My father, who is an M. D. and holds a doctorate in clinical chemistry, assured me that while death may indeed result from such excessive consumption of bananas it would occur long before the cumulative effect of potassium-induced radiation becomes a problem.

Trail Camera and Other Nature Images

For all of me, you can go right ahead. However, I suggest that you as a courtesy inform Dan by e-mail that you are going to buy the domain if it is free. Also, if it costs any significant amount of money to buy and maintain, please inform me so I can chip in by Paypal or something. -
One has to respect certain hard limits. For example, I once worked out that if one consumes half a ton of bananas a day, the cumulative amount of potassium taken in poses a grave radiation cancer hazard after only a year.

Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required)
The Old Hack replied to ProfessorTomoe's topic in Off Topic Discussion
You did nothing to deserve this. It is merely the perversity of bureaucracy tending towards a maximum. Nonetheless, I have confidence that Mrs. Prof will send these medical vultures packing. I am having some trouble believing that whatever move they pulled is completely legal. And a much easier time believing that it is a stunt pulled on sick people in a poor state to defend themselves in the hopes of extracting as much money as possible from them, or possibly a stupid mismanagement of your case they are hoping to make you pay for instead of themselves. -

Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required)
The Old Hack replied to ProfessorTomoe's topic in Off Topic Discussion
It seems every poster has a hard limit to how much imagery may be posted. I can no longer include pictures at all. I've had good experiences with Imgur, however. It's easy to use and doesn't charge. I really like these pictures. It's fun to see the cats engaged in being feline. Give my regards to Mrs. Prof and thank her for sharing the pictures! -

You're welcome. Incidentally, I thought this might amuse you -- it is the Spiderman theme played by a full orchestra. -
Ouch. At least there's no major procedure ahead in the immediate future, I hope?

I believe they fit into Dan's 2002 exemption. He says that a lot of odd stuff and plotholes happened in 2002 and that it is sort of its own little world. Too much trouble to fix but not really canon.

Now all you need to do is to also have it violate the Convention of Geneva and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and you'll be set.

I am terribly sorry, but whenever I hear that someone is wearing a tank top, this is still what I first think of.
-
My apologies. This was just me making a bad joke by making an extreme oversimplification of the conclusion of the movie where Luke Skywalker used the Force to hit the exhaust vent. Also, in MMO parlance Jedi and Sith are colloquially known as 'space wizards.'
-
That is possible, I suppose. But it could also be both, in some unspecified proportion of one to the other.
-
Especially since the whole justification for the destruction of the original Death Star essentially boils down to, "A space wizard did it." o.O

Good. Keep us posted! -
Spoony is struggling with personal problems and he will either cope with them or not. I personally believe in giving him space. 2016 was a horrible year and 2017 hasn't been much of an improvement so far. I am perfectly willing to wait for better times to show for him and the rest of us.

Actually, that's my mistake. I was thinking of the tricorder, which is something like three times bigger than the communicator.
-
Still much smaller than the clunky devices used in TOS.

<Sir David Cattenborough> "Now, as you observe this elegant cat departing from a fine meal, it may occur to you to think that in the dark all felines are indeed gray. There is some truth to this proverb, as we shall show in the following recording.." -

I may as well confess this. I only picked the camera in part because of your wife. The rest of it was for the good of the cats. Give Mrs. Prof my regards, and thank her for her work. With you and the cats. ETA: Oooh, ask her to please share some of the shots! -
Big talk from the Pharaoh who had pyramids built to serve as cell towers for his network of obelisks.

Any. I regularly call from Denmark to a friend of mine in the US on my smartphone. Unless you propose that it is sending its signal through the Earth's crust, it is presumably being bounced off orbiting satellites. But even if you argue that doesn't count, there are models extant that can do that. A mountaineer in the Everest area called his wife in Australia that way. The phone was expensive and the minute rate ruinous, but it could nonetheless do it.

That would also explain why Leia's old blockade runner didn't have a few extra drives that size lying about.
-
Actually Star Wars rather correctly foresaw that computers would eventually become much smaller and faster. Compare it to the Traveller roleplaying game, which still had shipboard computers take up a massive amount of space on technology levels far beyond the one we even now have. Or Star Trek:TOS which had communicators far larger and more clunky than even a modern smartphone.

Bah, nothing will make me quit using my iPH1-5!
