We're men! We're men in tights! We roam around the forest looking for fights!

He can travel in time. He has all the time he needs and far more time than he wants.
  3. Story Friday December 28, 2018

I don't know. To me that just sounds like a bandage solution.
  4. NP Friday Dec 28 2018

Maybe she is now Sailor Goon, a hitherto unknown cousin of Sailor Moon.
  5. Story Friday December 28, 2018

You're right. I've always suspected there was something vampiric about @mlooney. It is actually a general trend here. @CritterKeepermight very well be a werewolf what with all her exposure to possible bites from her patients. Or possibly a werecat, a werehamster or a werechihuahua. @Pharaoh RutinTutinis a self-professed mummy and quite likely the mentor of Boris Karloff. @ChronosCatis clearly a Cat of Tindalos that hails from the dawn of time. And who knows what other horrors may lurk at the heart of these forums.

That reminds me of a time on World of Warcraft. My group was finishing a quest in a low level area and the loot system was being annoying so I wanted to set it to Free For All, abbreviated to FFA. But I mistyped and announced to the group, "Loot set to FFS." We all had a good laugh about that and one of my teammates announced that his loot had been set to FFS all day long. So as you see, @mlooney, you have fellow sufferers. We have all been there and I sympathise.

Haven't you heard of the new underground hospitals with wandering health specialists? I visited one last week and encountered an occupational therapist, a nurse, two interns and an opthalmologist. And all I wanted was some painkillers. It was an embarrassment of riches, practically.

Bit of a sticky wicket that.

Poor kid. Sounds about as pleasant as being in the care of typical Danish Lit teachers.
  11. Well it is not all that trivial for you. Incidentally, I am recovering well. I am able to manage stairs and walk a decent distance without getting exhausted. Not quite ready to run yet, mind you.
  12. Story, Monday Dec 17, 2018

Yes. I really consider this to be one of Dan’s problems as a storyteller. Occasionally — not as often as in the past, thankfully — he completely drops the “show, don’t tell” rule and an entire page or more turns into an expository lump. I think it stems from a concern that his readers will either fail to understand or worry that he will be criticised for having his characters pull abilities out of nowhere. In this case I honestly feel that just a panel or two with Grace explaining “I can use my antennae to ‘feel’ at a distance” would have been sufficient. Most everybody would get that and if he was still concerned he could add clarifications in his comments below the comic. Nonetheless, Dan feels this is necessary and while I do not agree with him I do empathise with his concerns.

Wait just one night. One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble.
  14. Story Friday, December 14, 2018

I tend to agree. After all, Grace has a history of being extremely protective of her friends. She blamed herself for failing to resist Abraham’s sleep spell and has ever since reacted very strongly against anything perceived as even a potential threat (witness her charge against Santa Jerry in the cave and her attitude against abominations that made Justin want to talk her down, for example.)
  15. Story Friday, December 14, 2018

The point is that even stepping on a d4 HURTS. Just because it is less hazardous than stepping on an actual caltrop doesn’t mean it isn’t worth avoiding. And while a d4 may not be an actual caltrop it does share its most important trait: if it falls onto a flat surface it will always land with a point up.

I hate it. And it creeps me out. I completely agree with mlooney.
  17. Story Wednesday, December 12, 2018

Yes, that was an example I had in mind. I have also seen it happen in real life.
  18. Story Wednesday, December 12, 2018

I agree. Larry at least has grown. I hope he will keep on doing so. I have less hopes for Rich but who knows. Larry might be able to pull him in the right direction. Or he may even begin to see the light on his own. If not, I foresee the two of them breaking apart. Friendships never seem to endure very well when one starts to change but the other maintains their status quo.
  19. Story Wednesday, December 12, 2018

I can’t help but laugh a little at the way Rich, Larry and Tensaided are reacting. Dan is very good at this form of gentle humour. George, of course, is always worth a smile if for no other reason than his unflappable deadpan.

  21. This Day In History

To be fair, E. coli almost made me extinct.
  22. I’m alive.

Hey everyone, I apologise for my long silence, but I have been very ill. Early in October I caught a bad infection and was hospitalised. It turned out to be e. coli and it proved very resistant to treatment. They were forced to use an extremely strong antibiotic on me, and it sent me into a coma for thirteen days. When I woke up again I was so weak I could barely move. I spent another six weeks bedridden. I am finally starting to improve again and am gradually becoming more mobile. I can move with the aid of a walker (HUGE improvement on a wheelchair) and I am currently under retraining. My doctor is optimistic about my recovery. At one point my kidneys stopped working but they are recovering, too. I suspect the load from that hyper-antibiotic was more than they could handle. In any event, I am back and hoping to be at least somewhat active. I hope everybody here is well. Best regards, The Old Hack.
  23. Nope. I am actually walking without it now. Anyway, I am too old and out of shape to get into the Jægers. They are pretty hardcore.
  24. This Day In History

If they hadn’t invited Transylvania, they would have offended Dracula. And they had clearly seen the Netflix version of Castlevania and badly wanted to avoid giving him offence.
