Apparently the third edition supplement on Arthurian legend has been used as an actual textbook in some college courses on the subject. GURPS, the game everyone reads, and no one plays.
-
Yep. Also, here's a fun tidbit. Journey to the West, one of the great novels of ancient china and inspiration for more manga, anime, movies, books, etc. than you can count. The first several chapters are dedicated to the origin story of Sun Wukong (known as Sun Goku in Japan) and how he single-handedly beat up all the armies of the underworld and heaven, became immortal several thousand times over, acquired a whole rpg supplement's worth of magical powers and equipment, and was basically only stopped when the author's personal version of God stepped in. And yet he also manages to be one of the most beloved characters in not just the story, but all classic literature. Because the character and the story around him were well-written, the ridiculously op, and pretty selfish and petty, character actually comes of as likable, and the story becomes beloved. Write well, and terrible characters become great ones.

That term has been applied so broadly that it barely has meaning anymore. Dan's giving her some depth, which is good, but it's not going to stop some people from hurling the accusation.

In response to the commentary on Ashley: she's already been told that Grace is an alien-hybrid, connecting that to this shouldn't be to hard.
-
I would be surprised if Susan hadn't mentioned that one of her friends was gender-fluid and might be a girl, it would be a pretty big omission. And Diane's introspection has helped her realize that she's been a bit of a jerk previously, so she's probably trying to be friendly and considerate. Not really surprising it turned out well

(Einstein weeps quietly in a corner) Why do have to be so mean to Einstein, Dan, what did he ever do to you?

{passes out from cuteness} {Random passerby finds me} "I think this guy needs help"

I didn't know science was on the curriculum in ancient Egypt. -
It doesn't even work for ostriches, it's a myth.
-
Nonsense. Clearly she is an Amazon River Dolphin. Adorable (almost to the point of ridiculousness), small(ish), apparently harmless, but it can hunt down and eat pirahnas.
-
Maybe not. Magic is changing to accommodate the reveal, maybe by the time Sarah goes to college this won't be a big secret anymore. "Hi I'm Sarah and this is my immortal fae magic tutor/friend's great fairy godmother/ancestor of another friend, Pandora." "Hi."

Did everyone just forget that Dan already made a comic explaining this? I mean, I know that was more than a decade ago, but still.
-
Perhaps the destruction of the "Diamond" has permanently released him from the spell. After all, it existed solely to keep him alive so he could stop whatever the Diamond created, so now that it is destroyed the spell is no longer necessary. Maybe he'll end up working for the DGB.

Does anyone else think that Dan read or anticipated the conclusion jumping from the Wednesday comic discussion and wrote this to snark about it?

Ellen's face in the last panel is a perfect visual representation of our response to this comic, and I would very much like to see a frontal view of it.
-
In this famous comic Edward Verres exposits that wizards can learn other peoples spells after they awaken, so she'd have to awaken first. Seers are a special case that he didn't know about at the time but we have no reason to suspect Ashley will be able to learn other's spells untl she awakens.
-
I'd bet on the fact that when Ellen says that Nanase would demolish half the state looking for her, she's barely exaggerating, and Arthur knows it. I don't know, but I hope it didn't bite them. Turning into a house every full moon sounds inconvenient.
-
Do you mind if I use this quote on the Tv Tropes heartwarming page for the comic?
-
http://www.egscomics.com/egsnp.php?id=766 Why was Ashley running up to Kitty anyway? She doesn't have any transformation powers.

Or maybe he knew that kind of thinking was going to happen and foolishly believed he could put a stop to it. He was wrong of course, this is the internet, where saying "not this" will always result in someone thinking "it must be this".

When the golem woke up, it was asking about a library. Presumably it remembers what happened to the library and how it ended up so heavily damaged.

Except we have been told that "Magic wants to be known of and used, but only by a relative few." and that its goals are "extremely loose with inhumanly neutral objectives". I don't think there's any chance that magic will completely cut humanity off. It doesn't care whether you use it to kill people or save them, so long as it's objectives are met, and being used by humanity is one of those objectives. As Elliott said "If magic wants to keep playing, it's going to have to compromise eventually"

"The Spellbooks are difficult to understand?" Ahhaha, ahahahahaha, ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (gets dragged off in straightjacket)

Susan would probably hammer me for this, but she is adorable in that last panel. Also, kind of funny that her hair is a reversed version of the pattern that appeared in this strip
