  1. Loudmouth's Journey Inside

Glad to be of help. I like to contribute to the health and happiness of felines and their (and my) friends and I hope this will help some! ETA: Ordered! Should hopefully arrive on the 10th.
  2. Story, Monday October 2, 2017

Manly Guys Doing Manly Things shows a good example of the cases where it does not work quite as well.
  3. Loudmouth's Journey Inside

Put it on your Amazon wish list and tell me when it is there, and I'll see what I can do. I'll be glad to help with the kitties! (Though if you ask me, pro-biotics are a complete scam. I've tried them and they don't work. They won't let me make Singularities or Shockwaves or Warps, or for that matter, even the slightest hint of something really simple like a Pull.)

Well, that is the default scenario with a solid block of steel. But strangely enough, that is not the case with a number of bullets. They fragment or deform as they hit and so spread the damage caused by kinetic energy instead of merely passing through and leaving a hole. And that hurts a lot more.
  5. Things That Make You Happy

Well, my order was a Kickstarter order, so I guess he will be getting around to it in the next few weeks.

I am still very fond of the man. He may not have achieved top tier fame but he is so very good at what he does. Mind you, at times I wonder at the poor man's luck. He once played the part of an evil AI in a very bad hacker movie called 'Game Over.' For some reason the producers of this execrable disaster thought it was a good idea to have Koenig's voice dubbed over with that of an electronically distorted manic ten-year-old with no acting talent whatsoever. It is enough to make me cry. The one good actor they had and they had to remove his own voice from his acting.
  10. Things That Make You Happy

Good! Me, I ordered a pile of books with doodles in them. 3, 4, 5 and 6. I still haven't heard from him but I expect he still has a huge pile to deal with.

I am no longer sure that it even makes sense in our world anymore. I just passed a crowd of teen partygoers not long ago and the best way I can describe the impression of colours their hair gave is 'cacophonic'. It would seem that if you dye your hair in sufficiently loud colours, the effect is all but deafening.

The Moderator: As I understand it -- and please correct me if I am wrong -- the First Amendment applies principally to government interference with freedom of speech. Which means that if President Clark enacts a law in which it is illegal to criticise the government and sets a Night Watch to ensure that those who violate this law are dealt with, the law is unconstitutional. If I personally were to run amuck with my moderator power and make it a bannable offence to use the word 'supercalifragilisticexpialidocious', it would not be an interference with free speech because the forum is private and the ones in charge set the rules -- and just as importantly, anyone rebelling against this misuse of power would be free to just go to another public forum and continue to use the banned word there. As an aside, I am somewhat distressed by the in my opinion too sharp division between liberal and conservative in issues such as gun control. I consider myself a liberal and I live in a country where guns are heavily controlled, but as far as I am concerned some gun control laws are badly thought out if not actively counterproductive. Some lawmakers do not distinguish between 'automatic' and 'semi-automatic' weapons, for example. Similarly, the current situation with the so-called 'silencers' (which do not exist, and never have existed outside of Hollywood or similar productions) is subject to much emotional overreaction considering the fact that actually 100% silencing a gun is simply not possible with today's technology. (And I have a great deal of doubt whether tomorrow's technology will solve the problem.) It would be much more accurate to describe such devices as sound mufflers given that they only reduce the noise produced and that the principal importance of them is to protect the hearing of the shooter. But I seem to have gotten off on a side track. What I meant to emphasize is that there is a middle ground in many of the liberal/conservative conflicts which grows less and less populated as both extremes train their artillery on it and attempt to turn it into a no-man's land. Over the space of just a few months on Twitter I have been called names by both sides to the sum of attaining the state of being an anarchist commie Nazi liberal faggot neocon dickless pedophilic spastic child-murdering bullying God-hating fundie Christian Jew Muslim atheist. I may have forgotten a few but I think I got most of the important ones. It would be really nice if people here wouldn't automatically assume the worst of the opposition and just occasionally look for the rare bit of common ground we may have. *sigh*

Reasoned discussion, perhaps? Or good Lord, constructive criticism? The sort of stuff that gets mentioned in the FAQ?

I wonder if that effect is caused by armies of nitpickers jumping down Dan's throat every time they see even the smallest little error in continuity they can gleefully complain about. Nah... couldn't possibly be.

*wince* I also do not like to think of how much that has to hurt.

  22. Story Wednesday October 4, 2017

When I feel annoyed and don't have a legitimate military target to vent my annoyance at, I often go for similar targets. The world is fine. I also like to blame the Danish Parliament, especially for stuff it had absolutely nothing to do with or could not have done anything about even if it had. The sinking of the Titanic? Clearly all on the Danish Parliament. The 2015 earthquake in Japan? Danish Parliament. The murder of King Canute the Holy? Again the Danish Parliament, never mind that it wasn't even established until half a dozen centuries later and the fact that that ass Canute the 'Holy' totally deserved it.
  23. Star Trek DS9 versus B5

They also passed what is a startlingly difficult litmus test. They managed to present a tremendous aura of confidence and conviction without sliding into either smug snake or smarmy territory. All too often when a book or show wishes to present this kind of villain it becomes either one, the other or both. I think it was because both possessed points of vulnerability and the writer didn't 'cheat' about them. Now Lord Refa, there was a smug snake. I loathed him. Or for that matter, the leader of the Minbari Warrior Caste. I've forgotten his name and don't care to remember it. Once a villain character slides too deep into smug snake or smarmy territory they stop being interesting to me and merely become annoying or painful to watch. I am perfectly content to have a show with despicable villains but I am less happy when the villain's scenes are a chore to watch or, worse yet, their plot points become dull due to them having too much script immunity. (I also have a definite weakness for villains who have immense self-confidence but whose schemes are almost always doomed from start and quickly go from doomed to disaster. Starscream would be a good example of this. Or in a much less villainous variant of it, C. M. O. T. Dibbler of the Discworld.)
  24. Tedd's inspiration for FV5

Or, if Tedd wished something more anatomically correct, there is any number of magazines available with photos of real women in them. Not all of these are porn and some of them even have a selection of body types in them. Another source would be library books that discuss model photography and a third would be books that teach drawing and/or painting. I would warn against anything drawn by Liefeld but thankfully the TF gun's safeties would prevent the target from being transformed into something that is anatomically incapable of surviving.

Indeed. It looks very dramatic and there is usually enough of them around to make them tempting choices, but if you need to use a missile, consider the merits of not using something that these days has been constructed so as to specifically collapse and crumble in a way to absorb kinetic energy from impact.
