I meant, is the affinity genetic still, or is it purely based on name? As you just said the fact that both her first and last names are cat related strengthened the chance of her getting the affinity, it's completely possible that if she was named Jane, she wouldn't have the affinity, so it can't be an affinity she was born with. The affinity can be genetic and just strengthened by first name. Or the rules for genetics are bend similarly as on Discworld, where even adoption passes genetic traits As was said, Rhoda and Catalina has never gotten that serious at the current NP time, unless kissing was enough to trigger it and I would hardly call that getting busy. We can speculate that strength of emotion is not related to where are they touching, but it does seem forced. As I said, I would assume some event which was important for Rhoda but not important for main 8 enough to be shown in comics did it. (Hmmm ... will we see the event in some flashback as part of current storyline?) But which immortal would have the motivation? There are factors to consider with Nanase though, the fact that her aura invokes royalty, the fact that her family has a long history of magic users, and the fact that her aunt is also an S rank (or higher) talent, while we don't know the circumstances of how Noriko awakened, the fact that Adrian had apparently seen her potential in high school probably meant that she too awakened at a young age. Maybe not as young as Nanase did but not far off. I think Adrian is able to recognize talent even before awakening and he might either helped her awaken or asked Pandora to do it.

They're technically not vampires in the sense that media has portrayed them, they're aberrations, vampire is just easy to understand because they're feeding habits are vampiric. And they've basically given up their humanity for near immortality. I know. So, alive, but not human. While Adrian was telling him that, it's not "supposed" - that possibility didn't occurred to him, and noone advised it to him until too late. He was villain of the story line. Yes, he might return as not-a-villain, but he still was villain of the story line. And who knows if all previous copies created by diamond were truly monsters ... Hmmm ... first I though it's the angel form which makes her so good-hearted, or possibly some of her new senses could tell her Abraham was misguided. But it's possible that's how Nanase behaves normally, Ellen didn't shown any of that. Anyway, they were not ABLE to kill NotTengu until he was unconscious, and killing him after that would really seem too much. (Classical method for this situation is to pretend to give the villain chance to retaliation and then kill him in self-defense.) I don't see how someone from the Main Eight would get to kill Magus. And I hope Sirleck will be killed eventually.

I greatly prefer that to the 90s opposite extreme of guns constantly blaring and no leaving anything behind alive for any reason. That's at least more realistic. Although, obviously, what I would prefer is some sort of middle way. And we hardly knew him. Also, not sure if vampires are still considered alive (although they are not undead in EGS, so maybe yes.) We currently have two examples of human villains who survived their defeat: Abraham - who would hopefully really end up with parts of head buried in ground if he wouldn't promise - and NotTengu, who survived his fall but not because of "heroes" going out of their way to help him. And most importantly, we don't have ANY villain surviving defeat twice. So, so far good. Despite what we are saying about bad Tom, Rich or Larry, any of main cast killing them would be overkill.

Why? Pandora didn't give spellbook to Justin, so why to Rhoda? Yeah, I not sure how that would apply to Rhoda though. I guess it depends on what, if anything, happened to Rhoda just prior to her noticing that she could do something different. As we found with Justin, one could be awakened without knowing it, mind you that was done by an Immortal and so would be very subtle, but I wouldn't be surprised if natural awakening via meeting the energy requirements for it is hardly noticeable too. I think I was already explaining my theory that you can be only naturally awakened by emotion, but how strong the emotion needs to be changes based on energy requirements ... the closer you are to filling it, the weaker emotion is needed. Unfortunately, it doesn't match with Jerry's saying that angst-based awakenings are usually due to death of loved ones ... but I still like it. According to most of game producing companies, this is still considered stealing. Although the legal term is violation of copyright. Also, she would be leaving electronic track. Nah. I agree that this is also good reason, but I'm sure avoiding boredom is the main one. Small, timid, shy ... fits perfectly. Who would you expect to be S-rank, Diane? The difference between affinity and yearning is that affinity is in your blood (DNA) and therefore you first have affinity and then personality, while yearning comes later, after the personality. On the other hand, height is also influenced by DNA, so it's possible she inherited both Or that. Yes, that would make sense: sometimes you get what is the cause and what is the effect wrong ... Also, yes: it's possible that after the experience with Rhoda Pandora started looking better ... Must've been hard to predict she will be named Bobcat. Mr. Bobcat and Mrs. Bobcat definitely spent lot of time on that She would likely have the affinity even if her first name would be Jane, although Catalina strengthened it. We don't KNOW how smooth and seamless were their awakenings. They were probably less dramatic than Susan's, because that would be pretty obvious to be related to magic (although Rhoda likely wouldn't know what happened anyway), but, say, if Justin was angry about something and decided to vent it on punching bag and ended smashing it through the wall, he would likely consider it close to normal for anime martial arts training. Of course, with Justin awakened by Pandora, it might've really be totally smooth and seamless ... but finding good example with Rhoda would be harder. What strong emotions could she have? Considering Catalina didn't see her naked yet ... hmmm ... did she forget her homework and got shame-based awakening? Justin still had the mark AFTER the fight.

Are you implying Rich will be killed? Yeah ... anyone we know being killed would surprise me a lot. Damien was, sure, but he was really special case. I just hope EGS won't became as bad as Batman or Superman with "no killing for any reason" ...

Considering Pandora is able to "just know" things very hard for other people to find out when looking for them ... It seems her second spell was the third one I wouldn't be surprised if her second spell allowed resizing boobs but she didn't tried yet. She, however, mentioned that "it's easier when only changing height", suggesting she's at least partially aware she can either resize or change height. Hmmmm ... like, she marked her with affinity based mark without noticing it's affinity? That's really EXTREMELY low level of attention ... The second option would cast doubt on her assessment that Sarah is D-rank talent ... There are likely other emotions capable of awakening you. The whole rank system that Pandora uses is in reference to many video games from Japan that have achievement systems that go by rank, low to high being E-D-C-B-A and then S rank being the absolute best. Basically Pandora's making it clear that despite her age, she's hip with the pop culture of today's youth. She probably spend some time reading manga, watching anime, playing video games. She tried EVERYTHING to avoid boredom. I imagine she stole new game, plays one level, then throw it away because she already knows how to beat the final boss. I think the rank is about potential, not current level. So, if you are D-rank talent, you will never get C-rank, but by working hard you can get better than lazy B-rank. She can even be "just" B. But even if she keeps summoning Nase, I think it's nowhere near Nanase casting spells as fast as possible, because she won't get so much experience from Nase just hanging around. Also, we really have just few points on graph, so predicting how many spells she may have and what it says about her rank is premature. It would still be funny if she get multiple new spells.

It feels like Tedd being marked again: growing number of reasons why it makes sense but important counterargument which turned out to be false. In Tedd's case, mark spell turned out to not count against his "never get a spell of his own". In Rhoda case, turns out finding out if someone is awakened is harder than we though, because even Pandora can overlook it.
  8. NP Wednesday November 9, 2016

So she DID awakened and Pandora didn't noticed. Also, interesting information: the size change WAS supposed to be S-rank spell just like Sarah's. Would change few past discussion. Including the discussion about Rhoda becoming unable to cast her spell when the magic clog is removed, although obviously with her already being awakened that can't happen. Hmmm ... does Rhoda actually have affinity for this kind of spells or was it still just yearning? Does she really have three spells now or is the number even bigger? (With the spells being very similar, hard to say probably ...)

If it was a Thursday evening, there probably would have been mention of him not attending classes on Friday, though if it happened Friday, they wouldn't likely find out until Monday. Not necessary. I mean, teachers would probably notice, but it might not get to main 8. Depending on his family situation and previous behaviour, him not showing in school for one day wouldn't necessarily cause immediate criminal investigation. Eventually, yes. But first they will ask people who saw him last. And Susan is hammer queen - sure, she is known to hammer people, but those people shows no signs of being injured later. There may be lot of other girls who hate him (like Ashley), they would likely go over all of them and not just the last one. It is possible that after asking Mrs. Pompoms where her daughter is they wouldn't be so eager to ask Susan first, especially if they can just ask other girls but need to get court order to get over Mrs. Pompoms. Example timeline: they started by asking Tom's family. They were unavailable and it was already evening when they contacted them and verified they don't know where Tom is either. They went over Tom's friend and few other people who saw him last, try to map his movement. On Saturday, assuming they even bother to work on Saturday but I guess it can be question of life or death so maybe yes, they try to contact Susan by showing up on Pompoms residence while Susan is with Tedd. Mrs. Pompoms give them piece of her mind and she might mention she went visit one of her friends but even if she knows the name she likely doesn't know where Tedd lives. So they decide to try later and pursue other alternatives meanwhile ... like Ashley, who is already on date with Elliot when they arrive, so another try later (alternatively, they try to locate her in mall and arrive when she already left and get caught up investigating griffin).
  10. NP, Monday October 31, 2016

I think Bad Tom's last appearance was on Thursday, the day before the card tournament. So roughly 3 days. ... ok, feels longer Like ... years ... Still, it is possible Andrea killed another vampire in Friday. After he killed Bad Tom on Thursday evening. Unlikely, but possible. Also, while we know Identity takes three days, it could also started Monday, so might be Wednesday.
  11. Story, Wednesday November 2, 2016

More likely but still cause of concern "they will know exactly who you are and where you are".
  12. NP, Monday October 31, 2016

Susan didn't needed any. She wasn't ready to get together with Elliot anyway. Those other vampires, either the ones which Andrea killed before or the ones still "alive", on the other hand ... we have no information about how many people they eaten.
  13. Story Monday November 7, 2016

    1) Don't bother copying the comment. The threads will be merged, not deleted. 2) Don't give up. Especially if you have tags and the other thread doesn't. Maybe you will be lucky and your thread will be chosen. (Although, usually it's the thread without tags which is chosen. Maybe because it's first, as the creator wasn't losing time with setting tags?) Yeah, we need more Space Mercenary training, basic stuff like this shouldn't take so long to remember.
  14. Story Monday November 7, 2016

http://www.egscomics.com/?id=2272 Tedd, don't give up: you have no reason to trust the emissary of magic either! Also, Sarah is right: it's overkill. As soon as she get over the blushing she will be spamming the spell as fast as possible anyway. And seems that Grace's memory got better. It's just that what Sarah said reminded her the dream, or did she saw Pandora arguing with Emissary and it was hard to forget?
  15. Story: Friday November 4, 2016

Maybe not, but Sarah does need to use the spell frequently, I can't see her not trying it to see what happens. The missing element will be Tedd and Grace checking if they can brace against it. Also, her next spellcast might be already offpanel. .... well, we will see. Any minute ...
  16. NP Mon Nov 7, 2016

So, no bag-of-holding pockets, she really just resized herself ... except apparently with different spell ... It definitely seems like a separate spell from the "resizing" spell that her Mark granted--she's taking on proportions more appropriate to her new height as opposed to simply a scaled-up version of her regular self. This will help greatly in terms of "not attracting attention", since she will simply look like a tall girl instead of looking like an enlarged short girl. Dan said that scaling her up to be this tall would have meant a 75% increase in volume, so that means just over 20% increase in height, which would put a normally-five-feet-tall Rhoda just above six feet--tallish but not so tall as to be odd. Anyway, if this is a separate spell, then Rhoda had Awakened without Pandora realizing it--and the fact that Rhoda knows that she can do this means that she's cast this particular spell before, so her Awakening was not today. It technically MIGHT be just different application of her mark spell but yeah, it seems more likely to be different spell, especially considering she KNEW that this will resize clothes but wasn't sure about the spell used on Catalina. So, seems she awakened. Which means she was resizing things A LOT. And that Pandora really underestimated her when she didn't even looked.
  17. Story: Friday November 4, 2016

Probably not. Tedd just SAID what will happen if the "brace" is successful, there is no reason to try it - or, at least no reason to try it on-panel. The fact that me and you are curious about it don't count.
  18. It's not desperate. Having rental guard was requirement from movie producing studios. They just weren't specific enough about the job description. (Agree with the flash-forward to time Susan got more confidence part.)
  19. Of course if it's green tea is it gun powder style or loose leaf? And what of smoked teas? ... you think it was tea leaves which caused that effect? Obviously, it's some exotic mineral which the Tea just concentrated while the asteroid is spreading it.

Diane was probably the only wild card of the four of them, she wasn't supposed to drink the punch, but if Jerry hadn't interfered, she would have been enchanted as well. Then again Jerry's interference was something Not_Tengu could not have predicted. There was nothing "wild card" on her. Jerry's interference was unpredictable and without him, she would be sure to drink. He apparently had been observing Susan long enough to know the right things to say when he first approached her. Of course it wouldn't have been hard in Susan's case considering her reputation as Hammer Queen and the review show, but still, I'd say he did it with all the girls he dated before Susan. He was probably only choosing girls who were relatively easy to target. He only tried Susan because despite her reputation, she was vulnerable. It might've worked if not for Justin.
  21. Seems Sarah is not only one who wanted to be ... taller. (I hope Sarah was affected too. Wait ... if she wouldn't, she would totally get watches for this form and claim she was.) Also, I'm not sure which social media would require first image. Linkedin? I think third picture is respectable enough for most social media. Not speaking about the non-respectable pictures people post on social media too, sometime "worse" than the fifth. (Worse from the respectability point of view. I consider it great image.)
  22. NP, Monday October 31, 2016

While Not_Tengu would be stalker material, I don't think he ever personally stalked Nanase. Indirectly, looking at interviews and such, sure, but I don't think that would tell him enough. On the other hand, he couldn't predicted they discover Diane is Susan's sister either, of course. I wouldn't be surprised if bad Tom tried stalking her to find out this.
  23. If you mean "Ellen would be affected despite Elliot never kissed her" if the epidemic would spread, yes, obviously, Elliot kissed Nanase and Nanase kissed Ellen. Hmmm ... wait. What if the epidemic moved in time normally, but with time zero being not now, but Elliot's awakening? That would exclude all Nanase's boyfriends, in fact likely Nanase herself ... affected would be Sarah, Carol, Ashley, Catalina, from her Rhoda, ... from Sarah likely Tedd and Grace ... and that would likely be all. Ok, too boring.

Being out of continuity doesn't mean they never lived in Moperville, Lisa could have got her law degree from Moperville College. Occam's razor says them living somewhere else is more probable. It would actually make sense if they would comment the events "from future", as in "the events in comics would few years later became target of investigation and/or preparing documentary movie and they are involved in that". It would then make sense they moved to Moperville for that. But it was directly said it's happening out of continuity and they are communicating with current versions of characters, so, no: the Amanda and Lisa who are doing the Q&A are not in Moperville because they are not in the same universe and/or plane of reality. If not for Amanda being referred related to the radio-in-clocks, we could say she doesn't live in the same universe AT ALL. WITH that reference, if we take it as canon, she (her canon in-continuity version) can be anywhere. Possibly in Europe
  25. NP, Monday October 31, 2016

It's a common sense though, Ellen agreed to abide by Mama Kitsune's conditions for being able to go to the party and Nanase asked that Ellen keep to that agreement, if Ellen went against that, I wouldn't blame Nanase for being mad. That was actually handled well: They talked and Ellen even joked about it. The dangerous bit would be if Ellen stopped behaving naturally and started trying to predict what might make Nanase mad instead. That's how abusive relationship works. Either she exaggerated or she didn't realized it wasn't really about hair. Yes, it seem that way so far. Still, I think that correctly predicting if and why Ellen would or wouldn't be drinking on that party would require immortal. Especially considering Nanase's "I suddenly regret agreeing to no alcohol".
