I dunno. I'd be more worried about a .303 batter or maybe one who bats .357 Magnum.
  2. Story Wednesday August 17, 2016

That was the basis for my entire looney tunes idea. That DW's sunglasses kind of look like the sunglasses Grace was wearing then.
  3. Story Wednesday August 17, 2016

    Nope. These.
  4. The Grammar Thread

Okay, I am not sure how typoes rate in this, but I am reprinting this old and wonderful list of Bible typoes a friend of mine dragged out to show how easy it is to completely change the meaning of a Biblical commandment through careless copying or translation: >Precisely -- _for the most part_. Yet it is in those minute errors >that one does not readily notice that changes are most likely to >occur. > Just by way of example: - 'A man shalt not marry his grandmother's wife' - The Affinity Bible of 1923. - 'And Rebekah arose, and her camels' - Gen 24:61, The Camels Bible of 1823 (they're normally her damsels; witchcraft is suspected) - In Luke 22:34 of the Denial Bible of 1792, the apostle who denies Jesus is called Philip. - 'I discharge thee before God ... that thou observe these things' Timothy 5:21, The Discharge Bible of 1806 - 'Who hath ears to ear, let him hear' - Matthew 13:43, The Ears to Ear Bible of 1810. - 'The fool hath said in his heart that there is a God' - Psalm 14:1, The Fools Bible of the reign of Charles I. - 'Her sins which are many are forgotten' (instead of forgiven) Luke 7:47, The Forgotten Sins Bible of 1638. - A 1611 edition transposes Judas in place of Jesus in Matthew 26:36. - 'Shall I bring to the birth and not cease to bring forth' Isaiah 66:9, The Large Family Bible of 1820 (it's supposed to be cause to bring forth). - The Lions Bible of 1804 gives us (among others): 'The murderer shall surely be put together' (instead of to death) Numbers 25:18; 'But thy son shall come forth out of thy lions' 1 Kings 8:19; 'For thy flesh lusteth after the spirit' (and not against it) Galatians 5:17. - 'and there was more sea' Revelation 1641, The More Sea Bible of 1641 (there is in fact no more sea). - 'These are murderers' Jude 16, The Murderers' Bible of 1801 (they are actually murmurers, a lesser crime unless they were in the theatre). - 'Blessed are the placemakers' Matthew 5:9, The Placemakers' Bible of 1562. - 'printers have persecuted me without a cause' Psalm 119:161, The Printers' Bible (veiled critique of management or just a typo? Ordinarily the persecuters are princes). - 'sin on more' John 5:14, The 'Sin on' Bible of 1716. - 'And it shall come to pass that the fishes shall stand upon it' Ezekiel 47:10, The Standing Fishes Bible of 1806. - 'the sting of his tongue' (rather than the string) Mark 7:35, The Sting Bible of 1746. - The 'To remain' Bible of 1805 failed to remove the eponymous editor's marginal comment from the line 'persecuted him that was born after the spirit to remain, even so it is now' (Galatians 4:29), an error repeated in two later editions produced by the Bible Society in 1805 and 1819. - 'Know ye not that the unrighteous shall inherit the Kingdom of God' 1 Corinithians 6:9, The Unrighteous Bible of 1653. Moreover, Romans 6:13 has 'Neither yield ye your members as instruments of righteousness unto sin'. - An edition of 1717 calls the Parable of the Vineyard in Luke 20 the Parable of the Vinegar. - 'Thou shalt commit adultery' Exodus 20:14, The wicked (or Adulterous) Bible. The fine ruined the printer. - 'Buggre Alle this for a Larke. I ame sick to mye Hart of typefetting. Master Bilton if no Gentleman, and Master Scagges noe more than a tightfisted Southwarke Knobbefticke. I telle you, onne a day laike thif Ennywone withe half an oz. of Sense should bee oute in the Sunneshain, ane notte Stucke here alle the liuelong daie inn thif mowldey olde By-Our-Lady Workfhoppe. @*"AE@;!*' Ezekiel 48:5, The Buggre Alle this Bible of 1651, also notable for containing twenty-seven verses in the third chapter of Genesis, instead of the more usual twenty-four. They followed verse 24, which in the King James Version reads: 'So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life', and read: 25 And the Lord spake unto the Angel that guarded the eastern gate, /saying/ Where is the flaming sword which was given unto thee? 26 And the Angel said, I had it here only a moment ago, I must have put /it/ down somewhere, forget my own head next. 27 And the Lord did not ask him again. Thanks and all respect to Messrs Gaiman and Pratchett, but the rest are kosher... urm, or whatever. These are just some of the typesetting errors which got noticed, and in most cases a single word or letter changes meanings quite radically. This list provided by Luke Slater, an old friend of mine. I still think of him with gratitude.
  5. Videogame Thread

Both games are really good. The first game was a bit more combat than story, the second game reversed the proportions, but I loved both and still return to them. Speaking of returns. I just got sucked back into bloody World of Warcraft. The Burning Legion is invading to destroy the world, attempt no. #2435325435. They do not have a good track record because they have this tendency to keep backstabbing one another, and on top of that, they also keep empowering mortal minions who then backstab them and run off with the power they got. Oh, and I just heard this brilliant line from a doomsayer ingame: "THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END! ...AGAIN!"
  6. What Are You Ingesting?

Good job you didn't have his spinach. Or he might have gotten annoyed.
  7. NP Wednesday August 17, 2016

Well, they did have exploding panels in Star Wars: A New Hope, but possibly that may be forgiven as it was generally caused by the whole X-Wing or Tie Fighter exploding.
  8. Story Wednesday August 17, 2016

Bah! I finally know who he is. The sunglasses gave it away.
  9. Story Friday August 19, 2016

The sunglasses! I should have realised! Finally I know who Disco Wizard is! ADAM JENSEN FROM DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLUTION!
  10. NP Wednesday August 17, 2016

*blink* But... but... if you don't connect it to the plasma conduits, it won't dramatically explode!
  11. Story Monday August 15, 2016

The Moderator: My apologies, then. I'll see about getting that warning point taken off you. I may have to ask the admins to do that as these new forums seem a bit odd for some reason. ETA: No, it was completely painless, and the warning point should be gone now. Please tell me if there are any issues.
  12. Story Monday August 15, 2016

The Moderator: Coming as it did right on the heels of mlooney's post, it was hard to not see your post as aimed directly at him. The implication I took from it was that you called him a nutjob rather than a dumbass. Upon rereading it, I realised that you might have been referring to Pandora in the comic strip instead. If this is the case I am sorry for the misunderstanding and withdraw the warning.
  13. Story Monday August 15, 2016

The Moderator: This kind of remark is not appropriate for these forums. I do not care how it was intended, it comes across as insulting. One warning point.
  14. NP: Wednesday, August 10, 2016

Ah, thank you. So, discriminatory against the other five basic functions of arithmetics.
  15. More Speculation.

Why not? It would be a triumph!
  16. Things that make you sad.

JML, message from my wife. And me.
  17. NP: Wednesday, August 10, 2016

Well, multiplication in general is violent as it causes conflict.
  18. NP: Wednesday, August 10, 2016

Okay, okay. The other four forms of basic arithmetic, then. (Anyway, "divide and conquer" does not promote violence. It ends it. Once conquest has occurred, the war is over.)
  19. Who else thinks Magic is a d*ck?

At the very least it causes forumquakes.
  20. Unsolved Mysteries of Susan and Diane

Possibly Clark Kent. Then again, he isn't strictly speaking of genus homo sapiens.
  21. Miscellaneous Questions

I guess that means I am actually an Indo-European-Dane. Some three thousand years ago my ancestors moved here, decided they liked the place and booted out the previous occupants for war crimes. 1 1The previous population committed the crime of going to war armed with flint and stone weapons against copper and bronze. As always, this was punished very seriously.
  22. Story: Friday, Aug 12, 2016

Actually, Noah's main biological parent is the Demonic Duck.
  23. NP Friday August 12, 2016

The Moderator: No, it does not. There is no debate on these forums at all. Trans people get referred to by their self-identified gender here. Deliberately denying them their personal identity and lived experience is transphobic and hence against the forum rules. Anyone who does not respect this will first get warned and if they do not heed this eventually banned.
  24. NP Friday August 12, 2016

Sam is not a girl. Sam is a man.
  25. NP: Wednesday, August 10, 2016

I consider this discriminatory against the three other forms of basic arithmetic.
