  1. Comic for Friday, Oct 20, 2023

He could be a good supporting character, like if a table had a wobbly leg, and they used Kevin to beef it up.
  2. Comic for Friday, Oct 20, 2023

"Hey! You got your nerdidity in my magic!" "No! You got your magic in my nerdidity!" Imagine the chain of nerdy spells that Edward acquired building up to 'cast Magic Powerpoint (with InterWebs retrieval)'. He is to exposition what Wilie Wonka was to chocolate, albeit lacking Umpa Lumpas bringing him coffee. Oh, wait, Lavender . . . If the past comics are a guide, Edward learned this by practicing towards it with lesser related spells. It has been adapted into a pen-as-a-wand in the second panel. But then, did Edward make that wand? Could he have used a Magic Marker, and made his own magic marks? Kevin would be logically constrained to what Arthur know when he created Kevin and what Kevin has observed, no? He must have wizard abilities if he can teach being a wizard. Maybe Kevin is a surrogate seer; since he is derived from Arthur. IMO, he has whatever abilities the plot requires. Seriously, if the comic had a laugh track, and I was at the control, it would be on every time Kevin speaks. "Kevin, I want to practice D&D magic today. Burning Hands! Fireball!" Kevin the Scrappy Stick.
  3. NP Comic for Thursday, Oct 19, 2023

Hmm. Jonathan Harris was supposed to be a short term villain to get them lost, and then get killed off. He proved to be too popular by whatever metric they used. In truth, Jonathan Harris was a talented actor, and very supportive, per William Mumy. He played the concierge on Jose Jimenez and carried the part well. Lost in Space started out serious for a couple of episodes, then quickly got silly. Unfortunately for Jonathan, such a setting did not showcase him well. It worked for Bill Mumy and the robot, Jonathan got considerable face time, the rest of the cast became minor players. It could have been a worthwhile show, the concept and talent were there. This is typical of Irwin Allen. I could see Kevin the Flying Kindling as the star of EGS, the Musical, produced in the same spirit.
  4. NP Comic for Thursday, Oct 19, 2023 Kevin once again displays what for a human would be hubris, but for a stick is at least hubris++. "I am superior to you in every way. Tell me what is on that flat surface." "Oh, you can't see it, can you? Well, they are making rude drawings of you showing how inept you are." I think that now that he is practically a major character, Kevin needs a proper name. It should probably be Kevin Arthur, since Arthur Arthur created him and treats him as a son. I like Kevin the Kindling for its alliteration. Bonus points for expressing appropriate hostility. Does EGS meet the criteria to qualify as a stick person comic? I think it is only marginally one. I bet he's riot at parties. "The party was going great, then Tedd brought out Kevin." I suppose you could play pranks on him, though. Paint him while he's asleep. "Hey, Kevin. Guess what color you are." I think I would glue two craft eyes on him. Make him look even sillier. Then paint a top hat and give it a cardboard brim. "That's more Kevin comments than you can shake a stick at." "No, it's not." <grab> <shake> Kevin: "Hey, put me down." "OK. You are a crotchety buffoon who is full of himself. This aspect of your personality seems superfluous to your training purpose, and I am left wondering why you are like that. Are you a reflection of Arthur's own personality? If so, you are all the rough parts, aggregated; he is more understanding than you are. It is a shame you cannot experience the life your students lead, it would mellow and mature you. In a meta sense, you do not seem to add to the comic. My impression is that Tedd is a better trainer than you are. Your so called 'training' has been mostly put-downs as far as we've seen. What do you even bring to the table?" "Table? What table?" "Exactly" I think Melvin's cursed genie cat does a better job.
  5. NP Comic for Tuesday, Oct 17, 2023 Nanase and Fox have done this before. Fox won that time. The middle panel is a bit puzzling. I have not seen peoples glasses glowing when they think. Perhaps I have not observed people actually thinking. We are pretty good at faking it. Or maybe it's a different universe thing. I think I need to make LED glasses that I can light up. It will interfere with using them to see, but it will look impressive in the right situation.
  6. Comic for Wednesday, Oct 18, 2023 I'm at odds with 'everything is negotiable' - to the dark side this path leads. Within bounds though, he has a point. This normally wouldn't be one. He must have made a very convincing case.
  7. Comic for Wednesday, Oct 18, 2023

Ooo, you win 'Interesting question of the day'. Well earned.
  8. Cats, Dogs, Other pets.

I think mlooney is playing a card game, and Explorer is thinking about taking a nap there. I can totally see this happening. It makes sense in cat logic.
  9. Comic for Wednesday, Oct 18, 2023

Pretty sure that path has many forks. I agree. Edward's statement is not evil, it is chaotic. It is stating, if you expand on the basic statement, "We hold no standards, everything is negotiable." No guard rails. The next time you go to a store and see the cr@p that is being foisted on you for a profit, remember Edward's words. Will chaos lead to evil? Depends how many times you roll the dice. Roll enough, and it becomes a certainty.

Copy didn't pick up the new link, and I did not verify it, I'll fix it. Thanks for pointing it out.

Tire Business One of his few lines in the early b&w movie is, "Fire bad!".
  12. Comic for Monday, Oct 16, 2023

Yeah, you're right, good catch, they don't go to the same school; I was staring off into space during a part of an online meeting that didn't pertain to me, and I realized that Ashley went to Elliot's school, in fact met him there. Came here to fix it, saw it was already noticed. Also true. If she can target sleeves, she can probably target boobs. And we've seen that she is willing to experiment. North: Elliot Tedd Susan Catalina Ashley Liz South: Ellen Grace Nanase Justin Diane Lucy Rhoda Jay Noah We've met others at both. So far, these seem to be the most significant.
  13. Comic for Monday, Oct 16, 2023

This sketchbook does not seem in character for Rhoda. We have not seen her fantasize, and she's happy in her relationship with Catalina, she doesn't seem like the type to be looking elsewhere. She can resize people, but there is no indication that she can resize individual features, it would be a different skill set. She may have gained additional spells; this one does not seem to derive from the way she has used her previous spells. She would still be trying to cope with the changes to magic, less likely to try new stuff. And so far, only Catalina knows she has spells (that we know of). If she were to open up about spells, you'd think she'd start with Diane, or perhaps Grace. There is also an aggressiveness to the way it's being done and to her expression that seems out of character for Rhoda. OTOH, this fantasy seems totally like an Ashley fantasy. Also noteworthy, they do go to the same school, and they both like girls.
  14. NP Comic for Saturday, Oct 14, 2023 23,590 + 1,011 = 24,601 Pretty much everyone has access to a calculator, because the app is on phones, and even if you have no signal, that should work.
  15. Sad news

(Suzanne Somers) Bummer. Kind of a shock because she was off the radar for a while. Just missed 77, too. Joyce DeWitt is the last one standing from Three's Company.
  16. Cats, Dogs, Other pets.

I agree it is a bit weak; I attribute that partially to psychology is presumptive in general, even more so with animals, but also I assume the journalist watered down the methodology. I am assuming it was a serious inquiry, and they did their best to eliminate biases; I don't think a non-specialist reporter who is not personally invested is going to translate the research well. In my experience with the granddogs, tone seems to matter.
  17. Cats, Dogs, Other pets.

Dogs and voice Cats and voice
  18. Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required)

Good fortune, man. I hope it works. Knocking on wood would be difficult. Do you think particle board works? I think the doors might have actual wood veneer.

Good news, Mlooney, /me has allies!
  20. Cats, Dogs, Other pets.

Bring the wrecking ball into the discussion. Ah, you must be in management. Or politics. What, you're in music? I suppose that counts as percussion . . .
  21. Cats, Dogs, Other pets.

Yes, and there were probably several Williams in Occam at the time, so we really haven't narrowed it down. We could call it 'William, the Philosopher of Occam's Razor'. Long and wordy, though. Or we could go with a functional name, 'The Logic Razor'. But if we go functional, aren't pruning shears a better analogy? 'The Pruning Shears of Logic'. Yeah, forget the hair clippers. I want the chain saw.
  22. Cats, Dogs, Other pets.

Named for William of Occam, it's kind of weird how we say <place name>'s Razor, rather than <person's name>'s Razor. I'm holding out for Occam's Barber Clippers.
  23. Cats, Dogs, Other pets.

Noe thanx, two fullz. Et lite. Hmmmz, starz is lite snax, rite? Ok.

Oct 14 2023 Annular Solar Eclipse Visible in Oregon in the morning, through Texas around noon - I've lived along the path of this twice, no where near it now. Prof, this will pass over San Antonio, but not Austin. You're the closest that I know of.
