  1. Story Friday October 21, 2016

Isn't morphing breaking physical laws though? Yes. But unlike Sarah, Elliot doesn't get any "penalties" for that. Of course, if Sarah would do some morphing in her simulation, it WOULD be breaking physical laws and would result in simulation losing accuracy.
  2. Story Monday October 24, 2016

We are very BAD at predicting mixing chemicals, actually. Sure, you can predict SIMPLE chemicals, but interactions of complex molecules - like proteins - requires more computer time than universities have. However, you are right that the problem is not caused by chaos theory, that most chemicals, while hard to predict how, behave quite consistently most of the time. On the other hand, there are likely several diseases which wouldn't exists if they would behave consistently ALL the time. There are deliberately dynamically unstable systems capable of getting unpredictable even faster. Dices, roulette wheels, ... cards in a sense ... they are all designed to magnify the inaccuracy of hand using them. Sure, android Data was able to throw dices in way they always produced the number he wanted, but there is billion dollar "industry" around based on fact that human can't do that. Yes. You can, for example, predict how long it will take for half of atoms in that pile to decay. You are not able to predict which one will decay first and your prediction about when the next atom decays can be very inaccurate. I would expect Sarah IS able to make experiment testing this. If not, Tedd certainly can help her. Pandora said it's accurate recreation. That's either true or not. If it's true, then it violates Heisenberg's uncertainty principle. If it's not true, it shouldn't take Sarah and Tedd more than hour to find way to PROVE it's not accurate. Of course the problem of computer simulation of hair (or liquids) is that it's not even on the "dozens of microns" accuracy.

There was two warnings: That the information gleaned might be inaccurate if she changes stuff too much, and that it might be dangerously accurate if she doesn't. But, yes, no danger inside the simulation itself, except possibly being there too long (isn't it more than minute already?). Or NOT use it ON them (resp. their secrets). This is where the lucid dream similarity comes in. As stated in this page, Sarah knows that Tedd can turn into a girl, so then she can simulate that process. Yup. She also knows he can see magic, but has no idea how that looks. Also, this girl is very different from the girl Tedd changed into (which Sarah didn't actually saw ...) which can also count as inaccurate. I wouldn't call that "simple". Seeing what would YOU see from given point is easier than decoding what someone else see, especially if it involves something which may or may not use physical eyes to get into brain. Tedd definitely doesn't see Matrix font symbols. We saw Tedd glowing on several previous cases, which might ALSO be him using this ability. But I don't think it's related to what HE see.
  4. Story Monday October 24, 2016

Just looking at how BAD the graphical elements on computer handle some situation is enough to prove it's NOT going to work. The technical term for that is Chaos theory. Small differences in initial conditions (such as those due to rounding errors in numerical computation) yield widely diverging outcomes for such dynamical systems, rendering long-term prediction impossible in general.
  5. Story Friday October 21, 2016

That's why I said Sarah would need to learn to keep her mind from wandering, because she seems to be having difficulty doing so at the moment. I don't think the hair trigger is specific to swapping bodies, though it certainly would vary depending on what Sarah is doing. Also having someone suggest something to Sarah just prior to her entering the simulation would be the same as someone sabotaging Elliot's morphs. Elliot uses his imagination to create the morph, Sarah can use her imagination to alter the simulation, if her imagination is what has the hair trigger, then Sarah could inadvertently do more than just body swap. Elliot's morphs are another example of something which is easier to affect with imagination than Sarah's spell. I just said that body swap being on hair trigger might actually be BECAUSE she's not used to overcoming the physical laws.
  6. Story Wednesday October 19, 2016

"close enough" is actually especially true IN quantum mechanics, because anything closer than 1.6 x 10-35 m is at same place. Except all attempts of quantum theory of gravitation or any other way how to combine general theory of relativity with quantum physic failed. We are only able to compute GPS because we DONT take quantum physics into account. Luckily, everything is big enough so we can afford to do that.
  7. NP, Monday October 17, 2016

Sure we know him. There was a series about him in TV.
  8. NP, Wednesday October 19, 2016

No. It's specifically TF gun transformations (or Uryuom transformations) which overwrite each other. The definitive answer about spells is "it varies". Even if it would be another-animal-person enchantment, it STILL might stack (combine). Meanwhile, we can't rule out two unrelated enchantments replacing each other, because we were not told any rules. So far, however, it looks like most enchantments stacking. Dan could still do it, but he would likely stage it so we don't see much, like Catalina from her back, maybe she's covered by the pile of clothes. The however Rhoda ends up carrying Catalina, we'll just see her head poking out of a pocket or...well...maybe this. The shrinking itself is EASY to do in way she will still be covered by clothes. And Rhoda carrying naked Catalina will be much easier to stage than naked Grace in MV5 NP story, so I actually expect that is EXACTLY what will happen.
  9. NP, Monday October 24, 2016

    Or TF gun.
  10. Story Friday October 21, 2016

Read previous page. The idea is that Sarah can do two kinds of things in simulation: things she would be able to do in reality and things ignoring laws of physics. As far as she only does the first kind, she should be getting real results. When she does the second kind, it will affect the simulation and starts changing it based on her imagination and expectations. While there IS risk of her doing something against physical laws without meaning to, it shouldn't be too big. Obviously. Because there seem to be two ways to move their hands (which is often necessary to remove part of clothing): body swap and breaking physical law. So far, Sarah always did body swapping.
  11. Story Monday October 24, 2016

Yes. More testing needed. She doesn't need subatomic resolution. Without an electron microscope, details smaller than an optical microscope can resolve are meaningless beyond the bulk chemical composition of substances. If Sarah is limited to her own senses (i.e. no magnification at all, just what she can see with her eyes), then a resolution limit of dozens of microns (i.e. 100 times bigger than lightwaves, about the size of a dust speck) will be enough. 1) She is NOT limited to her own senses ; conjuring a microscope might cause her to see what she want to see, but if microscope will really be there she can put anything under it and look at it. 2) The "bulk chemical composition" is hard to done right without scan at subatomic resolution. Remember that she can do ANYTHING in the simulation. She can mix two potions (that's something which is VERY bad idea to do OUTSIDE of the simulation) and she's supposed to get correct result without the spell obtaining more information. Even not counting chemistry, she can, for example, get big hammer, hit something and look where it break. IF there was a microscopic fault in that item, it's very likely to break in that fault ... ... and, of course, if properly prepared, she SHOULD be able to make experiments from quantum physics. TWICE.
  12. Story Wednesday October 19, 2016

That's true but I'm not sure how it's related to discussion.
  13. Story Friday October 21, 2016

Pandora actually said finger-snapping their clothes away could result in seeing mark that doesn't exists, while manually undressing them is safer. So, lifting up someone's shirt is ok. The body swapping seems to be on extremely light trigger. I think that not doing anything which may change content of documents will be easier, although she will need to be careful.
  14. NP, Monday October 17, 2016

Just in sex-swapping, lots of people would do a round trip once or twice, some people would swap with the intent of it being permanent one-way (although in practice they might have to swap several times before getting all the details squared away for that), and some people would swap repeatedly. Then there are costuming possibilities. Perhaps the other interesting thing is, as someone in the Illuminatus! trilogy noted, a fair number of our problems are caused by the fact that people don't change color. (This person was high on acid at the time, and was watching everyone around him change color every couple minutes.) With widespread easy safe body-transformation technology, a lot of forms of prejudice would be harder to maintain. I can imagine lot of people doing sex-swapping to fight prejudice - or at least try it, before realizing it's not that easy. But, yes, color totally IS that easy. I mean, there seem to be enough people who are able to completely fail to notice business suit and limousine just to judge person by color. Then there are things which don't change much but are still technically transformation ... being prettier or slimmer. I still think that people who think about transformation as first option are not that common. Flying, for example, is very popular. Not speaking about the difference between "it would be cool to" and desire strong enough to be marked. Although on second though, transformation would be strong desire more often than flying, so ...
  15. NP, Monday October 24, 2016

Well, so far we don't even know if she's really that eager to see Catalina naked. Wait. What will happen if she succeed in shrinking clothes but fails shrinking Catalina? Does her shrinking have the same safeties as Tedd's watches or ...

Really? I thought the French just rode cheese wheels. "They" was referring to the group of student from Moperville's schools, not to French. Although, it IS possible cars are not allowed in Paris. At least on Sunday. Possibly, but I do feel that even in real life, there are a good amount of people who think that having the ability to transform in some way would be nice. That may be true but you definitely can't guess what amount that will be based on people reading EGS If Dan hadn't made all of the people Pandora marked be residents of Moperville, it'd be a lot easier to determine if it's true or not. As it is, at least from a character's perspective, the only reason the marks are on Moperville residents would be because the high energy would guaranteed that they could immediately use their spells if they happened to trigger them like Catalina did. Ashley probably could have had her transformation spree the same day she would have been marked had it not being for her goodness preventing it. Otherwise, Pandora could have gone elsewhere to mark people, it would have made magic public a lot faster, though it would have also made the Will of Magic change the system sooner too. I think you even already mentioned it, but maybe it was someone else: the reason she marks people in Moperville and she clogged the drain there isn't that otherwise people wouldn't be able to cast at all (not counting exceptions like Sarah): it's because in Moperville they will be able to cast easily and more often, and possibly on higher settings (read: bigger boars). All of those would mean the same number of marked people will cause more obvious "hijinks". Combined with "doesn't know where the spell came from", not being able to cast spell second time in few minutes after first time might make you doubt it was you who cast it or that anything happened at all. Also, Adrian is in Moperville. She doesn't care how public is magic in France. She cares about how public is around Adrian. (Imagined sword from cheddar.)
  17. Story Monday October 24, 2016

White bears technically exist too. Well yes, but that's not so surprising. Unless you are penguin. Neo needed to die to get his abilities. Scanning surroundings on subatomic level doesn't seem like using lot of energy? In fact, Sarah's spell might violate Heisenberg's uncertainty principle. Note that we have canonically confirmed that it's the snapshot which takes that huge amount of energy, moving inside it needs barely any energy. Well, either he switches bodies with them, or nothing. It's faster than realtime, but not that much faster. Also, unless she's OCD, she would be bored before getting to first hundred.
  18. NP, Monday October 17, 2016

Man should be easier than cat, shouldn't it? ... although I must admit that it's true - I mean, that being common doesn't mean it's easy. ... the ease and convenience of transformations in EGS have more to do with DAN thinking transformations are cool. The hammers were already turned off for more than day. Not unless his predictive abilities would tell him that ... hmm, ok, maybe they would. Still, Occam's razors says that D-class talents CAN cast SOME spells even outside Moperville. And if it's not enough for you, ask Dan. Perhaps we will get nice Q&A about it. I don't think they had cars in France. They might have bus. But the vampire being able to get Susan out of crowd sort of suggested they walked around, meaning either from/to where the bus was parked to some tourist attraction, or between two attractions.
  19. Story Monday October 24, 2016

Not completely, considering "original" Tedd having some problems analyzing the spell as well. But it seems heading in direction of her testing something which would make it even clearer. Also, I've heard that with rhino instead of elephant. White rhino, to be specific. Which, surprisingly, exists. And wikipedia calls it white bear problem.
  20. NP, Wednesday October 19, 2016

Yes. Therefore, I agree it's good method, I just mentioned that it wasn't the method used in Terminator 2.
  21. NP, Wednesday October 19, 2016

They MELT Terminator 2. Encasing in big mass of concrete is usually done in case of radiation problems like broken reactor. (Of course that makes even more likely it will work.)
  22. NP, Wednesday October 19, 2016

... is Dewitchery Diamond really able to separate ANY enchantment? Maybe it can be timed. Like, "I want to turn to statue for one week". Or "I want to turn to statue until the Dewitchery Diamond is activated". Hmmmm ... depends what counts as contact. Gloves might be enough to protect against that - or not. You can definitely toss grenade to the statue from safe distance, but is it good idea if the parts of statue might retain this effect?
  23. NP, Monday October 17, 2016

Maybe equating it to gravity is not the best way to describe it, more like a suction. If you pour a bit of water on a surface, then take a straw and place it near the water but not touching, then suck on the straw, the suction should pull a stream of water to the straw. Not if you clog it Equating it to gravity might be necessary. Obviously there WAS some force which made concentration of ambient magic in Moperville bigger despite drain no longer being there (because being clogged). Vampires could be an indication if higher ambient energy though, not saying it is, but it's possible that those who chose that route need a good amount of energy to accomplish it. Except aberrations get that energy from other people. BY DEFINITION. Sigh. You, again, make assumption not based on anything in the story, but to support your pet theory. There is no reason to assume Jerry was up-to-date about what's happening in Moperville. Neither did he mentioned Sarah not being able to cast the spell immediately. AND Pandora specifically mentioned Sarah not having enough magic for her talent-based spell between reasons Jerry overlook the talent, which again suggest that it might've been hard for him to mark her on place she wouldn't be able to cast the mark spell on. Also, is that so hard to accept, with transformation apparently being EASY spell based on how many people have it? The way he was throwing them out of the cave makes me think the cave wasn't even real and was going to disappear. Although I can't find anything said about it, so maybe not.
  24. NP, Friday October 21, 2016

Hmmm ... if Catalina get shrunk she can be impaled by regular fork.
  25. NP, Wednesday October 19, 2016

My guess is Abraham used some means of preserving his spirit or whatever, maybe it wasn't true stone, but still it was enough to look and feel like it while putting him in a form of stasis for years, decades and centuries if needed. Spirit, yes. That's the third word I wanted to add after the aura and soul and wasn't able to remember. Wouldn't be only one. Wotch have temporary petrification, Dragon Doctors, even Modest Medusa ... and in Harry Potter, they also cured people petrified by basilisk. And petrification is temporary in any game I played (although that doesn't mean so much, in many cases so is death.) Of course, in EGS it makes sense, as ALL enchantments are temporary by default.
