In other words, the pyramids were erected by magic. Poor van Däniken -- he was convinced that alien astronauts had built the pyramids, but in reality a wizard did it! What? You can't tell me that the Pharaohs weren't wizards even by your own definition!

No. In one of the Q&As it is specifically stated that Ellen's beam mimics Uryuom magic. It is human magic imitating Uryuom magic.

That still leaves the question of what makes a good yardstick for a meter stick.

http://www.egscomics.com/egsnp.php?id=688 I knew it. Hanma is a defaulter.

Whatever it was, it's gone now, and Egypt is covered in imitation marble particles. Humph.

Big talk from the Pharaoh who had whole pyramids covered in marble and their tops plated with gold. And where's that marble and gold now, pray tell?

I find myself quite curious to discover what other important assignments this clearly key Committee might have had. Possibly investigating why it is that one always returns with an uneven number of socks after having done laundry, how much wood a woodchuck would chuck if it could in fact and would allow itself to be persuaded to chuck wood and whether it in fact sometimes rains without also pouring.

Please allow me to recommend the excellent Dumbing of Age webcomic if you wish good examples of the kind of behavior there, along with much drama, folly and quite a few good laughs as well.

Fixed it for you.

Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required)
The Old Hack replied to ProfessorTomoe's topic in Off Topic Discussion
My wife has recently added some expanded-size plushie deadly plagues to her collection, including variants of typhus, ebola and the Spanish Flu. As you can imagine, I am quite careful around her when she is in a mood. -
Yeah. I looked into it. It was in Indiana, 1897, and it was actually only implying a new value of Pi, which was 3.2 and not 3. It got laughed out of the Indiana Senate. Mind you, a later mathematician found out that the 'math' in question (a supposed solution to the unsolvable Squaring the Circle problem) could be worked out to yield seven different values of Pi, all of them wrong.

I don't dare. One state Senate in the US actually almost made Pi equal to three by legal mandate. Only extreme stubbornness on part of the mathematically literate population blocked it from being signed into law. In our Parliament we have people with such math skills that they believe that 30% of all men and 30% of all women add up to 60% of the population. If that suggestion actually made it onto the agenda, I would fear for the future of mathematics in Denmark.

Don't remind me. Danish Parliament just started to fight over next year's budget.

The Moderator: Tom, would you mind reposting this in a new thread? This is sort of getting close to necroposting territory, and I think we may as well leave this thread decently buried.

Maybe with practice he can train himself to do Immelmanns instead. -
Also, this is pretty much routine for the Dunkels. Even Elliot himself acts this way.

I have no idea, but don't panic. Just ensure that it is part of the record. Report it to the people involved. And try to go back to the planned schedule. -
http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=2417 Uh-oh. I was afraid of this.

bad movies Terrible movie thread
The Old Hack replied to InfiniteRemnant's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Sure. Many. The Hunt for Red October springs to mind. Or A Bridge Too Far, or Time Bandits, or Highlander, or The Hunt For Red October, or The Untouchables... plus a whole host of older stuff I am less familiar with. Who played against fellow badass Christopher Lee in The Man with the Golden Gun. Christopher Lee was in the Commandoes during WWII. I don't think I need add very much to that. -
That happened to me on one memorable occasion. My old Burmese Catso once singlepawedly ended the war on the Eastern Front with one massive offensive leap that completely scattered von Rundstedt's advance on Rostov and the oilfields in the south of Russia. Mind you, Zhukov's defending forces weren't in much better shape. Subsequently the conflict petered out in a truce where we called out for pizza and Coke. This was later dubbed the 'Peacemaker Move.'

Ah, yeah. Yeah, playing 'Nuclear War' with Skynet can be pure murder.
