With Dan's commentary, it would seem that Kevin is a more recent creation, rather than an inert artifact from a previous system. He not only knows modern English, but also gets Elizabethan English significantly wrong AND thinks the 'Ye Olde English' sounds sophisticated and 'mystical.'
As for why Kevin, a wizard training device, would be considered useless (considering that even simple and benign wands can be used to awaken magic), he seems rather obnoxious and temperamental. The DGB probably just figured no one would be able to put up with Kevin long enough to get any use out of him.

I think Kevin can only teach magic to wizards (and only wizards), he can't cast any magic himself, except perhaps in the process of teaching his apprentice (in which case either he doesn't have enough power to harm the Golem or he knows Ashely isn't ready to learn such spells and isn't willing or able to bend the rules on when he can use magic).
As for the magpie, first of all we don't know it's going after the Golem - it could be going after a fourth, as yet unseen magical artifact.
Secondly, while all these other artifacts activating around it might be what triggered it to act, it's also possible that it had been intentionally shut down and the magic released by the destruction of the Dewitchery Diamond turned it back on.
In fact, I suspect that all these artifacts activating now is only related to the Magic Change in the sense that there are more potentially functional artifacts in the facility now than there were earlier in the day; I think it is the energy from the destruction of the diamond that's actually turning everything on. (Which means the same thing would have happened on a smaller scale even if Magus had done his resurrection trick before the Change. Pandora probably knew about this and didn't tell him, hoping to watch the fireworks; she'll be disappointed she missed it.)

I'm reviving my theory that Helena and Demetrius are the "friends" that Edward enlisted in the investigation of Pandora and her "Egg/Hawk" warning.
Magus' arrival into the main universe was several months before Susan and Nanase's trip to France, Helena and Demetrius were chasing Magus, the whole "you do not belong here!" stuff would have been because the nature of Pandora's warning gave the impression that Magus was a threat that needed to be dealt with. Of course Helena and Demetrius would have been taking the "shoot first ask questions later" but if they had reason enough to believe that asking wouldn't get anything...

    April 23 in EGS History:
2002 - Nanase wins her match with Elliot, and celebrates with a kiss, much to Sarah's shock.
2003 - Tedd goes into a long spiel about why he's a pervert.
2005 - Justin has a disturbing dream about Elliot turning him into a girl.
2008 - Tedd declares his willingness to snatch skirts to help Susan, while Elliot imagines kicking Damion off a cliff.
2010 - Catalina buys plastic Mjolnir.
2012 - Tedd tells Sarah that she doesn't mind if Sarah takes a peek at her (in male or female form) in private; she also wants Sarah to have the option to publicly humiliate her.
2013 - Sarah tells Susan that she and Elliot broke up; the Susan/Elliot shippers rejoice (one in comic, no less).
2014 - Justin imagines George with pink hair.
2015 - Ashley makes her case against labels.

My best guess: it's a combination of being desperate and Justin having meant he wasn't strongly attracted to Tedd rather than he wasn't attracted to Tedd even the tiniest bit. The new haircut might have something to do with it too; Justin probably finds it more attractive than Tedd's old haircut.

It's a bit cliche, but I still think the best thing to say in a situation like this is, "Meow!"

We definitely can't judge threats and morality until we have a lot more info, but my current read on the situation is that Kevin is abrasive and a bit insulting but he means well, while the Golem is confused and upset but probably not malicious. The problem being that the Golem looks built for strength and/or battle, so if it feels threatened or is inclined to fall back on violence in uncertain situations, things could get messy. I don't think Kevin is an immediate threat unless he somehow escalates the situation or gives Ashley a dangerous spell he doesn't have time to properly teach her to use.
It's possible he's able to change shape, though in that case he had to have just done so before appearing before Ashley, which raises the question how he knew to do so and why he bothered.
On the other hand, an incompetent magic teacher has a lot of potential for comedy, so I wouldn't be surprised if this was leading up to Ashley somehow getting to keep Kevin (or being stuck with him, depending on how you look at it) leading to wacky hijinks as he tries to teach her magic.

I can't recall having any arguments with my characters, but that's partially because I generally just let them do whatever they want, and partially because when I do have a particular outcome in mind I'm not afraid to go back in time and play around with the course of history (i.e., rewrite/revise) until I find one with the results I want. (Although changing history does have it's risks; it's amazing how easy it is to create plot holes that way...)

I don't think "annoyed" or "embarrassed" are the main reason Susan is blushing right now.  Something else starting with an "a"....

Also, again, it presupposes that radio will be the go-to method of communication of any sapient species. Humanity has used radio transmissions for only about a century. It remains possible that some technological development will supersede radio as means of communication at some point. Tightly focused directional transmissions of some kind might become possible or desirable. This is not to say that listening for radio is futile, merely that there might be different things to look for as well that we simply have not thought of as yet.
The Freefall webcomic posited another possibility to look for. Mind you, personally I am with Winston on that one.

Oh Lord. I just realised. Kevin is a teacher. He is a teacher from an older system of magic. He can single-handedly revive an entire system of magic that has been dead for centuries. Or maybe single-wandedly.

I had totally forgotten about Elliot's realizations about his sexuality and gender. That's weird, considering I so seldom (read: otherwise never) see characters who are agender like me, at least not in any way that is ever established. (Well, these days I say "nongender," i.e. no gender identity, because I've gotten sick of the fact that "agender" refers to both a gender identity and a lack of a gender identity, and the two aren't actually even similar.) Then again, there's plenty of characters that we don't really know to be male or female, where we're just assuming.

(On a side note of being a nerd nobody asked for, "inflammable" originates as "inflame-able," i.e. "able to be inflamed." Then language evolved and people started dropping the "in" sometimes, because it sounds like a negative prefix, and now use of "inflammable" is discouraged because it confuses people about what you're trying to say.)

That's actually one of the images I had in mind when I said I'd rather see Susan herself instead of some sort of distorted version of Susan.  Going out in FV5 or some other "enhancement" is like going out in a costume, putting a barrier between those seeing you and your real self.  In this NP, we get to see Susan as she really is, and that makes it more intimate even though she's only taking off one item of clothing instead of all of them.

Pretty much the same thing for me, except it was my father who was the alcoholic, and he managed to stop before it completely ruined his life - though it took a number of tries over several years (not to mention a lot of help from Alcoholics Anonymous). As those years constituted a large chunk of my childhood, it made a big impression on me.

Mph. As a kid I never did see the attraction. I was the social outcast and responded in the very mature way of taking pride in never doing what the other kids thought was cool. Drinking was one of these things.
Also, my mother was an alcoholic and drank enough to ruin four lives. This led me to a conclusion I have not once had any reason to change. If I don't begin, I don't have to stop.

You need to have some manner of realistic claim or the title will not mean anything. I, for example, am an actual Time Lord. I am the undisputed ruler of October 13, 1982.

Indeed, given how great an influence Grace has had on Tedd, and that General Shade-tail likely still shares all but one parent with Grace and their meeting may have been equally momentous, it's quite possible this Shade-tail is meeting some of the needs Elliot fills and some of the needs Grace fills for our Tedd.

Dan has said before that Lord Tedd didn't actually kill any other Tedds. I don't remember if he said that Lord Tedd failed at killing them, or if Dan implied or stated that Lord Tedd wasn't trying to kill anyone after all, but we do know that much of what we think we know about Lord Tedd is "based on incomplete and false information".
My personal theory is that Lord Tedd was trying to make his other selves stronger. Thus weak Tedds would be "killed" in the sense that the would cease to be weak Tedds and start being strong Tedds.

    April 9, 1940.
Denmark is invaded by the Nazis and is taken completely by surprise. The Danish air force, consisting of only a few fixed-undercarriage fighter planes, is destroyed on the ground. The occupying forces quickly overrun all defences. The Danish government, which had relied on its declaration of neutrality, decides that the situation is hopeless and orders all its armed forces to stand down. The Luftwaffe drops fliers on all major Danish cities, stating the Nazi intent to 'protect' Denmark from British aggression. Five years of occupation follow where the Nazis steadily tighten the screws, culminating in 1943 with first the arrest and internment of all Danish police officers and then the application of the Final Solution to all Danish Jews, LGBTQ, disabled, Rom, mentally ill, suspected Communists, the 'racially impure' as well as anyone the Nazis thought looked at them funny. Happily some German diplomat took his life in his hands by sending out advance warning. Thus many slated for the camps managed to escape to Sweden, by a hair's breadth avoiding incarceration, starvation, unimaginable brutality and probable mass executions or alternately being worked to death. Denmark as a whole suffered a massive national trauma that it took decades to live down and to this day we fly our flags at half mast on April the Ninth.
We never called it the day that would live in infamy. There was no need. It managed that fine on its own.

    April 9, 2018.
Today in history, many people will continue to argue that those poor misunderstood Nazis have a right to freedom of speech so they may promulgate their message of hatred, mass murder and dictatorship. By some strange happenstance, these defenders tend not to be on the abovementioned list of those slated for the extermination camps.
