So, it's only a flashback with a minor retcon or two and a new fantasy sequence. I'm a little disappointed, but I suppose it was necessary for those fans who haven't re-read the early years of the comics enough to have them more-or-less memorized.

Uryuoms who are trying to blend in with humans being closer to typical human height makes sense, even if they are shorter in their native forms, since we know that they (and their transformation tech) are capable of limited size alteration.

This explains Virginia's size, and how Will and Gill were able to blend in somewhat even before their T-gun transformations.

I like how Dan was honest about this being a retcon.

Maybe the old loose plot threads are being addressed before our cast leaves high school?

Well, magic has been shown to exist in the world, so it's time for aliens to show up as well.  Wonder what that would do to DGB's remit.
