Remember, Edward Verres is the guy who mused aloud about Grace not dying, in front of Grace's boyfriend....

Agreed. This is one of those cases where the meaning of a word changes in different contexts. One can betray a trust without it being a deliberate betrayal.

That doesn't sound like very noble behavior. Were you playing a Jedi or a Scoundrel?
  7. The Association Game

Dare To Be Stupid (Which could bring us back to Transformers, but the original Transformers: The Movie this time, with Leonard Nemoy as an insane robot, Eric Idle as a pile of junk, and Orson Welles as a planet...)
  8. Things That Make You Happy

Hooray! Welcome back! One of the few positive things I can say about Concast is that their WiFi connection is available almost everywhere! If my own service goes down, I can usually find an xfinity signal to get online with.

So, make an exception to their un-killability when it comes to pointing your gun at them. Or just take it away completely, and teach them not to be so careless in firefights.
  10. Things You Only Noticed On Reread

I doubt there was that much conscious analysis. More likely whenever she'd think of going to the dojo, or even of resuming the sparring/kissing tradition, it just felt wrong, like something she just wasn't into anymore, didn't feel right to go back to doing it. Ellen acts on instinct a lot, but her instincts usually come to the same conclusion thoughtful analysis would.

Holy truth from time immemorable, or at least since the days of the avatar PLATO game and the Zork text adventure games. :-)

Another option to add some realism would be to have a small but non-negligable chance of the gun going off accidentally any time you point it at someone. A few great runs ruined by having a vital NPC getting taken out before they can help you might teach players to respect their weapons a bit more.
  13. Story: Friday April 8, 2016

I'd love to see Greg again, it's been far too long. Maybe we could see some of Ellen's other beams, and maybe we'd get confirmation of the Fanon idea that Greg and Vladia are dating. :-) If you look at the next page, their faces aren't really *that* similar. Susan is more angular, the nose is a bit diffeent....the woman looked like a baby-faced Susan a lot more than she looks like a more mature Susan. You know, given that Mr. Verres said he's been actively addressing the Lord Tedd issue, I wonder if *this* is the *real* reason Edward doesn't want his son to know. If Tedd knew that his mother's enemies might come after him and his friends, he doubtless *would* renew his efforts to develop weapons and increase his power. Perhaps it was the desire to protect his friends and family, to make sure no one could hurt them, that set his alternate(s) on the road to becoming Lord Tedd in the first place. The reason I don't see Edward doing anything bad to Justin or the others is because of how he treated Ellen after her creation. Despite her attempt at becoming a villain, he treated her with kindness and understanding. He gave her equal status with Elliot and did everything he could to help her and her family integrate her into the world. He may be clueless about his son's gender fluidity and how to deal with it, but he is not a bad person. Even that hurtful behavior comes from love and fear of Tedd being harmed by his transformations, not out of any callousness or cruelty. Edward is a good guy. I really think that once someone explains what's going on with Tedd, he'll prove to be supportive and loving there, too. So I just can't see him bringing any of these kids to harm based on what sort of man he has shown to be. If anything, his reply to Justin may have come off as more threatening than he would have intended, another sign that he sometimes isn't aware of how what his says comes across to others quite as much as he should be.

Indeed? And what, pray tell, was that fine lady's maiden name? Purely out of curiosity, of course! (Hmm, no idea what your equivalent of the last four digits of your social security number would be....)
  15. Story: Monday, April 11, 2016

At first I assumed by "he" you were referring to Elliot, but now I see you could have meant Mr. Verres. In which case, it's a little bit freaky to realize he likely *knew* exactly who Diane was at New Year's, and that she was Susan's twin. In which case, it's also a bit irresponsible, knowing Susan's history, not to have given Diane any warning or protection....

  17. What's in the Lost and Found?

We've tried to get Highlander 2 in there, but apparently even the Lost & Found has standards, keeps spitting it back out. (An actual 0% on Rotten Tomatoes, last I heard. That 4% movie is *better*.)

  19. I Am Not A Werewolf

Like I said, I have no problem with using this thread to discuss this sort of game, favorite past games, etc, until such time as we do have enough people to play. Another fun card to include in the deck is Cupid. The first night of the game, Cupid gets to pick two people to be The Lovers. Keep in mind that Cupid has no more idea than anyone else what roles the Lovers play, which side they're on. The Lovers then wake up and recognize each other. They each have no idea at this point which role their mate is playing. What they know is that if one of them dies, the other will immediately die of a broken heart. Like Masons, or indeed like Werewolves or the Seer, they have to figure out ways to steer the discussion and convey informatioon to each other without giving away their roles, as the two-for-one deal is difficult for the more bloodthirsty to pass up. If both Lovers are Villagers or both Lovers are Werewolves, then their goal is obvious. If one is a Villager and the other a Werewolf, then the two of them win if they are the last two players left at the end of the game. I was Cupid a couple of years ago at WeeM. There was a teenager among the group whose friends had just been teasing him about how much he liked a certain girl, while she had stepped out of the room to get a fresh cola. When I saw I had the Cupid card, I knew what I had to do. Half being a brat and a troublemaker, and half hoping to break the ice for him, I made the two of them the Lovers. It wasn't until I died a few rounds later, and got to stay awake at night to see who was which role, that I discovered the cards had made him a Vanillager, and her a Werewolf. This pair of moon-crossed Lovers proceeded to direct and manipulate their fellow players masterfully, protecting each other without tipping their hands and keeping the teams even enough to ensure that they were the last two standing. Even though I'd died, I kinda felt like my team had won! :-) Some sets have cards for The Lovers, but that version means they're always both villagers; I really prefer the extra dimension that their having pre-existing roles adds.

  21. Sketchbook: April 7, 2016

Grace as Eleven definitely works, but then it would have to be Tedd as River. That could give us Ellen and Nanase as Amy and Rory if we wanted to keep the relationship factor. If I had to pick a character to be Rory, I think it would be Justin, but that doesn't fit any of the rest of it. Of course, Nanase would also be a great candidate for Clara....
  22. Story: Friday April 8, 2016

Even if her mom is her birth mom, it's still an awfully important secret to keep from Susan, that she has a sister, a twin, and for some reason they not only separated them, but never told either of them about the other! They stole an incredibly important relationship from her, years and closeness which can never be reclaimed, and I have a very difficult time coming up with any sort of adequate justification for doing that to both of them. Her mom would have been lying to her her whole life. That sort of revelation irrevocably damages a relationship, and she'll never look at her mom the same way again. (By the way, folks, let's be careful about using terms like "real mom" in our discussions. If you have to make a distinction, use "birth mother" and "adoptive mother" or something else descriptive rather than judgemental. We try hard to use the right terminology in regards to gender, sexuality, and identity; we should show the same sensitivity and accuracy here.)

Hmm, seeing the link above to the bloodgrem phone call, I wonder if bloodgrems are from the other half of the world? Is that where summons come from?
  25. Story: 2016, April 4th (Monday)

As long as Elliot is only using features his phone already has that are included in his plan, I see no reason why he should see any change in his bill.
