But Libido got in a last line!
  2. Story Wednesday, Jun 19, 2019

We have seen inside their minds, but not arguing with themselves. Sarah had conversations with vampire-Sarah and werewolf-Sarah in Squirrel Prophet. Elliot's the current record holder for "mind people" for this page in Identity: Six different Elliots..
  3. Story Wednesday, Jun 19, 2019

I wonder if we're going to peek inside everyone's mind before the party even starts--if it ever does. This story's title is still Title Pending, after all. Watching Inside Out a dozen or so times the last few days may be affecting my thinking.

I quibble with "most", although I don't have the statistics to back up my feeling. My guess is the worst human monsters for the most part were able to disguise their real intentions and motivations, or they would not have had enough time to accomplish the evils that would qualify them as the worst monsters.

This is Grace, not Susan. Rhoda's been getting hugs from Grace from literally the first minute they met. Rhoda's known Grace longer now than Rhoda's known Catalina.

Of course, being Grace, she will go on to have third thoughts, fourth thoughts, fifth thoughts...
  8. Story Friday June 14 2019

Deja-vu all over again. This reminds me very much of the personal crisis Grace had just before her birthday party. And the personal crisis she had over Sam and Sarah. And, gosh, Grace hasn't even met Ashley yet; their combined personal crises could bring on another apocalypse!

  10. Story Monday, June 10, 2018

Liz is the only friend of Ashley's we know she had before she got to know Elliot and, through him, Sarah, Susan, and Tedd. But if Ashley continues to withhold big secrets from Liz, Liz is going to get more and more suspicious, and quite possibly hurt. Ashley could be afraid that if Liz gets caught up in this, she could wind up kidnapped by Arthur or other people working for the same mysterious agency. That would make keeping Liz out of the loop about even more than not betraying the trust of her new friends. How important is Liz to Ashley? Maybe important enough for her to give up Elliot and magic to keep Liz's friendship, or to try to keep it. I've been saying for two or three years now that Ashley is a really good fit for the Transitional Love Interest meme, and the conflict here provides Dan with a pretty good ticket for the bus out of the storyline, a better ticket than Dan gave Lord Tedd. Come to think of it, Dan never did buy LT a ticket; poor guy could still be out there somewhere hitching, with nary a Hedge to pick him up.

I was referring to political cartoons actually from that era, like this one from Theodore Roosevelt's Presidency: https://www.jerusalemhouseministries.net/image/political-cartoon-practice/35-best-illustrations-comedy-satire-art-images-on Not a cat, but certainly fat.
  12. Story Monday, June 10, 2018

Ashley imagines she's bringing out her wand in the second panel of last Wednesday's comic. But in the fourth panel of this comic near the end of the Epilogs section of Sister 3, Ashley is holding her wand in reality. She didn't leave it behind with Arthur J. Arthur. Ashley took Kevin home. Now the Wednesday panel is Ashley's imagination, but it looks like she's imagining her wand coming out of her right sleeve. Maybe Kevin really was in her left sleeve in the first panel. Whether or not he was, if Ashley did bring Kevin to school today, he's probably in her locker until the end of gym class... Picture Kevin falling out of Ashley's locker after gym class. Liz picks Kevin up from the floor and as Liz hands him to Ashley, he thanks Liz.
  13. Story Monday, June 10, 2018

There isn't any point in canon where Liz has witnessed magic. During the Return of the Goo in Sister, she was smoking on the roof. Dan could always retcon a scene where she did, but he doesn't do that too often. Judging from how she continued to sit and smoke during Goo II while other students were fleeing and screaming past her, I think Liz might not be panicked by magic.
  14. Story Monday, June 10, 2018

Looking over this comic and Friday's again, I see similarities between it and Ellen's sincere and totally wrong take on what's bothering Grace in The Secret of Sam. Liz is making some pretty good guesses from what she knows about Ashley, but without knowing the big secrets Ashley hasn't told her about, Liz is playing in the wrong ballpark. But while Grace had no chance of losing Ellen's friendship, Ashley could lose Liz' friendship over this if it goes on long enough. Ashley does have a family, and presumably they aren't in on The Secret. Yet Ashley's life seems to be going on normally, and she went on a third date with Elliot despite coming home far too late after the second one. This doesn't exactly jive with her mom making her wear a winter jacket before going on her first date with Elliot. Dan could probably solve the problem between Ashley and Liz by having Ashley spill the beans, but Ashley is a notable non-bean-spiller.

    But not in canon, alas.
  16. Story Monday, June 10, 2018

I was thinking that this was a more recent result for "JP Morgan scandal" (and I wasn't aware of this particular one, shame on me.) Getting a bit closer to EGS stuff, I don't remember anyone in EGS mentioning political corruption until Liz recounts Ashley's fantasy in Panel 2. For Dan, a big step.
  17. Story Monday, June 10, 2018

JP Morgan died in 1913, but his bank corrupts onward into the 21st century.
  18. Story Monday, June 10, 2018

You're missing out on a lot. Search for cartoons about Boss Tweed, Tammany Hall. Jay Gould, J.P. Morgan (he owned the Titanic but decided not to sail on it). I don't know much about European financial and political scandals, but I imagine they've inspired some memorable cartoons.
  19. Story Monday, June 10, 2018

It's the really fat cats who bribe the merely heavy cats in every universe. I actually don't recall seeing any cartoons showing robber barons as cats from the great age of corruption between the American Civil War and the early 20th century. I've seen a lot portraying them as literal moneybags, with just heads sticking out of the necks of the bags. Ashley's done soccer and ballet, both of which require disciplined training to be any good. Liz resents any arbitrary restraints, although from the body Dan has given her, she should be active in some ways. I could see her trying martial arts but not staying with any dojo for very long unless she found an exceptional sensei. What Ashley is doing in that panel is stretching. I haven't done that since the nineties; not sure if it's still recommended before exercise.

  22. Story, Friday June 7, 2019

Noah has powerful magic, and he's been trained by Pandora's son. So he couldn't be making an unwarranted assumption here, could he? Well, Pandora's son made a whopper of an unproven assumption a bit later in that same story, , or maybe two, or three. They added together to support his idea that Pandora had given Dex both his magic mark and the pythos pendant used to control and channel magic into Dex. And Adrian made it worse when he accused his mother when she came to ask for his help, and apparently without explaining why he was accusing her. Now it seems likely that Pandora could and would have marked Dex because he was lonely--and because Dex's fairy is very cute and therefore more likely to be noticed and remembered. But if Voltaire has been observing Pandora, he could have figured that out and marked Dex with a kind of spell that would suit Pandora. The pendent most certainly has to be his, although he either outsmarted himself by putting a pythos instead of a box on it, or he left that complication in because he's a bored Immortal who didn't want his plan to have no chance of failure. I'm not betting a whole cookie or more than a small part of one that Liz will turn out to be another sleeping wizard with a vampire-slaying affinity. I think some kind of perception spell would fit better, especially since Liz has always seemed to be one of the more perceptive characters. That is, something that could warn her there might be danger, or at least something "off". Maybe even a spell to detect magic, although maybe not to see it as colorful auras like another perceptive character with green hair. And now I'm going to propose another AMAZING CRACKPOT PLOT THEORY!! (Pausing for applause) We don't know zip about either Liz' or Luke's family. What if they are siblings? Aaaannnnd, because I've had a restorative nap and recovered enough energy to go back through EGS, here are four other characters with green hair which have appeared in canon: Nanase's green color clone Grace's "Claire" form disguise A boy in Grace's math class on her first day of school (in three panels) (Our) Ellen after the Dewitchery Diamond exploded. This is the only green hair which has been remarked on by other characters in canon. Ashley may be sort of a fifth, since Dan used to give her hair green highlights in sketchbooks and Patreons, but he's switched to brown.
  23. Story, Friday June 7, 2019

Maybe not. Dan didn't specify what spell Pandora could give her a spell that was "Not what I was looking for, but there are many ways it could wind up helping." Now if Pandora gave Good Tom a spell to sense puppies in danger, the spell she was thinking about should be significantly more useful than that. Also, when Dan wrote that nearly three years ago, I kinda suspect he didn't have a specific spell in mind. That way he could give Liz a useful and appropriate spell later. And Liz having a spell now seems appropriate to me, because the real problem is that Ashley is keeping the secret of magic from Liz. This is something that could end their friendship. I think this comic is short at least one panel because Dan should have shown Ashley reacting more to Liz bringing up her fantasy of a mind-controlling vampire--which is exactly what Sirleck was.
  24. Story, Friday June 7, 2019

Considering what Liz said about stabbing a vampire in the heart, minimum, perhaps Liz hasn't used her spell because she hasn't met any vampires to use it on.
  25. Story Wednesday, June 5, 2019

Maybe Tedd doesn't need to make a wand for that; maybe he can upgrade Kevin.
