Something along the lines of referring to someone as "Your boss" or "Your master/mistress" or "your head of department," rather than referring to them as a possession, then.

I agree, that's insulting to all cats. Cats doesn't have owners, they have servants. But in this case my guess is that Rhoda is Catalina's most favored servant...

I don't think that Mr. Verres is transphobic, at least not to the degree where I'd actually call it transphobic. I fully believe Mr. Verres loves his child as much as a father can. I've outed myself on this forum before, so I don't terribly mind saying again that I am intersex. Now, maybe I am projecting some, but I feel like I know exactly where Tedd is right now (at least with regards to family and who he can talk to). I know that my parents love me unconditionally, but there were a lot of awkward moments while I was still figuring things out. My parents will, and have, supported me in anything I will do, but at the same time they are not who I turn to for gender advice.
Incidently, i recently learned I can't give more than ten likes a day.

Wrong kind of pepper for pepper spray. I could use the crushed red pepper packages that pizza places give out with delivery to get the right sort. Of course the Scoville scale would be way to low for "weapons grade" but close enough. Plus chunks of stuff, any kind of stuff, in the eye isn't a good thing.
So, every body send me your snail mail address and I'll get right on this project. I'll be telling you how many packets to toss in your face as needed.

My college roommate had an old Volkswagen Rabbit Diesel that was nearly dead long before he brought it to the campus.
When the inevitable happened, he called home and told his mother, "Mom, the rabbit died."

That holodeck was way to capable. If I'm not mistaken there was at least one instance when someone managed to build a transmitter on the holodeck and used that to send information from the Voyager to an enemy faction. If a holographic representation of a subspace transmitter can send an actual signal it makes me wonder if it would be possible to blow the ship up with a holographic bomb...
Then there was the episode where someone was playing with classic villains from literature in some adventure setting. When they were summoned to the bridge the simulation wasn't paused, as it usually would be, but kept running. What was worse was that for some reason one of the villains, I think it was Moriarty but that's just a guess, actually saw them call the portal and exit. This was enough for these supposedly super intelligent villains to figure out that not only were they simulations, but that there was a starship outside the holodeck, and that they could actually use portable hologenerators, once developed for the ships doctor,to allow them to leave the holodeck. Being programed to be villains they were of course planing on taking over the entire ship.
Those holodecks are ridiculously dangerous.

I think I agree that the result would depend on whether Sarah meant to see the car segment as it was scanned, or to pull an intact car through. If she sticks with what's scanned, the cut-off point of the car would be a cross-section, like a split dog model in anatomy class. If she tries to pull the whole car with the intent of pulling an intact car through, the missing section would be based on her imagination and expectations, but it would not be based on reality, because the spell doesn't have any data from beyond the cut-off.

No. A flying hall monitor would interfere with the ability of the students to see the murals.

Dear Big Fashion,
Regarding your advertisement in the January 18, 2017 EGS NP comic.
Please stop.
Outerwear without the ability to carry something other that itself and the person wearing it is a waste of fabric.

Well, I though that it was World War II which proved the need to train infantry to not stay packed, but maybe French soldiers were just not well trained. Or, their training wasn't up-to-date.
I'm sure no grunt soldier would object if that "stomping" was reduced to taking prisoners. But, yes, so far it seems that even after cybernetic, air and armored attack, enemies don't tend to give up.
But in modern war, it will rarely come to this rapidly moving unit being running soldiers. If you need speed, you will choose something faster ... if you HAVE any choice.
Obviously.
No stupidity is so bad there wouldn't be example for it.
As a grunt soldier, you will need to requalify or wait for walking mechas.
I have a strong suspicion it will take lot of time before the boot camps would be upgraded to reflect the reality of current war. After all, the main purpose of boot camp isn't to learn how to march in cold wet terrain ; it's to learn to follow orders even if they are from idiots.

Syd: Sharks, Alligator
Max: Snapping turtle, Hippo, Orca
I think I have reached a point that between xkcd, Girl Genius, EGS, The Whiteboard, Schlock Mercenary, and Grrl Power I can reply to almost any thing with a comic and be close to on topic.

Cpt. Obvious got a reaction from CritterKeeper in EGS Pinup for 2016, December 17th (Carol and Heidi)
It would be an interesting twist if it turned out that Susan had been sleep summoning the fairies, and can't get the hang of doing it consciously... I can also imagine a scene where her mother comes by her room just to take a look at her sleeping daughter, something most parents tend to do at least a few times once they start to realize that their children are growing up and one day not to far into the future they'll move out. Anyway I can just imagine the scene as she sees her daughter apparently having fallen asleep while playing with some dolls, only to realize that one of the dolls flutters it's wings, yawns and turns over cuddling up to Susan and appears to fall asleep...

Cpt. Obvious got a reaction from The Old Hack in Story Monday December 5, 2016
Well, unless someone had reason to doubt the birth certificate is authentic is has probably not been scrutinized. Mr. Verres said he or the DGB had investigated the friends of Tedd, and he knew that according to records Susan didn't have a twin sister. I doubt that they would bother to investigate other kids born at the same hospital within a day or so unless there had been something indicating that they might be related to the birth of Susan. So as far as we know Diane's birth records hasn't really been investigated making it possible that they may be falsified. They could even be the official records from the parallel universe that's been slipped into the system.

Well, technically it is specifically protected by the courtesy rules because they ban discrimination on a religious basis, but it isn't the faith as much as the working actively towards making the world as we know it end that is making me gun shy. If I let the world end on my watch, the other mods will never let me hear the end of it.

Did something similar back in the nineties. I went directly from a huge wedding to a LPC concert in black suit and tie. Being the only one in the audience dressed like this I drew quite a lot of confused stares. Didn't stop me from dancing my ass off. Not being all that sober probably helped me shake loose, though it couldn't do anything to improve my dance or to keep the others safe. Still I had a good time and I don't remember seriously hurting anyone.

Can't help but wondering if a 40,000 volt taser bullwhip could tickle Voltaire. I would really like seeing Jinx chasing Voltaire with his whip, zapping him each time he tries to escape. It would be deliciously satisfying if they managed to find a weakness that allowed them to capture an overconfident immortal using a relatively low tech non magical solution.

And then it becomes a battle of the mind for Cat as she desperately tries to resist the cat reflex of pouncing on the soft, warm and snuggle friendly mounds that is moving so hypnotically...
Or she becomes motion sick just like all the cats I've tried to travel with. And that would certainly not be a pleasant experience for either of them.

Several years ago, The Animal Planet cable channel came up with the idea of offering counterprogramming during the Super Bowl, in the form of letting a bunch of puppies loose to play in a room decorated to look like a football field. The only human to appear on-camera was a guy dressed as a referee whose job was to clean up any Oopses from the puppies. At half-time, they switched from puppies to kittens for a few minutes. I believe it was one of the highest-rated competitors for the first few years. :-D
Unfortunately, someone decided to start messing with a good thing. Instead of just watching puppies play, now we get biographies and stats for the puppies, and the view jumps around from camera to camera instead of just holding still and letting us watch the damn puppies.
