2020 Fan Art Contest Winner: Ken Bailey (Plus runners up and one non-entry piece!)
heroesofcrash posted a topic in Heroes Of Crash
http://TheHeroesOfCRASH.com For the second non-consecutive time, the winner is Ken Bailey! It was a tough competition this year, with pieces from lots of talented webcomic artists (whose work you should totally check out!). Many thanks to all our contestants: Ken Bailey, Anna Frohling, Michael VanSlyke, Ave Messer, Corey Kramer, Shaney, and David Fleming! Also, a special shout-out to MaroonDrops, who sent in fan art based on Enticia's backstory for my birthday, knowing full well that it wouldn't be a valid entry for the contest (since she won in this category last year, and the rules say you can't win in the same category two years in a row). Next week: the winner of the Generated Fan Art category! -
TheHeroesOfCRASH.com You can't buy happiness, time lost, or peace of mind... but you can buy nostalgic comics. Close enough! Between a lot of chaotic stuff happening at home and the fact that it's my birthday week, I just did a quick, simple filler featuring me and Cannon. I love working on my comic, but it was fun getting to relax and take a break; I spent time doodling some just-for-fun fan art as a change of pace. I've posted some of them on my Twitter, if you want to check them out! If you're reading this on Saturday, May 19th, there's STILL TIME to submit an entry to my art contest! I'm accepting entries until 11:59 PM (EST), so send in a drawing or video game avatar by then if you want a prize! You can click on the button on my main page for the rules. If you don't submit your entry on time, you could always save it for next year. Or send it to me now; I always love getting fan art, and I'll always post it to my Fan Art Page! And if you haven't sent in any entry at all, do me a favor and like, share, and comment on my comic! That, or do what Cannon did and buy me a Darkwing Duck comic book. I've been on a Darkwing kick ever since that brief Ducktales cameo...

5/25/19 - Contest Winner: Capestagram by MaroonDrops!
heroesofcrash posted a topic in Heroes Of Crash
http://TheHeroesOfCRASH.com I was pleased to get quite a few great entries for my annual Birthday Fan Art Contest this year! I have to admit; I was a little suprised to see the winning entry on the last day of the contest, and from a newcomer, no less! But his entry not only showcased some great art, but it captured Belt Boy's personality. Belt Boy would TOTALLY post a villain capture to social media with puns, emojis, and hashtags! Thanks again, MaroonDrops; for winning my contest, you get to choose the next desktop wallpaper that I draw! Congratulations! I also want to thank the other entrants this year. Due to some continued technical difficulties (my computer tends to freeze off and on during the summer months), I'm still working on the sketch prizes for the runners-up. I've got two down, two to go, so please be patient, folks! Enough about that, though; time to show off the other entries! David Fleming, creator of the totally awesome webcomic Ms. Rocket, drew this picture of Titanium Maiden striking a pose, proving that if anyone knows how to draw a buff, reheaded superheroine with a ponytail, it's him (He's had practice in that very specific category, after all!). Shaney, creator of the webcomic Heroes of the World Beyond (Or HOTWAB for short), drew Belt Boy and his faithful flying fish friend, Caped Cod. I don't see many drawings of BB's piscatory pal, so this was nice to see. Previous winner CD Rudd, creator of the webcomic SailorSun Dot Org, drew his characters and mine attending some sort of gala event. Wouldn't be the first time he's drawn my heroes in formalwear, since they cameoed in the big wedding scene that concluded his comic. And of course, it wouldn't be the annual birthday contest without an entry from longtime fan YouWillNeverKnow, who created some iconic movie posters based on my heroes' costumes. Has any other artist graced my Fan Art page as often? Guess I will never know! Unless I go to the Fan Art page and count, of course. But I don't want to. If you liked these pictures, be sure to visit David, Shaney, and CD Rudd's webcomics! All three of them are in webcomic communities alongside The Heroes Of C.R.A.S.H.; Ms. Rocket and HOTWAB are part of the Collective of Heroes, and SailorSun is part of the 910CMX community. -
TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Belt Boy lets some sensitive info slip. Also, my annual fanart contest begins! Belt Boy's slipping back into breakdown mode again, and his background in panel 3 shows it. That dark cloud is supposed to be reminiscent of the background from his dream at the beginning of this storyline. There's more I want to say about this scene, but I don't want to reveal too much just yet. All I will say is that the thing that Belt Boy has inadvertently foreshadowed is something I've been planning to mention for years...! My birthday's coming up in just three months, and what I'd really, REALLY like is some fan art and fan avatars! My annual birthday contest has begun once again, and there's two ways to submit entries: 1. If you're good at art, then you can draw/paint/sculpt my characters and e-mail it to me at heroesofcrash-at-yahoo-dot-com with the subject "Traditional Fan Art Contest". 2. If you're not good at art (or don't have all the supplies you need), you can create a custom character or avatar in a video game or on a website, so that it looks like one of my characters. You can then send an image to that same e-mail with the subject "Generated Fan Art Contest" EVERYONE who submits a valid entry will get some art in return; the Traditional category winner will decide my next desktop wallpaper, the Generated category winner gets a filler based on their art, and all runners-up will get a surprise sketch! You can check out the FULL rules on my website at http://www.theheroesofcrash.com/ContestRulesAnStuffPage.htm for more details. Make sure that you submit your entry by May 19th, and have fun!

2018 Generated Fan Art Contest Category Winner: "Fight Party" by YouWillNeverKnow
heroesofcrash posted a topic in Heroes Of Crash
http://TheHeroesOfCRASH.com I mentioned last week that YouWillNeverKnow is a longtime fan, having submitted some redesigns of Miss Sunflower and Sister Sledgehammer for this year's traditional category, and having submitted multiple entries in past years' contests. Well, YWNK is such a dedicated fan, that he submitted an entry for BOTH categories this year, and won the Generated Fan Art category! He recreated all 10 of the student cast members using RPG Maker MV! His entry features (Clockwise from bottom left) Belt Boy, Sugar Rush, Unk, Gelatin Boy, Dodge, Titanium Maiden, Jackknife, Dino-Mo, Enticia, and Cannon. Thats quite an adventuring party! However, due to a lack of time (I had some family emergencies this week; don't worry, all is relatively well) and for the sake of simplicity, I only recreated my main three for his reward drawing. Maybe these three are the characters you start off with, and you need to find and unlock the other seven throughout the game...? I tweaked BB, Cannon, and TM's designs from his submission, partly because it's a little hard to make out all the details on their pixelated forms, and because I didn't want to give EVERYONE a blue cape. I made Cannon's into a scarf, which seemed a bit more anime-ninja-esque, and TM's into a neck accessory for her dress. I imagine that BB's some sort of knight or warrior and Cannon's a ninja, but I'm not sure what TM's class is in this drawing, based on her outfit. Perhaps she's an Amazon princess? Nah, if that were the case, she'd have a golden lasso and star-spangled swimsuit armor. If you have any thoughts as to what TM's class is, leave a comment. Perhaps you may even have some ideas as to what the other party members' classes are! Thanks again for the awesome fan art, YouWillNeverKnow! :-D This was quite a birthday treat!-

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com My comic is having its annual contest, and EVERYONE gets some art in return! Either make some art or a game avatar based on my characters to enter! You can read more details by clicking on one of the attached images, and you can view the full rules by clicking on the button on my main page. Give it a try! It's loads of fun! Diligent readers may recognize that one of the two images is my announcement filler from last year, but with a new, introductory, 2-panel filler comic preceding it. Due to some family emergencies (and Valentine's Day), I wasn't able to get much work done on my comic until Friday night. And even then, I had to contend with another family emergency that had me driving around for a few hours until 1am, and some computer issues. But being the faithful comic creator that I am, I managed to stay up all night to finish this filler. True, I may have stayed awake more than 24 hours, but I haven't reached a delirious state of exhaustion or anythKUMQUATHIPPOPOTAMUSBOOGIEOOGIEOOGIE! ... I may need to lie down...

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com I did this contest reminder filler for this week for two reasons. First, it's been a busy and exhausting week at home after work, plus I was having some technical difficulties the other day that kept me from working on the comic as long as I was hoping, so I decided to throw out something a bit shorter. Second, I really want to remind people about this contest. There's little I would like more than fan art for my birthday. It doesn't cost you a cent to send me this present; just the time it takes to make a drawing, a sketch, or even a quick game avatar. And EVERYONE will get a sketch from me in return, or even one of the grand prizes! So check the full rules on my main page and send in your submissions!

5/14/16 - Ten Years of The Heroes of C.R.A.S.H.! theheroesofcrash.com It's hard to believe it, but this is the tenth anniversary of The Heroes of C.R.A.S.H. (Well, technically, it turned ten sometime in January or February, but I'm not sure what day my site actually went online, so I just celebrate it alongside my birthday. But I digress.)! It's been an amazing ten years. While I may not have made any money or gained the notoriety of many of my peers, I can say that it's been fun challenging my brain's creativity lobe to come up with loveable characters, cool stories, and funny jokes on a regular basis. As you can see from my filler, my art and characters have evolved quite a bit in that time. Who knows how they will look ten years from now...? Here's to finding out! I want to thank everyone who's supported me during this time: my family (especially my Mom, whom I got my artistic genes from), my girlfriend Melissa, my friends (Including my computer-fixer Chris and my #1 commenter Gill, who also inspired Cannon and Sugar Rush respectively), all the cool comic artists I've met and chatted with over the years (There's way too many to list - go see my Links page and read their amazing work!), the folks at the 910CMX forums for hosting my own forum (and subsequently helping me to start growing a readership!), many of my teachers (Particularly my patient Junior High and High School art teachers, Mrs. Eichelberger and Pam Grumbach... as well as one IMpatient 5th grade teacher who told me I was too creative. I not only showed her wrong, but I based Battle-Axe Beatrix on her. Heh heh heh...!), and the many cartoonists who inspired me (Once again, too many to list, but I do want to give extra kudos to Kevin Eastman, Peter Laird, Tom Warburton, Butch Hartman, Chuck Jones, Charles Schulz, and Walt Disney). And of course, I couldn't have done it without Belt Boy, Cannon, and Titanium Maiden. Thanks for everything, guys! smile emoticon Anyway, if you want to help me celebrate my comic's tenth anniversary AND my birthday, then you should enter my fan art contest or my fan avatar contest by May 19th! You don't have much time left, so do it A-S-A-Now! Oh, and to all my friends who follow me on social media, here's some bonus factoids about today's tribute: - In case it's not obvious, my characters on the left are drawn in a style meant to emulate that which I used when I first started the comic. Back then I drew with a mouse! I was going to use a mouse once again, but Manga Studio lacks the auto-smoothing capabilities of Flash, so I still used a stylus - Retro Belt Boy lacks a "mullet" in the back, TM's got different eyes, shoes, hair, and abs, and Cannon's got stripes on his shoes. And of course, they have thick, sloppy outlines and diamond-shaped muscles. - I wasn't sure how to fit Cannon in with Belt Boy and TM on the sides of the big number 10 without blocking them, and I wasn't sure how excited he'd get over this milestone... so I just had him sitting in front of the lettering and reading comics obnoxiously. - Cannon's having a greater interest in his comic books than the world around him is largely inspired by Jason Grey from the webcomic The Wotch. Cannon's comic cover resemble's Jason's shirt, which was also used as the logo of the 910CMX forums, which hosts my forum, of course!) - The background is gray, just like in the first HoC desktop and the 5th anniversary picture, albeit with a different gradient look to it. - I still want more fan art, folks! Okay, that may not qualify as a "bonus factoid", but it's still true. Send me your entries!
