What I find amazing about this is the vociferous outrage over laws banning (or any criticism of) behavior that the outraged people assure us never happened and never will.
  2. Possible Recipe for Seers

Something just occurred to me while reading a forum discussion on magic systems. Given Noriko's scar that Tedd and Edward recently learned about, it seems pretty likely that she uses an enchantment for cosmetic purposes. ALL THE TIME. Including throughout her two known pregnancies. Which produced two seers. There's also the factor that she and Edward are both powerful wizards and did magic rather often, and I'd lay heavy odds that Van's father fits that description as well... but if that were enough to produce seers with any sort of consistency, there would be a lot more seers aware of magic. So maybe it's the mother being under an enchantment - whether aware of it, or not - throughout the pregnancy, or at least throughout some particular portion of the pregnancy, that produces seers.

So you had a cot and desk set up in the bathroom?

Oh, that can be bad. But at least you didn't say your foot is shaped like a carrot. (Hoping you get at least one laugh a day.)

Maybe Voltaire has a plan to cause another change in magic. (Whether there could be such a plan with a decent chance of success, is a separate question. Whether there could be such a plan that Voltaire would think has a decent chance of success, is yet a third question.) Or maybe it isn't Voltaire. He's the obvious choice, which is a decent argument against it being him.
  7. What Are You Ingesting?

In most of the country, I get strange looks from waiters when I order salmon medium rare.
  8. Political Discussion Thread (READ FIRST POST)

Well, if you're embedded in sand up to mid-stomach, you'll find it difficult to either escape from a large predator or fight it off. So if one shows up, there's a good chance you'll disappear.
  9. What Are You Ingesting?

Only vaguely sorta relevant: "Lox" is also one of the oldest words in the English language. Those who professionally try to figure these things out say that in Proto-Indo-European, circa 4000 BC (or maybe 5500 or 7500 BC depending on which of these experts you ask), it meant "salmon" - and is helpful in figuring out where the people who spoke that language lived, as it obviously had to be a place where they would encounter salmon.

I did some money laundering today - and when I got back I reminded my lady that before she puts her pants in the hamper she really should empty the pockets.

Oh goodness. Grace is going to end up with the owl-griffin as her familiar.

It's also possible that the Uryuoms' "home world" is actually their second home - their original home world being Earth.
  14. Comic for Friday February 25, 2022

Oops, you're right - for some reason I remembered it the other way around. And we don't know what Will told Van, other than that Tedd is his half-sibling. (And not "half-brother" or "half-sister" - wonder if Van or Noriko will recognize the significance of that.) After all, there aren't a lot of candidates for who Van's half-sibling is, and while it's possible there's another one named Tedd, it's pretty unlikely.
  15. Comic for Friday February 25, 2022

Van did NOT learn from Will O'Magic that Tedd is his half-sibling. Will made a point of sending him (and Arthur) home before telling Tedd about it. Van would tell his mother that one of the other seers is a girl named Tedd. She believes her child Tedd is (a) a boy, not a girl, and (b) without magic, not an exceedingly powerful wizard. (I also note that Van didn't seem surprised by anything the Will of Magic said about him, so presumably Noriko and Van already knew that Van has magic.) So I doubt that Noriko made the connection that the seer Tedd is her child. Which means that Van wouldn't learn it from her either. ------------ Another possibility occurred to me. Mr. V is an interdimensional diplomat, so possibly it would be more convenient if he were based somewhere other than Moperville. However, there's no obvious reason why Tedd or Grace have to move at all - they could continue living in the house they are in. Arthur would want Tedd's lab set up conveniently close to him, and he's in (or close enough to) Moperville, so a nearby university that T&G could commute to from the house would do nicely - such as the one Dr. Germahn is at. We know Grace is over 18; it's extremely likely at this point that Tedd is too. (And government agencies are occasionally intelligent through inertia - if a problem of an underage person being without appropriate adult supervision can be completely solved by simply waiting for a few weeks, they usually will.) There's a good chance Mr. V can afford to continue owning that house while also acquiring a residence in another city. If it needs a bit of help, T&G can move into the master bedroom and have two smaller rooms to rent out to other college kids (who are aware of magic). So maybe only Mr. V is moving.

  17. Comic for Friday February 25, 2022

It looks likely that Lavender was specifically Edward's subordinate, and went with him when he was "kicked upstairs". Her apparent role when he was in charge of the local field agents got reassigned to another person when Arthur took over that job. However, that isn't absolutely proven - and even if true, it doesn't necessarily mean she is STILL his subordinate. If Lavender is moving in, I doubt that having another child is part of the plan, but there are ways it could be arranged. Perhaps she and Grace could make an egg together - or maybe Grace could make one on her own, as Damien was hoping. Or perhaps William and/or Gillian can be persuaded to assist. Less likely possibility: Lavender may have the rare ability to make an egg by herself. Another plausible option is that one or more (probably more, imho) of Grace's "brothers" will be moving in. This would take some reshuffling as there are indications that it's a 3-bedroom house and currently all 3 are occupied. I doubt that Edward is quite ready to let Tedd and Grace routinely and openly sleep in the same bedroom. The loss of the basement for storage and Tedd's lab would be problematic. A way out of that would be for the Verres household to pick up and move to a larger house. This could be just a short distance away from where they currently live - probably further than just across the street but possibly rather less than the other side of the Chicago metropolitan area. (Let's hope they completely empty that storage area where that mirror was found.) Weighting what is more likely: I doubt that ONE person moving into an existing household would require a moving van, rather than a pickup truck - especially if that one person expects to sleep in an existing bed. (Unless the move is during the local rainy season.) This would argue against Lavender (or Edward's current romantic interest, whomever that may be), or ONE of Grace's siblings, moving in. TWO or THREE of Grace's siblings... that's a different matter. There tend to be lots of signs well in advance of a family moving out of a house. We've seen no such signs, and neither Tedd nor Grace has mentioned noticing anything odd, so I doubt if that will be happening soon. Maybe Edward will move after Tedd graduates, and there needs to be a discussion of whether Tedd and Grace move with him or not...

Sure they do. Whatever's going on, they'll find a safe place to sit and watch. Which is appropriate because, of the main cast, he's the least introspective.

  20. Cats, Dogs, Other pets.

Yeah, I have had to explain to a female cat that while her gender identification skills were adequate, she was failing in species identification, and my shoes really weren't interested in her. Particularly not while I was wearing them.
  21. The Weather.

Around here we have been seeing swings of 30 to 40 degrees in 12ish hours. Today we actually used the AC for a while, and the heat will be back on tonight.

Hm... I initially misread that. Running with it... Squirrels are in fact omnivores. Their regular diet includes insects and small lizards. They'll raid birds' nests for eggs or baby birds when they think they can get away with it. But they don't have a special interest in horses.
  23. A fellow on another forum I read, recently participated in a furmeet in London. He says that as they were walking down the sidewalk to a nearby park, a bloke out smoking in front of a bar asked if it was a protest calling for "... um... more cuteness in the world?" (The answer was, of course, "Yes... yes it is.")

  25. Video Game Discussion 5

It's a railgun-type weapon. What's under the thumb-hole is the power cell. The shiny metal you see at the butt of the weapon is actually the back end of the ammo magazine. There is no casing to discharge out the side, so that's not an issue, but there DOES need to be a way to see whether the weapon is ready to fire and a safe way to clear a weapon from that condition. (You can explain anything if you're sufficiently desperate, insane, or ignorant of what you're talking about.)
