehahe I've been wondering about compatibility issues regarding buying DVDs from UK/Europe--do you need only a DVD player with the correct region encoding, or do you also need a TV set that can display PAL or whatever digital format has replaced it? As far as I know, my own TV can only display ATSC/NTSC . . . Legally, you are not supposed to buy DVD from other regions at all. Technically, you should ignore DVD players, buy a computer DVD drive, rip the DVD, convert to MPEG4 and watch where you want.
  16. Story Comic for 2016 April 25th

I meant based on when "Western culture" (meaning: people in US) started solving it. But you're right, gender identity was issue long before people started taking it as one. Hmmmm ... civilization started near the point where "black" and "white" people meet. But yes, the idea that enslaving people of "correct" (white) color is not normal appeared only later, before that any other nation was fair game. Informal doesn't mean nonsense, although I see that the term "breed" is now preferred term - oh. You mean the concept of dividing humans to races based on skin color. Well, before the "improved travel technologies" (was it really technology? Didn't the travel expanded for political reasons, like fall of Constantinople?) it might had some relevancy, although not nearly as big as it was claimed to ... interesting how the race started to be issue only when it's relevancy started to decline ... ... and by "interesting" I mean "suspicious". Basically, the concept of race was used as an explanation that then existing cultural lines are fixed and there is no point trying to make those other people part of our culture. And the fact that you can't extend culture as fast as the conquest was happening was taken as confirmation. Now, after several centuries, it is apparent that "other races" can became part of our culture if we let them (and if they want to).

You're not the only one. And considering Ted has various girl forms like these forms.... And at least one non-Ted form..... There's a chance that it 'could' be Ted. He might of lost a bet with Dan or something..... Well, technically it can be ANYONE. But yes, Tedd seems most likely. I don't think Grace or Elliot would try look like this.
  18. NP, Wednesday May 4th, 2016

Well, it involves a masked man, an evasive security guard, and a package addressed to the mayor of Moperville. Apparently. We might get more information about the case from comments than from the strips. That can work. Yeah, specifically this version of Voltaire. Agree. Or ... ... Voltaire with Richard's hairs.
  19. Story Comic for Tuesday, May 3, 2016

Well, effectively, either route is potentially going behind someone's back. Either go behind Susan and ask her mother, or go behind her mother and ask Susan. ... except if you put it this way, I think Susan is more scary. Although ...
  20. Story Comic for Tuesday, May 3, 2016

Compared to telling her they need to talk with her mother about how she can be adopted? Frankly, I see both options as problematic, but don't see any other - unless Edward will come with something. ... just realized ... we don't even know what ethnicity they are. Do they match Diane, Rhea or neither?
  21. Story Comic for 2016 April 25th

I don't know much about the linguistic proofs of age of gender identity issue, but I got feeling that the current exploration of the topic in western culture is not only high time to happen, but also deeper (more detailed) than previous attempts. Meaning, we are in need of names for something which was not considered separate issue until this century. But I may be wrong. I hoped that keeping the analogy would help explaining my point. I guess it didn't. I really hope it will, but I wouldn't go as far as to expect it. The issue of race is older and didn't seem to be settling down yet.
  22. Story Comic for Tuesday, May 3, 2016

Good, the "Susan may totally know about being adopted and just didn't bothered to tell them" point is being mentioned. Yeah, she might be upset, at least until she learns more about Susan's past and all the trauma therein. Susan got to grow up in wealth, while Diane got to grow up with a more complete and loving family. I wouldn't expect teenager to see it this way. At least not right away. Also, how much do we really know about Diane's parents? ... how long do you think they need for that confrontation? Just checking that Susan is in the store and then heading to her house would suffice.
  23. STORY: Wednesday April 27, 2016

It used to have one, but Krypton exploded. Wasn't Krypton orbiting Gilese 581? Oh wait, that planet didn't exploded. It's an alternate universe from ours. As proved by the coexistence of Uryuom and magic users. I'm sure if you type "Moperville superheroes" into google in THAT universe, top answer will be video. This universe? Moperville returns shiveapedia (our wiki) and Naperville stuff like this.
  24. Story Comic for 2016 April 25th

It was meant to be colorful language. Again, it's kinda a weird pick to nit. Even if I said yes, I could also say we're still finding them. If we were to go by the original story, the box was empty of everything but hope once the evils were unleashed. The part I'm nitpicking is that there is some finite list of stuff we need to find, analyze and then adapt the language to it. To show it on original story, Pandora's box was supposed to contain plagues and diseases ; but for example H5N1 didn't exist before 1959, so there was no way it could've been included there. The language is trying to adapt to moving target. I'm sorry if I'm only one seeing that meaning in what you said. It looked worth nitpicking to me.
  25. ... I think the reverse sequence would make more sense. Of course, reverse sequence would show the "point" first, so ... I though it's obviously Foxy. ... ok, something being obvious doesn't mean it's true Agree, the color scheme of those two forms from Sarah's game is better.
