What Are You Ingesting?
Pharaoh RutinTutin replied to ProfessorTomoe's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Custard with a caramel sauce from my grocer's dairy case. The label on the package calls it "Flan". While it does seem to have the typical ingredients for flan, I think that the name is not entirely accurate for this pudding cup. -
Statistics? Statistically speaking, any lifeform you encounter on or near Earth will be a bacteria. Multicellular life forms you may find are outliers and probably irrelevant. Statistically speaking, there is almost no chance you will be hit by lightning at any point in your life. But athletic events and other outdoor activities are suspended if thunderstorms are nearby. Statistically speaking, flying is still the safest way to travel. But that didn't keep Lois from falling out of the helicopter. Please don't give us statistics about potential relationship preferences. Can't we just ask Sarah, Grace, and Tedd how they feel about each other? Maybe we should let Tedd and Sarah move out from their parent's homes before making a formal statement. We still don't know how the Brown family would feel about their youngest daughter in a non-traditional relationship. But I suspect Edward Verres could accept Tedd living with two women full time more easily than Tedd living AS a woman full time.

Things that make you sad.

Orlando https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_Orlando_nightclub_shooting What makes me saddest? This kind of news is not shocking or surprising. Honestly, it now feels like a meteorologist rambling on about local weather records when I hear the statistics about how more people were killed in this night club that were killed in similar mass shootings at elementary schools, universities, restaurants, post offices, shopping malls, movie theaters, or churches. -
This was reproducing a comic Dan inked back when he was in High School. Had the female Pikachu even been introduced at that point? Really, I am asking. I don't know the Poker man timeline or how it intersects with Dan's personal timeline.

Grace chose the character with a cute pet/companion rather than picking one based on conventional preferences? This does not surprise me.

From The Munsters Episode: Herman Munster, Shutterbug (1965) Herman Munster: Say, have you two guys ever heard the joke about the astronaut and the Playboy bunny? Sgt. Baker: No. Herman Munster: Well I wish you had, it sounds like a great one.

About the Electoral College I believe it was Gracie Allen who observed that more people would know about the Electoral College if they had a Football Team. -
Late last night when we were all in bed, Ol' Lady O'Leary lit a lantern in the shed And when the cow kicked it over, she winked her eye and said, "There'll be a hot time in old town tonight"

Nonsense. When Manatee County took on its present form in 1887, Bradentown (now Bradenton) won the election to become the county seat by a majority of votes. 38. The problem isn't with the election. The problem is with the number of people casting ballots. As long as the number of ballots is low, they can be counted correctly. Perhaps the political parties are giving us ever worsening candidates in an effort to make people stay away from the ballots voluntarily and thus keep the number of votes low? -

A few years ago, I voted "early" in what used to be called absentee voting but now you just needed to show up to one of a few "early voting" sites. No excuse for an absentee ballot was needed. After that, the Manatee County (FL) election supervisor sent me a form letter asking if I would like to get mail ballots for every election up to the 2016 November General Election. They even included a prepaid response postcard. I thought this was going to be very convenient for me. Who knew the Faustian price I would pay for that "convenience" would be the horrible choices offered. -
Things That Are Just Annoying
Pharaoh RutinTutin replied to CritterKeeper's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Back in 1975, when I was in third grade, the teacher drilled it into our heads that you NEVER use "they" or "them" when speaking about an individual. The only pronouns you should use to refer to a singular person are "he", "she", "him", or "her". I know that a lot of things have changed in the last 40 years, but I am confident that I am not the only English speaker who had that kind of grammar lesson drilled into my skull. Thus there are a lot of people who would rather use extremely cumbersome phrases rather than a simpler word or phrase they know is "wrong". Grammar is an odd science. The heart of the discipline is asking the question "how do people use this language?" But for many people, the lesson of grammar is twelve years of teachers and books that tell you "this is how you must use this language!"- 1,912 replies

I was content with the "Catgirl Incident" remaining vague. Nothing wrong with some things happening just out of view. This feels like a tacked on answer to a question no one was asking.

Watching funeral coverage for Muhammed Ali, I saw the announcement of Gordie Howe. Then they showed a photograph of Howe, Ali, Rod Laver, and Jim Brown together at the same event. I find it difficult to imagine a greater athletic Mt Rushmore. -
I often wonder how someone who has experienced the fantastic will react to fantasy in art. I know many astronauts and others in NASA will credit science fiction for their interest in science. But how does someone who has been to space, but had not been a sci-fi fan previously, react to the latest Trek remake? Susan has no interest in vampire fiction, for some inexplicable reason. Diane has become a closeted fan girl. Will Warcraft: The World of The Movie, live up to her expectations? And would (could) a Griffon actually carry a human on its back? On an tangential note... When did "Hippo" cease to be a synonym for horse for the typical English speaker and instead refer to the hippopotamus?

Very true. Some of his fables make no sense whatsoever. Humans are coerced from earliest childhood to accept that these stories of talking aminals represent profound wisdom.

The TF Gun, as it is currently configured, is not an effective tool for repairing a damaged human body. Could TF Gun technology be adapted to make a healing morph system? Would it be possible for Tedd to make those adjustments? Could he make those adjustments himself? What about if he had assistance from medical experts familiar with the technology (Dr Sciuridae, perhaps)?

Writer's Block on Wheels looks like the craziest paint job for a Cub Scout Pinewood Derby Race Car. The question then arises, "Why are 8 to 11 year old boys reading El Goonish Shive?"
