  1. Story Monday August 29, 2016

Just want to point out: We know that Susan has a summon-magic-objects affinity that gives her a major boost on being a vampire hunter. We know that Diane also has a magical affinity that gives her a major boost on being a vampire hunter - but no magic-analyzing person has said what that affinity is! Nanase and company were assuming it's the same, on the basis of the two being sisters; but they apparently (pending further info) aren't, and even if they are, it may or may not be the same. A different affinity? Maybe she's a vampire-finder; that would definitely help in disposing of them, in fact I'd rate it as more dangerous to a vampire than Susan's ability (since magic weapons are optional - a gun will do - but finding the vampire is essential). Or a blocker - vampire can't feed on anyone in her presence. I'm sure there are other possibilities.
  2. All Things Ashley

Well, if that's it, she isn't Korean. Korean fox spirits (kumiho) are systematically evil, their favorite dinner being human livers. (No mention of fava beans or chianti.)
  3. Story Friday August 26, 2016

I don't think Edward would just accept anyone's word on this and swing into action. He'd seek verification first. I also don't think he'd completely discount an immortal's word either. Not even Pandora's. He might doubt it, but he'd be concerned enough to... seek verification.

Wild guess: Liz gets a permanence spell. Nobody noticed for months because there are special conditions on when she can use it: she has to be near an enchantment or summon. Then she can make that enchantment or summon permanent. Wild guess is probably wrong because it's pretty much the opposite of conspicuous. At this time, our favorite Faux University psychology student wants conspicuous magic.
  5. Story Friday August 26, 2016

So we know that if, in her spellspace, Sarah touches another human, her consciousness shifts into that human's body. What if she touches an immortal? What if she picks up a baseball bat and delivers a firm blow to an immortal's head?
  6. Things that make you MAD

Yeah, that would take Pie off my list of preferred reviewers. Basically she'd only get a shot at it if there's a character significantly based on her.
  7. The Weather.

That "10% chance of rain" is deceptive. They have a certain, let's call it a district, that they publicly issue the forecast for, and the size of a detail of the weather can be considerably smaller than the district. So the forecast is for a person randomly located in the district. If there is a 100% chance of rain in one area that is a tenth of a district, there is a 10% chance that the randomly-located person will be randomly located in the rainy area - thus a certainty becomes a 10% chance. They CAN do substantially better, particularly in the very-short term (like a couple hours), down to individual city blocks, but imagine how long the resulting weather reports would take...

I don't recall Grace having the ability to spot people with power. Luke has that ability, Greg can measure power levels, and Tedd has the ability to analyze spells when he sees them being used. Edward relies on somewhat-conspicuous instruments for the task.
  9. Story: Monday, August 22, 2016

Well, on her way into Grace's dreamspace she said she was looking to see who was meddling there - no mention of wanting to talk to Grace herself, other than if needed for that purpose.
  10. All Things Ashley

    Dancing soccer, of course.
  11. Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required)

The small influence that drags a metal chair halfway across the room and four feet in the air, then disassembles it - or turns an oxygen mask on the other side of the room into a deadly projectile? THAT small influence?
  12. Story Friday August 19, 2016

That seriously depends on one's relatives.
  13. Story Wednesday August 17, 2016

Oh, that's easy. Elliot -> the superheroine Ellen -> Elliot Nanase -> Ellen (not necessarily required) The problem with this is that they'd really prefer to not be associated with the superheroine at all. They don't want to be known as her friends, because then they become both a way of contacting her and a target for those who want to harm her but can't find her (or otherwise aren't able) to do so directly.

You know, it's possible for an immortal to have personal ethics that are more restrictive than immortal law... maybe in that situation some other immortals could have marked Sarah, but Jerry's personal ethics barred him from doing so. When you think about it, not many of Pandora's marks have given a new ability to magically do visible things to other people. Rhoda's might be the only one we know of so far. (Tedd's mark gave him a limited duplicate of the TFG - nothing new.) What would be her incentive to give Ashley a transform-other-people spell? Entertainment? But if Ashley's too 'good' to actually go on a transformation spree, there's no entertainment value.

A bit of poor configuration. In writing or displaying a message, the default text color is black; in editing, it's white. BRILLIANT! Best fix I know of: Go ahead and edit. Click in the message. Hit ctrl-A. In the bar of icons for editing, click the underlined A on the far right and change the text color from "automatic" to the black at the left of the second row (or some other color if you prefer - anything but "automatic".) If in the course of your editing it manages to change new typing back to "automatic", hit ctrl-A and change the color again.
  16. What Are You Ingesting?

IMHO it's generally better than KFC... but less consistent from one restaurant to the next. We found one where if they deep-fry something - ANYthing - it's overcooked.
  17. Immortal Alignment

Of the people I knew who otherwise loved 4E as compared to earlier editions, almost none used the 4E alignment system. 3E's alignment system was much better. (In 4E-by-the-book it's impossible to be Lawful but not Good, or Chaotic but not Evil. Bugger that.)
  18. Things You Only Noticed On Reread

Sirleck has never been in direct control of Arthur. (What goes on via bribes or threats, I can't say, but for an aberration, attempting to bribe or threaten a wizard that's part of a government agency of wizards seems like a bad idea to be pursued only if desperate - and then getting away and disappearing again ASAP would be a priority in my opinion. Fortunes can be rebuilt.) Sirleck at this time is almost certainly in control of the host at all times - it's implied that without him, said host would die any moment. When the host was healthier... temporarily releasing control would be risky. The host might not be happy being an identity-suppressed minion. And if the host could find a way to block Sirleck's re-entry, or destroy Sirleck, the host would probably be sitting pretty thereafter. I don't see Sirleck as one to take unnecessary risks of that sort. We also don't know if Sirleck can still survive without a host for more than a minute or two. Still, there's nothing clearly definitive.
  19. Story Friday August 19, 2016

Disco Wizard says his only source of info is what he saw on the television news, and he explicitly mentions three immortals. Tentative conclusion: the television news mentioned three immortals. Alternative: DW lied about how limited his sources of information are - but not necessarily about how limited his information is.
  20. Story Wednesday August 17, 2016

I see that the idea it's Mamase has already been suggested... And Elliot's place from Susan's place. Other spells? Oh, let's see. Long-range spells: Nanase: fairydoll; fairy self-scrying; clothing swap. Susan: summon magical copy of object from box; distance from her a (semi-independent) fairydoll can fly (maybe - it definitely isn't restricted to line-of-sight). Sarah: distance she can travel in spell-space (maybe, since it isn't determined). Grace: telekinesis (maybe, depending on exactly how she flies - does she push the planet away from herself, from at least a couple thousand feet up?). Short-range spells: Nanase: fae punch. Ellen: at least two beams. Tedd: TFG. Touch-range spells: Justin: whatever you want to call the blow he hit the fireguy with. Self spells: Nanase: hair change; illusions; hovering; Guardian form. Tedd: genderswap; shapeshift. Grace: shapeshift. Elliot: genderswap; superheroine (has lots of aspects just by itself). Justin: illusions. Ellen: Guardian form (maybe). Area effects centered on self: Nanase: how many are looking? Elliot, Ellen: Tamashii Gekido Did I forget any?
  21. Story Friday August 19, 2016

The only times she has expressed intent to harm someone, the target was someone who had hurt FAMILY. I'd say she leans slightly toward Good... and heavily toward Chaotic. According to the backstory pages, in her pranking days she did trade value for the entertainment her pranks provided. Overall I'd rate her as a benevolent trickster... ... of course, at the time, the target of a benevolent trickster may not recognize the benevolence... He's an immortal; he has time.
  22. NP Wednesday August 17, 2016

Tedd knew that transformations are, in reality (well, EGS reality), possible. Ashley didn't.
  23. Unsolved Mysteries of Susan and Diane

In a typical wolf pack, the other wolves (except the alpha male) refer to the alpha female as "Mom".
  24. Story Monday August 15, 2016

Actually, industry only stops consuming something when there is a more cost-effective substitute. The cost of a unit of unobtainium is infinite, so ANY alternative (including simply doing without whatever we needed the unobtainium for) is more cost-effective. Even when there is still a bit of a resource out there, as the cost of locating, extracting, and refining one more unit of it goes up, there are more and more uses where some alternative is more cost-effective... because of this, there are quite a lot of resources that we will NEVER run COMPLETELY out of, we'll just entirely stop using them because there is no use where they are the most cost-effective choice. And... what happens as the magic runs out?
