Vorlonagent got a reaction from animalia in Character Alignments
I'm in Chapter 53 or so of Way of Kings. It was a slow buildup all the way through the book. Part 1 was OK, Part 2 better, Part 3 things got interesting. I am getting into Part 4 which is awesome. Sanderson is really putting his main characters through the wringer, though. I feel sorry for them both.

Vorlonagent reacted to ProfessorTomoe in The Album, and Other Music
I've finally netted $100 in sales from the CD, MP3, and streaming sales. Not a king's ransom, but money is money.
Another thing I've netted is a title I can add to my name - ASCAP! As in ProfessorTomoe, ASCAP. (Not my real title) (No Ass Cap jokes, please)

May 18, 1993: In Copenhagen, Denmark a large group of demonstrators assemble to protest the legality of a recent plebiscite about Danish membership status in the European Union. For the first time since World War 2, police officers discharge firearms against assembled protesters. 113 pistol shots are fired and a total of 11 injured protesters require hospital treatment.
Subsequently, a commission is established to investigate why Danish police officers are such awful shots.

My own impression is this: that Ellen is still tremendously conflicted about her own creation because it was such a traumatic experience. She feels irrationally angry about it, which I fully understand. She had very conflicting feelings even about Tedd whom she until recently -- to be exact, this page -- held responsible for her creation because of his careless use of the TG gun and for his part in getting Elliot to the diamond. Now she has learned that Magus used Tedd, Elliot and her creation simply as tools to set himself free from his prison dimension. Acts born from desperation, yes -- but even understanding that, Ellen would still be furious, knowing as she now does that the sole reason for her existence is that she was intended as a one-shot zap device to give Magus the means of possessing Elliot. Granted, she has found meaning of her own since, but I really doubt that will calm her very much.
In short, she badly wants to give Magus a piece of her mind, and I do not really blame her.

Kitty: Silly! How else would others know you're a catgirl?

BIG IF: If magic works in Magus' world the way Magic works in EGS, at least as far as magus getting spells appropriate to who he is, maybe most of his magic is melee combat spells similar to ASMA moves but without shouting the attack names.
Or maybe he's really enjoying having a body again so he's simply favoring physical stuff just for the feel of it.
A query to Dan might be appropriate....After all Elliot has this shiny new spell in his book and I keep expecting it to be important at some point...

I do see the problem. I think our main difference is in how severe we think it is. I respect your opinion in this and perhaps writing Dan about it would not be a bad idea. I may do so myself.
So, conceded. It is a problem, and noteworthy, and better to comment about it before it grows too large. I will write Dan about it; if you feel like it, I urge you to do so as well.

when I visited Scotland a few years back my very patriotic scottish tourbus driver told us that the movie Braveheart rekindled the scottish sense of self as "scottish" rather than as british. The Scottish independence vote was mere days away, which might also have something to do with it.
He complained about being ruled by people two hundred miles away as if that were some huge distance. I repressed a snicker. As a Californian,, my *state* government is 200 miles away. Washington DC is 3000 miles away. But the real distance is mental not physical. My tourguide left me the impression that the mental distance was a very wide gulf, as if the british empire were long gone but the imperial mindset still lived on.

I worked on The Realm, a proto-MMO put out by Sierra On-Line about the same time Ultima Online came out. We were silly and naive enough to think letting players pick the pocket of other players was a good idea.
We quickly learned how wrong we were...
