  1. Story Wednesday July 25, 2018

Big talk from the Pharaoh from the kingdom that thought the perfect disguise was to wear a huge golden mask with the face of a beagle on it. Or was that an eagle?
  2. Story, Monday July 23, 2018

There is a small difference between a creator's tweet about what is and is not part of his continuity and some random thimblewit who makes authoritative statements about something they have no idea what they are talking about. Oh, I am sorry, I did not know there were expiration dates on whether you were allowed to make comments on something in the comic or not. So this means that if, say, Elliot cuts his hair soon, I have to IMMEDIATELY say that I think it looks good if I do so, and that if I don't, I am never allowed to mention his hairstyle again?
  3. Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required)

My prescriptions just cleared. I can pick my medication up later today. Huge relief.

But... but he DID dump ice over his head! He just did it into his mouth and put some whisky in it!

Oof. Raven does not look good. Not that this is in any way surprising.
  6. Things That Are Just Annoying

Good Lord. With this kind of progression, you'll soon be seeing the FBI, the NSA, Secret Service and eventually the Men in Black.

I dunno. They could maybe have invaded in absentia? He was an incredible asshat. Fortunately his shenanigans were exposed by a newspaperman named Samuel Clemens.

I am not sure this is Germahn to the topic.
  13. Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required)

In my experience, this is better than them ignoring the problem. I have less good news. That medication I spoke of earlier? Well, apparently my doctor is off on vacation. Their telephone answering machine suggests I call one of her colleagues who takes up the slack of her absence but that did me little good as this was not mentioned on the homepage I ordered my refills on. I have medication till Sunday and then I run out of two kinds of important medication. After a few more days, I run out of a third. I am not best pleased. Whether I can convince a strange doctor to write prescriptions for me in my own doctor's absence I'll find out tomorrow, I guess.

Why not the Nile? It is full of crocodiles that can break your fall.

In a world where so-called Christian Evangelicals find parallels between a child molester and the Immaculate Conception I am willing to believe it.

Ah well. All that hardly matters anyway.

That's wrong from one end to the other! It was regular matter that tried to annihilate her. And all because of that feud almost as old as the Universe because many a picosecond ago regular matter borrowed a cup of sugar from her and never returned it.

It's Hollywood. If the movie doesn't contain certain clichés, they don't know what to do with themselves. If Hollywood ever produces a movie about the formation of the Universe as we know it, they will put a villain in it. Then again, the Bible did that, too. I guess it is traditional.

An antagonist need not be evil or even human. Arguably, the antagonist in this recent arc could be Magic and its impending change. Most of the major actors focused on it at least in part. Arthur wanted it to happen, not fully understanding its ramifications. So did Voltaire, for different reasons. Tedd and Pandora tried to avoid it. Sarah got drafted into a last-ditch attempt to stop it. And every single magic-using character would potentially be subjected to its effects. The whole arc is comparable to a natural disaster movie where some immense force threatens to affect the lives of everyone. Possibly a good comparison would be that old classic, a potential breakdown at a nuclear power plant. Everyone is moving about in blissful ignorance without knowing that at best they may be about to lose all power and at worst they may be about to experience a huge spill of radioactivity and poisonous waste into their lives. Arthur, Tedd and Van proved to be the engineers that came up with the last-minute lifesaving patch that stabilised the situation but still left many problems to be solved and difficult decisions to be made. While it is possible to have villains in a story of this kind, it is not really necessary, and a Big Bad may in fact be counterproductive to the overall effect of the story.
  21. This Day In History

Indeed. Terry Pratchett put this to good use in Jingo. At one point a rather befuddled donkey entered a minaret, thinking there might be food in there. Eventually it found itself at the top and started to voice its displeasure at failing to find anything whatsoever either potable or consumable. The disguised Lord Vetinari amazed everybody by convincing the animal to follow him down and in the confusion made off with a very useful flying carpet as well as the rather more poorly disguised Sergeant Colon and Corporal Nobbs. Lord Vetinari did not disclose the exact method of persuasion he used on the donkey except to say that if one has hold of one's subjects by their genitals, their hearts and minds would usually follow.

It is a common ailment for those poor and unfortunate people who were born outside France. It is caused by not being French.
