Even Dan said there were 813 possible combinations, the game needs to be able to keep track of it somehow right? Once again: you proposed Hanma's game doesn't need to be sentient, it's could be enchanted with conditionals, each card probably has specific enchantments that activate when placed down. I countered that system consisting of so many separately enchanted components is likely having so big risk of failure / bug that having the game sentient would likely be safer.

Each player wouldn't have more than 3 enchantments at a time on them though, and when a player plays more transformation cards to buy another spot or gets transformed by someone else, the new enchantments would just replace the old, not get stacked so I don't think there'd be any worry about enchantments breaking the game. I was speaking about every card being separately enchanted.

Reading intent could potentially run into parsing troubles as well, especially if the player needs to leave for a reason unrelated to the game itself, as the player's thoughts might not be clear enough on leaving the game, leading to parsing error. A time limit might work, but induces a delay on deciding to leave the game and the leaving taking affect (it also imposes a time limit on fixing mistakes if the board gets bumped or a cat decides to board looks like a good place for a nap). And while sliding the game pieces is a possible rule, it's simply a work around that doesn't add much depth to the game and can still result in unwanted mistakes if a player that typically picks up game pieces to move them forgets about the rule and tries to move their piece in a comfortable manner. Ultimately it would depend on which is the simplest, least costly to implement, and best of the enjoyment of the players, a dense complicated set of conditionals to catch variation, or a sentience that is designed/trained to value player enjoyment and wellbeing. And since magic is a big part of this, I'm not sure which one would have the better balance of those traits. I would say it even more strongly: we have no idea how hard anything with magic is. Maybe parse errors are impossible when reading mind. Maybe the game will FORCE you to formulate your intent - possibly without you even realizing it. Such big amount of separate enchantments linked together could easily lead to more risks than sentient game. Like, what will happen if some of the enchantment breaks but other enchantments would still assume it works? In worst case, the pieces of game will lost the link and start working separately, so the undo on quitting the game will stop working. Sentience, on the other hand, might be very important thing you look for in something which transforms you. Sure, there is risk of it going evil, but evil is at least somewhat predictable. Something going buggy is worse. As a game designer for table top games that explicitly have a human referee / Game Master, I'm just going to say that have player rules lawyers is bad enough, much less with the game it self being in the loop. True, though ideally a sentient table top game would function as it's own Game Master (or a Game Master's assistant if it's not advanced enough to run itself). Given the mechanics of game is done by game itself, it MUST work as it's own Game Master. No amount of lawyering would help you if the person you are trying it on can't influence the rule. You can try this yourself, on gravity for example ... or, if you look on something simpler, on a computer game: even if something is completely obvious bug and game creator knows about it, the computer will not change the rule unless you install update for the game. Generally, it's preferable if game rules are so simple and clear there can be no double meaning. In reality, however, it's hard to implement, especially in open games. Personally, I consider better to simply not playing with players who are lawyers if it's not fun to you ... instead of making the game less fun for people who either enjoy the lawyering (D&D game between lawyer students might get interesting) or for people who don't but still needs to solve some situation they got into. Also, in most games, the solution includes rule like "Game Master is always right, even if he isn't", which means that Game Master have both the power and responsibility to keep the game fun. The same must be true for the game - it must EXPLICITLY be set to objective like players having fun or something like that instead of playing AGAINST the players. Or ... maybe the objective would be to that the game WANTS to be finished, that would also stop most possible problems. On a related note, http://www.semperbufo.com/media/sbseqart_three-wishes.html

  5. Story Wednesday November 1, 2017

Adrian lost to Abraham when he let his guard down slightly to do the moral thing and let Abraham have a chance to surrender. Yes. I would say that Adrian is more dangerous but the vampires are not aware of it. I think that even as elf, Adrian is still protected by immortal laws and Voltaire is not ALLOWED to attack him directly. It would seem like there would be a chain reaction should something happen to Adrian, Pandora and Tedd have bonded recently with Pandora even worrying about hurting Tedd, if Adrian was hurt badly or killed, Pandora would be enraged, and her actions could trigger a negative response from Tedd. Whether or not Voltaire planned this is uncertain but then again it wouldn't be called Plan CM if it was straightforward. Hmmm ... I don't think that Voltaire expected Pandora to bond with Tedd, but "Plan CM" will certainly have some very unexpected parts ... I agree with all that except that it isn't set in stone that Edward hasn't met Pandora before the "hawk and egg" incident. Pandora uses other names and routinely uses different appearances. Adrian's last meeting with his mother was fourteen years before she visited him in hospital after the fight with Abraham. Which also means it was when Tedd was at least three yeas old. We don't know exactly when Noriko left,, or when Edward and Arian became estranged, and even if both of those things happened more than fourteen years before Abraham tried to kill Ellen, Adrian and Edward probably weren't totally out of communication. Dad's Government Job, remember? We don't even have any examples of Pandora taking on her appearance as Creepy Little Girl before Magus got hurled into the Moperverse. Adrian's mother (possibly without name or without the Pandora part) might indeed be in Dad's Government Business files ... but I wonder if they know how far past reset she is and if they don't think she already reset. And the few other comics creators caring about consistency are not admitting when something changes. I really like this on EGS. Seems like Dan is getting better in it, including using the "character say something as truth and later finds out being mistaken about it" tool ... but there are definitely things he's keeping secret just so he can change them. Makes speculating more fun. I think they would notice she's immortal considering they would be training to recognize stuff like that ... and more important question, what would that accomplish? ONLY way Edward already knowing Pandora in advance would be relevant for story would be if he DID know something about her, most likely her being Adrian's mother. I think Adrian's assumption as that Pandora was trying to be vague, that anyone else might not make the connection of the amulet to her, Adrian knew that the origin of the Pandora's Box myth was through a mistranslation of pithos and pyxis. Adrian knew it ... however, I suspect Pandora never learned this little fact and am looking forward to the comics where this will be used.

Remember that it's main target for vampires and for Sirleck, not for Magus. IF Sirleck would tell him about Adrian, Magus would tell him his mother is THE crazy immortal who got him into this mess in first place. Sirleck would immediately change strategy. As far as Magus is avare, the vampires are JUST supposed to create distraction, noone specific involved. No vampire should be attacking Elliot. Vampires are supposed to attract attention of IMMORTALS guarding Elliot. That was basically original plan before Sirleck was informed about Adrian. Sirleck assumes Adrian is just around one hundred. Not over two hundreds and taught fighting from immortal who eradicated werewolves. There is lot of underestimation involved. Voltaire seem to hate Pandora. Also, he might count on her doing something which would bring magic reset if Adrian is hurt. He's not The Chosen One. He's just one of possible chosen ones. IF the magic reset would not be coming soon, Voltaire definitely doesn't need someone as experienced as Raven to teach Tedd magic OR making him stable. However, I still think Pandora is main target, for reason not yet revealed. Magic reset might be just step in plan to destroy Pandora. To be fair, Sirleck wouldn't mind if no vampire survives and Magus would consider it a bonus ... but they are underestimating Adrian and Pandora. Voltaire might simply assume that vampires, Sirleck and Magus have no chance surviving Pandora's wrath. Yes, it's quite obvious that he was too clever when setting up THAT trap. BUT so far Raven didn't realized AND Pandora doesn't know. Remember that they last talk ended with Raven assuming it was her doing and Pandora not even knowing what happened which might killed Noah. Also, Raven don't knows that Elliot was main target in that incident - WE know, but Raven hasn't been told by anyone yet. Neither does Pandora, although she knows at least little about the second attempt. Main eight are sharing lot of information between themselves, but Pandora and Raven currently lacks a lot ...

There is also question if you really can make game which is casting spells without it turning sentient on it's own. In some settings, magic tends to do that.
  8. Story Wednesday November 1, 2017

We never got a good look at Big Mouth in human guise. Maybe Kangaroo Guy is Big Mouth. He seem thinner and his interaction with the one with scarf is different. Of course, can't be completely rejected. Signal, obviously. The distraction aspect might not be spelled, however the waiting for signal was spelled quite directly. And questioning the details of contract is not best way to get paid. Agree, and especially the scarf vampire looks like the maximize-survival type. The big mouth one, not so much. True. He might be good enough to detect Diane is not awakened yet. Holding Susan would be stupid, yes. On the other hand, we have precedent for vampire making mistake with Susan ... ... hmmm ... I'm not sure, lack of empathy doesn't necessarily mean not understanding it. However, you may be right about most vampires ...

So the "thinking about baseball" is NOT as universal as Ellen and Nanase pretends. Also, considering what Diane put Susan through, she got out of it easy if it will be just Susan making big fun of her. And finally, there IS woman baseball, isn't it? (I know I'm repeating myself but I still like my explanation) Anyway, wonderful interaction between Susan and Diane. ... Vampires. Ok, can't say I didn't expected them, but isn't this too early? Also, nice reuse of character. Now we KNOW he's not saving any kangaroos. And finally, he must be good in camouflage, as he apparently was walking towards Adrian last time we saw him. On second though, Adrian is primary target: he likely knows exactly where he is and is observing him, noticing Susan and Diane was just lucky bonus. Hmmm ... did he noticed them talking with Adrian? Will he try to use Susan as hostage? Or, if he's clever, Diane?

Well when outfit is part of game, it makes sense for everyone to start with same outfit. Hmmm ... gender is part of game as well, isn't it?
  11. Story, Friday October 27, 2017

But neither by itself explains how reliable it was in Noriko's family. Sure, if there is just SINGLE sequence of wizard genes AND those genes are recesive, having both parents wizards can still guarantee the child will be wizard, but it would also be close to only way to have wizard child ... including the bootstrap problem of children of elf and human with no wizard genes not having wizard talent. If those genes are dominant, there is no reliability at all. Problem is that genetics is about mixing: allele will either spread to big part of population or will disappear completely. What magic wants - small but stable population of hereditary magic users - is impossible to do on genetic alone (not counting some sophisticated breeding programme). Meanwhile, the "nebulous magical bloodline" would be even worse: the moment new magic users stops being produced they will disappear pretty fast. Of course, with magic which has flair for drama, most likely option is that it cheats ; either it does manipulate fate to keep number of magic users at desired numbers (but that seems to require too much power for EGS magic) or it manipulates conceptions of magic users for same purpose, making the usual probability-based mixing not to apply. Alternatively, in the "not in genes" version, it simply modifies the hidden variable with strength of talent. Note that interesting possibility would be if awakening changed the probability your children would have talent. Directly in "nebulous magical bloodline" case, in case of genetics maybe AaBbCcDd will change to AABBCCDD after awakening. BTW: Mitochondria are inherited exclusively from mother ; if mitochondria-like organelles are involved in magic, they must somehow also be inheritable from father (meaning, get from sperm to egg) ... but that makes even more likely they would spread into whole population very quickly. Again, cheating would be required. Now ... everything would get more complicated when more than just wizards are evaluated. Is Susan's talent something like A_B_C_E_ or more like A_E_F_G_ ? What will happen if talents combine? What about Nanase? She has royal level magic, BUT she doesn't seem to be wizard; is it because her father is not one? Would that mean that A_B_C_ will makes you strong magic user but not wizard as you lack D? If uryuoum eggs are anything like most eggs on earth, they're packed with nutrients and stuff for the baby creature to grow and be born.(That's what the yolk of the egg is. It's embryo food!) The only question how to get the nutrients into the growing embryo. The uryuom egg might alter the embryo (or more simply force it develop in given manner) to ensure it can receive nutrients from the egg. Of course they are packed with nutrients ... but there is reason why eggs generally hatches in weeks and not months (unless there is some hibernation period involved): you can only pack limited amount there. I think that amount of nutrients required for normal nine month development of human embryo would be quite big. Now, obviously the uryuom egg might alter the embryo, either just to get the nutrients inside without mother's blood circulation system or even more to speed up the process. But ... that's what I was speaking about: it means that even if only DNA of one species was in the egg, it STILL wouldn't be completely that species, it would be Seyunolu and therefore it's completely normal for it to have Uryuom power. (I suspect there will be also lot of work with oxygen ; eggs do have pores in shell to exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide, but I have a strong suspicion that this mechanism wouldn't be enough to get required amount of oxygen for developing human brain. There is reason why lungs have area between 50 and 75 square METERS - for adult of course, not sure how much it's for newborn but I suspect it's still more than area of egg.)

We also don't need to invent new one when we still have the one from divorce we KNOW she has. ... did I forgot to put the allergy in quotes? ... oh right I did. I meant that her issue with sex may be related to her fear of touch. Oh. Right. We don't know if her fear of touch itself isn't caused by trauma. But do they always interrelate? Sounds like too simple rule ... Obviously, doing psychoanalysis of comic character who may be partially but certainly not fully inspired by problems author himself has* is unlikely to produce solid results. Doing psychoanalysis on real people is already hard. And we have very little information about how Susan was before the incident with vampire, much less divorce.** As I already said, logically the traumas from catching her father or vampire incident doesn't seem to be related to her touch issue, but traumas may not work logically so we can't rule that out completely. I just think that going into the other extreme and be sure that everything must be related is too much. (Sure, everything certainly contributed to her having limited social life, on the other hand she may not have better social life even without those issues.) * I don't think Dan has trauma from killing vampire. Although I might be mistaken. Or it might be less literal. ** And while her mother does, she might not get her therapy just because some difference in behaviour. Especially in EGS, where therapists are so hard to get. At least mortal therapists.
  13. Story Monday October 30, 2017

Even if it's caused by deep emotional trauma, it may be different trauma than the one involving vampire. You didn't explained why person couldn't have two completely separate emotional traumas. On the other hand, it seems more related to her allergy than to any trauma.
  14. Story Monday October 30, 2017

No offense but Jerry might be better than the people doing your therapy. Also, not everything went away.
  15. NP Monday Oct 30, 2017

Considering they can look however they want, even Dan's commentary implies that Hanma would have started her new life in a more adult form, but then adopted the 14 year old look to go with the anime conventions. I meant "originally" as "originally when deciding to replace her adult look with younger anime one".
  16. The last sketchbook entry was April 22nd 2016, so a year an a half more like. ... right. Didn't checked the year. I think she was being an alien squirrel still. Like, handing a lamp on the "alien" part? That might be it. I think that costume could be made much better by Tedd.
  17. Story Monday October 30, 2017

I think it might make her general socialization worse without influencing the touching problem directly. It also postponed the realization that her touching problem is detrimental to her happiness. The disappearance of Susan's stare suggests that Jerry and his serenity spell (and his counselling) helped her a lot in overcoming the vampire slaying trauma. The touching problem remained. Yeah, but the woman only had her panties left on, no bra, so there was very likely skin on skin contact when she caught them. Still much less likely to cause trauma than if her caught them covered in sweat and possibly other bodily fluids ...

  19. NP Monday Oct 30, 2017

The body base age we are talking about is the one after just reseting. After that, an Iimortal can be whatever age he/she want's to be. Not necessarily right away. Changing shape is something Immortal needs to know how to do and likely requires some power, so freshly reset immortals might be limited in this regard. I think she chosen that look regardless to her actual age, but she may be more touchy with it when she's actually that old. Alternatively, she chosen for example 12 originally, decided to start "ageing" when reaching 12 and will likely decide to stop "ageing" or even revert back when reaching 18.
  20. Story Monday October 30, 2017

I suppose you talk about panel time because not only I refuse to believe healthy teenagers are doing that little with their sexuality, we have at least one example of characters obviously doing more than we were shown. Granted, how much more is open to interpretation, but still. Also, Catalina and Rhoda ALSO were doing more than shown. Not that the vampire slaying helped, but I would assume it would be noted if her touch phobia got noticeably worse after returning from France. So, I think she had it even before.
  21. Pirate is best costume for Halloween. You can ask for candy without getting our of character. Not that her first idea was so bad ... Meanwhile, no idea what she was with Ellen. Yes. Would be good idea, we had no sketchbook for half year ...
  22. Story Monday October 30, 2017

Considering it's painful, I think it was just once and he looks differently in that form. It's definitely on spectrum. It may also be technically (biologically) defect but we don't understand embryogenesis enough to be sure about it, much less just think about fixing it properly ... and fixing it improperly has so bad sideefects that even just calling it defect is now stigmatized. Only if the sessions are done in EGSNP, otherwise the main comic would be nothing but until the sun goes cold. It could also be off-panel but it would be pity as it would definitely be interesting. Unfortunately, seems pretty obvious DGB doesn't have one and are afraid of allowing anyone without the clearance to get near them. Her touch phobia isn't THAT bad. She successfully hugged several people. But maybe it's the body fluid parts which scares her ... It would definitely help if we saw what things exactly is she imagining. Of course that's unlikely to happen ... Susan "likes to watch", but she caught her dad with another woman. I can see the experience being a reason that Susan would be wary of dating guys, the fear of them cheating, but I would have expected someone who experienced that trauma wouldn't want to even see others engaged in physical contact either. I would consider this to be sign that it is NOT from trauma caused by seeing her father cheating. Although traumas don't always work logically. Note that she apparently caught her daddy quite soon, they still had some clothes on.
  23. NP Monday Oct 30, 2017

Hmmm ... interesting. Only now I realized that even in previous Goonmanji they were sitting on floor instead of having the game on table. But they were sitting normally ... Catalina lying and Susan testing structural limits of her spine drives home the point how weird it is. Oh, and I don't think Catalina lying would actually reduce the chance of her being hugged by Susan. Without additional attraction, she wouldn't hug her anyway. With additional attraction, she will hug her anyway. No change. Immortals age: does this also apply to improper reset?
  24. Story Monday October 30, 2017

She might also try Justin, but I don't think that would change anything. Maybe she needs to think less and be more impulsive. Although even that may not work without being transformed. Also, this is second time Diane is sure she got incomplete answer. She should get used to it. On the other hand ... if the faces Susan was making were real, she might already had the answer for this. Why do you think so? Imagining Catalina as catgirl is completely natural, she's just THAT cat-like. ... wait. She also imagined Elliot as catboy. Ok, maybe she has.
  25. Story, Friday October 27, 2017

The egg technically wouldn't NEED to do any extra work but how hard it's likely to check if it needs to? More likely, the egg works same way no matter how compatible the DNA is. Including morphing. Which works on Uryuom power. Regarding how, well, look at mitochondria - they are NOT in DNA, in fact they are separate incompatible symbiotic organisms ... or the infamous Midi-chlorians ... or, obviously, the answer may be "magic", or in this case Uryuom power. Personally, I would consider existence of Uryuom power mitochondria more likely than some equivalent for human magic, but even THAT can't be ruled out - remember that fairies are NOT human. (On the other hand, magic with flair for drama doing same mistake as Lucas doesn't seem likely ...)
