A frightening thought: If Time Travel literally is the only thing believed to be impossible with Magic, then it might be that bringing the dead back to life IS possible. Edward did say that classical Zombie-type undead can't happen, but that may be more about the "spreads like an infection" part than about the "undead minions of a Necromancer" part--although from what we know about EGS-world magic, it's probably simpler to use summoned golems than to raise corpses if you need an army, so raising a dead person would only be worthwhile if you have need of that particular individual. Hmmmm ... re-reading what he actually said, it was basically that you can't expect reliability from dead and animated tissue. Meaning, it may actually be worth it to "raise dead" by putting "dead person" (soul, mind, whatever) into golem or somehow preserved body (mummy). Mr. Kitsune don't look as mummy, however ... Meanwhile, the aberrations/vampires are not actually dead.

  3. Or replied to the question "Are you a boy or a girl?" with "Which one would you like me to transform into?" Unlikely, Ashley would remember that. Also, it was over internet: offer to change sex would be assumed to refer to pretending other sex.

Hmm, true, although she got the singing ability through lessons and practice, not through an Uryuom touching antennae to her head, which is the sort of language-learning we were talking about. It's possible that sort of lesson wouldn't stick the way actual experience does. It's also possible abilities obtained this way sticks MORE. Interestingly, I carried the one-shoulder-strap bag with the strap over my head and I'm having problems with back anyway. I wonder how much worse it would be if I didn't ... We can be reasonably certain Diane is not genderswapped I think Diane the detective already realized Ellen is speaking from personal experience. Or will the moment she stops to think about it.

Is that really "other" possibility? I mean, it's possible, but it won't really answer the question of how it reaches decision. It will still leave all the options: "magic reset is outside it's scope", "magic reset is decided deterministically" and "magic reset is decided by consensus". Which was fitting as 8 was 8 because it was after 7, 7 was 7 as it was after Vista (6), and Longhorn/Vista was 6 because XP was NT5.1, NT5 being 2000. Now, I'm pretty sure XP logically deserved its own version number externally if not internally (7 and 8 were internally 6.1 and 6.2), so 10 (internally also 10) could be considered to have brought the version numbers to where they logically should have been. Considering the internal number will continue to grow but the external is supposed to stay 10, wouldn't that be pointless?

About Tedd, about herself or about the person who designed the magic analyzer wand? I don't think Tedd would be doing direct spell book updates. Although ... it's not completely impossible ... But note: considering she has hereditary magic talent, she may not completely lose access to magic. It's possible she will "only" lose her current spells. I don't think Tedd is completely unique. Someone like him could be 1 in 500 million or so which would mean he'd likely be the only one in North America. But there's also the possibility that there's is always someone like him, when one dies, another is born to take their place. If someone like Tedd is meant to insure that Magic doesn't completely become forgotten, then it would make sense that such a failsafe is continuous, rather than it come to a point where its like "you know, I think in 18 years I might have to reset magic, better crank out a couple seers" Considering seers can die unexpectedly and they are useless until at least age 10, I don't think having just one would be safe. Also, if seers can only be born in magic families, then it can require some wait before one of magic families will have child ... no, I think there are multiple seers ready at any time and few already growing. On the other hand, 1 in 500 million would mean 15 on whole Earth, that might be enough. Note that it's possible that seer needs to be born in family with magic talent. Although there may be families with magic talent not aware of it - case in point, Susan's father may not be aware of his talent ... so, even if the "Muggles" is wrong word, seer might live his entire live completely unaware.

In the case of Tedd, it might work differently, like those flashes of light and the hyperness. But as Dan said if it feels like a slight chill, it might go unnoticed under many circumstances. Kitty was in one of those circumstances where she was seeing the enchantment take place the moment she said "POOF" and felt the chill so she could quickly put two and two together. When Catalina changed the first time, it does look like she felt something, but likely attributed it to Rhoda cuddles. Hmmm ... yes. Tedd being exception might also work, it's true Catalina might miss-attributed it ...

While we see characters talking about drama and humor, the examples we were given includes Ellen having blond hair when burned out. It may be deliberate trolling of course ... or magic might not be THAT good in distinguishing humor from non-humor and drama from non-drama. Or, possibly, what is called "magic flair for drama" might not be actually about drama but about something similar, easier to determine. Or, as I said, it's something local, not related to whatever decides it's time for reset. Oh. One part of my reasoning I didn't shared yet: If the part of magic deciding reset have sense of humor, it's not GOOD sense of humor, it's more like trolling and "practical" jokes. I would be very afraid to live in world with magic like that. And if it has flair for drama, then the reset won't happen, because Tedd, Adrian or someone will prevent it at last moment ... no matter how illogical it will be. Except ... few months back, I was saying I'm convinced the reset will not happen or wouldn't be as tragic as they fear. The more the story unveils, the less I'm convinced about that ...

What makes you think FBI is NOT pulling the strings? In EGS, on our world or in Amber, whatever. I don't think it's "not worth his time". I think he really wants to write about events in two schools and don't like that the rest of world keeps interfering. I didn't mean to suggest that Noriko's exploits were at all public, just point out the lady has been busy. There have been plenty of incidents around the world happening that we haven't been told about. Now apply the normal curve with respect to how public a given incident ends up. My post was supporting the idea that Magic is not considering a rules change just because of what's happening in Moperville but it's likely that stuff has been happening elsewhere that contribute to the decision. It's just Mopereville is at the likely flashpoint for the decision. If the reason magic considers reset is due to knowledge of magic and how to obtain it going public, those other incident might not matter at all, simply because they don't endanger status quo. Normal curve may not apply: situation in Moperville is different because Pandora interferes. Incidents in Moperville may be harder to hide than elsewhere. Tell that to tens of thousands of Mages all over the world who are upset that he took their fun and useful spells away--including a possibly sizable fraction of them who feel that their magic is a definitive part of their sense of identity. I'm certain we could find a few hundred out of those who would be willing to personally put a bullet through the man responsible for their loss - - Arthur Arthur. Most of them are unlikely to be aware of Leifeld.
  10. Story Wednesday March 1, 2017

We know that Moperville is the flashpoint for a reset. If someone is thinking "this is the last straw", there's a whole lot of before-the-last-straw incidents out there. Those could be spread across the planet. There were several incidents in Moperville and none mentioned outside meanwhile. There wasn't even any mention of "the UFO seekers moved from Moperville because something happened elsewhere". Sure, Agent Cranium fears "next Roswell" ... but even if Roswell was incident with magic (and not with extraterrestrial, meaning likely Uryuom), it happened long ago and things were quite quiet meanwhile.
  11. Story: Friday 24 Feb 2017

We also know Magic seems to have a sense of humor and occasionally trolls. That argues for some kind of consciousness. I wouldn't be so sure about that, but more importantly, again, that might be some local reaction, not able to utilize all power of magic.

If this two strips are example how it would go, I would be complaining about pacing. Unless they get naked. Which they probably will, so there shouldn't be any problem. Unless Akiko is actually spying on Nanase for Mrs. Kitsune ... Regarding her father, it's good Edward Verres explained there will be no true undead in EGS. Otherwise, I would suspect he is dead and raised by Mrs. Kitsune. Either he is living on his own (or with other students) or when he will realize he needs to return home he will take back that "don't change me back". Sure, Dunkels might be able to handle this, but I don't think there will be second family like them. Really, this is something Dan should have though in advance. Considering how both Tedd and Catalina totally failed to notice transforming ... although, maybe you only feel something when you cast on someone else?

I don't think majority of kids are that determined and that focused. I know I wasn't. On the other hand, I always planed to get on university to avoid the stupid people around (especially the ones who made fun of me) as much as possible. (Obviously, I didn't understand politics back then.) You can't just "teach" someone to believe. That's why it's so hard. But, yes, it's also only option: if those kids won't see any reason to make effort, they won't.
  14. Story Wednesday March 1, 2017

What's unknown is how much knowledge an Immortal can carry over to their next life. It sounds like an Immortal can pick and choose the knowledge they feel will help them, so maybe most immortals might carry over some bit of knowledge in one reset but not the reset after that. I see a system change being a significant event so it would most certainly be carried over one reset, but what are the chances of it being considered significant enough to carry over a second reset? A third? A fourth? Pandora had almost completely forgotten about the system change, mind you having lived well passed her reset point it's not surprising, but even after 200 years it might be easily missed unless the Immortal vowed to carry that knowledge with them. Maybe the place she's going to is a type of library maintained by an Immortal that made such a vow to keep the extremely important knowledge from being forgotten. I think that Pandora almost forgetting shows that problem is how much knowledge an Immortal CAN carry but how much it WILL. Important stuff might be forgotten because it's considered NOT important. Note that based on how Pandora describes it, seems that the carried memories usually DO contain information from multiple past incarnations. And yes ... immortal who made a vow to preserve knowledge, possibly also to never lie about what that knowledge contains ... poor guy. Or girl. But it would be useful. And I can imagine someone making that vow not realizing how boring it will became. I'm not sure the vampires would die off. It's been stated that magic will be changing for humans, and aberrations are explicitly not human anymore. They likely fall into the broad category of beings with magic interwoven with their very nature, so likely their vampiric magic is unlikely to change drastically. ... that sounds like VERY bad news ... although, while explicitly not human, I'm not sure they count as (separate) species. First, how would they even know? Magic is not going to get all huffy over Moperville if it were a one-off. Odds are good that all the organizations across the planet that are working in the shadows are having trouble keeping magic a secret. Actually, yes it is. Based on what we know, Moperville is THE reason keeping magic secret is harder and harder, no other place generate similar kind of news. Also, Pandora's actions seem to be limited to Moperville and are considered big part of problem. On the other hand, FBI might just claim that it wasn't their policy, that they just failed to handle the situation. Also, it's possible then can plausibly claim they were not aware about the reset. Only thanks to the magic reset he will at least have a CHANCE to dodge them. Although, I would suppose that Arthur will be primary target. There will be considerable number of people who are not enough in the know to know about Leifeld but everybody saw Arthur in TV ... him being director of DGB, even if not already known, is more likely to get to the magic users than Leifeld being his superior.
  15. Story: Friday 24 Feb 2017

If things are TOO deterministic, then there's no need for an aware mind at all, since it's just pure processing at that point. Yes. Nothing Disco Wizard said confirms magic has aware mind. He's fairly certain magic has objectives, but being aware? Or, to be little less drastic, "needing being aware?" ... it's possible that magic is aware for purpose of optimizing drama, but that operates locally inside some set of rules. Meanwhile, the big stuff like when to reset is deterministic and doesn't utilize awareness at all. If magic has conscious (big if), doing reset may still NOT be conscious decision and is decided on subconscious level instead.

Director Liefeld appears to be checking out the guy's butt in the same way. On second frame, yes. On third, his eyes seem to point higher ... ... on the other hand, Arthur might be looking higher on first frame. Assuming what she already recited wasn't everything she remembers. Also, it may not mean much if every reset is different. Probably ... but WHAT it is? And it's possible that Voltaire used it to find his informations already?
  18. Actually, we know that the *dynamic* morphing watches have a cumulative effect. Tedd specified "that would have a cumulative effect with these morphs," implying that such is not the case with regular morphs. Granted, it's ambiguous whether she's referring to morphs from watches in general versus other types of morph, or specifically to dynamic morphs versus preset morphs, but that means we can only be certain it applies to dynamic morphs unless/until there's clarification. On the other hand, we can't be sure it does NOT apply to other watches, and in fact, you notice that the presented case was FIRST using dynamic morph THEN clone morph. It's possible that clone morphs cancel each other but most other watches have cumulative effect.

By teaching them about the consequences, and giving them a sense of self-worth so that they'll believe they have a future worth protecting. Note: it's important that THEY believe they have a future worth protecting. Things YOU might consider worth protecting might not be things THEY consider worth protecting. Anyone else flashing back to Blue Lagoon? Yes, that may be one of the few examples. Although, is that realistic? Could an island with enough food to keep two people alive for years really NOT be visited all those years? Soon and more often is one of the current theories. I would assume "more often" being much more important than "soon". Although ... what was the mortality rate for woman giving birth back then?
  20. NP: Friday February 24, 2017

More easily said than done in some cases... We are not developing completely reliable solution, we are just trying to make something better than current situation ... "Superior nutrition and disease control means you can get busy sooner"... "There are not enough blood relatives around you. You should work on fixing that." also possibly "You are overweight. Obviously, you have enough food for more people. Make those people and share."

Then Pandora/Box is making a heavy assumption that she'll be able to help Sarah get magic if the system changes. Yes, she is making similar assumption. Although I think that her situation is better - both because she's (presumably) more powerful and because it's more likely she will be able to help in cooperation with Sarah than Voltaire being able to offer help to people as trade. Note also that I don't think she's risking breaking the vow if there will be nothing she can do to help ; IMHO only not helping when she can would count as breaking that vow.
  22. Story Wednesday March 1, 2017

It does kind of look like they each are sizing up one the other 2 people in panel 2, with their gazes not changing until panel 5-6 I'm not sure what is "sizing" but I think Arthur is looking directly at that woman's butt and I completely understand him. Count me as well, he does look like Justin to me. That's assuming even after reset it will be possible for immortals to give people magic. Of course, Voltaire MIGHT be making such assumption, warranted or not ... Based on Arthur claiming the problem will be solved for (only) several decades, I think he underestimate how big problem the reset will be. Or ... maybe we are overestimating it. His idea about how a magic reset works might not be correct ... They, however, may not be willing to share with DGB ...
  23. Story: Friday 24 Feb 2017

Alternatively, kernel can have multiple APIs, with Uryoums using stable API (like POSIX) and humans using mostly something newer, with more features but unstable. DOS (originally Quick&Dirty Operation System) was mostly build from fixes and patches, with minimal amount of "core" code. Windows 95 itself were extender running on TOP of DOS instead of replacing it. Most code of windows must be for providing backward compatibility including compatibility with bugs. If magic would be anything like this, the world would already not exist. ... unless magic don't want to get public for similar reason while nVidia don't want to get public with it's hardware specifications for building device drivers: being afraid that too much use will reveal how much bugs are there.
  24. Given that Voltaire is manipulating Sirleck, it is highly probable that Voltaire knows something of Sirleck's plans, which in turn would lead to Magus. Voltaire's plans don't seem good enough to make this certain, but yes, there is considerable probability he knows something ... ok. Sirleck, Pandora and Voltaire.

I was thinking more of the consequences of an unexpected pregnancy on a kid's present and future, but whatever works... Well, first step of that road is to accept the kids will have sex sooner than they will be ready for pregnancy. Only then you can start making sure the kids won't end up being pregnant without being ready for it. Physical maturity, not emotional maturity. Interesting. Most people are postponing having kids and those kids reach physical maturity sooner ... maybe nature is trying to tell us something?
