My favorite version is still Vincent, from the TV series in the 80s. :-)

Fourth panel here, we have a girl with long straight hair and pockets that kinda look like Sam's. Could this be Sam on a non-card-game night when he can't be "at his most real" and has to go out without binding his breasts and otherwise altering his appearance?

Actually, it's pretty cool to see most-of-the-time-rivals come together to support each other. We saw a bit of that when the White Sox won the World Series in 2005, too, although maybe not as much, given that they hadn't been nearly as long without a win. Everyone seems to be jazzed that the Cubs won, except maybe the Cleveland fans, and even they seem okay about it. :-)

That one was outside canon, and IMHO the obliviousness was part of the reason. I don't think resisting a spell is a conscious thing. The boar didn't think to itself, hmm, I do believe I am under a magical enchantment, should I resist it or try to keep it going? The boar had no idea what was going on, it was innate desire and its effect on spell resistance at work there. Unless you think every single person at the New Year's Eve party was both a closet high-degree submissive and were so impressed with Nanase they all wanted to be her instead of themselves, their innate spell resistance would be trying to end the enchantment. It just wasn't strong enough to do so. You could put the spell on the package of powder the punch was made from. Or the bottle of booze added to it. Oh, look, another baseball fan! And I could definitely see Greg dressed in a Cubs hat. And T-shirt, jacket, sweatpants, and shoelaces. Or he could be a Sox fan....but he'd go for the Cubs gear this year anyway, a lot of them have!

Eh, if anyone else had taken me up on it, they could be more strict. Since it's just me, I get to say what counts. ;-)

People have been leaving green apples at Harry Caray's grave. Apparently, while he was the iconic announcer for the Cubs, he commented, "Sure as God made little green apples, someday the Cubs will win the World Series!" It's a relatively well-known (if now somewhat old-fashioned) phrase, but the fans picked up on it and remembered it, all these years later. They just had an interview with his widow where the apples came up, and played a clip of the comment, which looked like it was from maybe the 70s or 80s. I'm also amused by all the special deals local businesses are offering to celebrate. Chicagoland McDonalds will be offering 10 McNuggets for $1.08, and a few stores are offering 10.8% discounts, in honor of the 108 years since the last time the Cubs won the World Series. We can get free cheesecake at Eli's or discounted food at Chipotle. Some of the deals require you to wear Cubs gear (T-shirts, caps, etc) but some are for anyone, whether they forked over dough to prove they're fans or not. Stephen Colbert tweeted his congratulations, adding, "See you in 2124!"

I might have some GURPS tables here someplace....

I like the idea that he means something happens when the spell ends, but I can't think of anything that quite satisfies me. What I'd really like is a surprise, I guess.

Point of order -- we don't actually know whether Dex's fairydoll releases energy when dismissed prematurely. We haven't seen him dismiss one "on-camera" yet. Technically we don't even know for certain whether his fairydolls are persistent, except that no one has said so, and we assume it would be noteworthy enough to mention at some point. We don't actually know much at all about Dex's spell, so we can't assume what power level he's at. For all we know, Dex can summon a dozen fairydolls at once, and they can all shoot little laser beams or swing tiny lightsabers. ;-)

It's listing a 4.5 at Pawnee, OK at 04:26:54 UTC.

pinup Pinup, Tuesday November 1, 2016 (Naughty Librarian Amanda))
CritterKeeper replied to Scotty's topic in EGS Sketchbook Discussion
The "librarian" stereotype includes glasses (preferably on a chain), hair put back (most classically in a bun), and clothing that has a conservstive/serious air to it (note the collar and tie in Amanda's outfit). Often a pencil behind the ear or stuck through the bun. And shushing people, either angrily and harshly if the old mean version, or gently and with an air of tolerating mischief if the younger sexy version. -
pinup Pinup: November 1, 2016 (Sarah the Witch)
CritterKeeper replied to Howitzer's topic in EGS Sketchbook Discussion
There's something that seems a bit off about her face. Can't figure out what, though. Overall it's a great picture, one that could be posted in the Sketchbook section without anyone thinking twice. -
Things That Are Just Annoying
CritterKeeper replied to CritterKeeper's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Every other time I've checked the webcam just outside Wrigley after a game, the big marquee's message section had either the score, or an announcement of "CUBS WIN!" Usually alternating between the two. Tonight, there's been nothing but a succession of ads. A health insurance company, an energy drink, a restaurant...the closest they've gotten to anything related to the game is requests to "Like" them on facebook and follow their twitter account. A lot of people come to the front of the stadium after a big game to get their picture taken in front of that famous sign. You would think they could spare at least one image in ten for the score so people could show what game they were celebrating!- 1,912 replies

Granted. It lands on your foot and you spend the next three months in a cast. The stone replica shatters to tiny pieces on impact. I wish for a new happy catchy Cubs song to supplant "Go Cubs Go!"

I think that was Bartles & James.

Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required)
CritterKeeper replied to ProfessorTomoe's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Yeah, every now and then we get a med where the active ingredient is such a miniscule part of the cost of manufacture that pills cost almost the same for very different doses. Ususally, that means instead of prescribing a 2.5mg tablet, we'll prescribe 5.0mg tablets and have them give a half-tablet. Unfortunately, if a tablet isn't scored then the medication may not be evenly distributed within it, so it's supposedly not a good idea to break tablets which aren't scored. (Still, if this tablet is scored, it might be worth asking your doc whether you can get tablets twice the size and take half-tablets....) -
We will sell no wine before its time?

I'm very sorry for your loss. I hope you find comfort in remembering all the good times you shared.

I have a decent number of memories from the 70s and 80s, and commercials are probably more likely to be stored somewhere simply for having heard them over and over and over....

Trouble with The Dying Cubs Fan is that all but the chorus is spoken-word, which makes it rather difficult to sing together in a group. Or to sing to yourself, for that matter. "You know, the Law of Averages says / anything will happen that can / But the last time the Cubs won the National League Pennant / Was the year we dropped the Bomb on Japan." That verse, at least, will be obsolete next year. Kinda hard to revive it after that. ;-)

And I bet five quatloos that it will be referenced at least three more times before this storyline is over. ;-)

You don't consider spending the entire comic with SarahTedd lying on the floor with Grace crouched over her, to be OT3 fuel??

Maybe the dishwasher is what's been summoning the bad weather, and now that it's behaving itself, OK will experience a permanent climate change making you the next San Diego. ;-)
