Meh, the first two panels make a good point—the first and most important person who needs to be satisfied with Tedd’s look is Tedd themself.
-
Don’t try to understand ‘em Just rope and throw and brand ‘em!
-
It’s not “ looking girly” that Tedd worries about, but rather being harassed for gender-nonconformity.
-
A halfling in 3.5 with bonuses to Throw Rock. Note that the others are practically in a panic over how dangerous he could be with it.
-
Given Tedd’s feminine-ish appearance, and a few near-sightings of them in “girl mode”, there are probably also rumors that Tedd is a girl posing as a boy.

So NYC is sinking more slowly than sea level is currently rising. -
In that case, the position ought to be called something like “Chief Dogcatcher”, as opposed to sounding like he was the one who went out to catch the dogs himself.

I have no idea why dogcatcher should be an elected position. It is not any sort of policy-making position, and one would expect that qualification for it should be based on the candidate’s job skills rather than on the ability to campaign.

Discussion of Military, real or fictional

Well, I originally stated it as the most remote posting that was within the United States proper. (That is to say, ignoring legal fictions such as “US-owned facilities in foreign countries count as US soil”.) -

The Antarctic bases are not on U.S. soil. The Pacific islands may be farther from the nearest other land, but are they as far from “civilization” (read: settlements of several thousand or more people) as Shemya? As for marine activity my father said that they got a large cargo ship in every few months for bulk supplies (food, fuel, equipment, spare parts, etc.), and anything time-sensitive came in by air. -

My father was stationed at Shemya in 1970. It’s literally as remote as you can be while still being within the United States. -
They are probably thinking that power corrupts, but their guy will be all right because they are doing it for their people instead of for personal glory—the standard thinking of most revolutionaries.

True, but the goal was for the words to be already recognizable to the audience without translation, resulting in words such as “Potentia” for “energy source”. -

True, but the writers wanted the vocabulary to identifiably resemble known Latin words, so that’s where it ended up. You’re right that it would have worked out story-wise for Alteran to have been the original Proto-Indo-European instead. -

I don’t know Traveller. We were discussing the glyph used in the “Stargate” series logo, so I was referencing Stargate canon. -

No, that was the Gou’ald, who impersonated gods. The Ancients were the genetic precursors of humans. -

The character is actually the Alteran glyph for Tau’ri, or Terra. (The Alterans, or Ancients, were the ones who invented the Stargates, and their language was apparently the ancestor of early Latin.) -
A Count has dominion over a County. A Baron generally ranks below a Count.

Then if they really want to be completely anonymous and don’t want to dive too deeply into the organized crime scene, they should probably go with the AR-15s and some sniper rifles, along with some portable mortars or grenade launchers of some sort.

I was thinking in terms of Life Peerage type Lordships, as are granted by the modern British government. The Mage-ruled side of the EGS world seems to be willing to grant noble status to any sufficiently powerful Mage who is willing to swear fealty to the reigning Queen or King, but it is kind of implied that this is a status granted to the individual rather than their bloodline—any descendants would have to prove their own worth, and a child with no potential to become a Mage would not inherit a title. Anyway, I would think that if Liam Tyrant-Slayer had a more specific title (e.g. Count or Baron), then it would have been stated, which is why I speculated that he has some sort of Peerage-at-large (i.e. he has the rank and a substantial salary/stipend, but no specific landed estate tied to his title of nobility as opposed to private holdings).

IIRC, Liam is basically a Captain of the Royal Guard? (Or whatever you call a high-ranking Royal Guardsman who is not a General. Would they use Colonels?) Dwight addresses him as “Lord”, which implies a rank of Nobility higher than Knight but probably lesser than Baron.

If the goal is targeted assassination, then the sniper rifle would be preferred. If the goal is a massacre (i.e. high body count in a target-rich environment, such as a gathering of Mages), then the minigun or machinegun is warranted. However, if our rebels are not planning on raiding military stores and instead want to keep to the civilian or black market, then a 1919 Browning .30-06 machinegun or civilian semiautomatic rifle such as the infamous AR-15 would be a more practical choice than a rotary gun.
-
On the other hand, a minigun is harder to conceal and transport than a sniper rifle, and the element of surprise remains important.

Life will go on, but a large fraction of the species will not. Let’s try to be one of the species that stays alive. -
Tech makes sense for what they want to take back because most of the things that we know that the EGS side has that the other side does not are either tech or the products of tech. Non-magical (and thus harder-to-trace) telecommunications, computers, high-tech materials such as ballistic or ceramic armor, or weapons would all seem valuable to a rebel faction.
