Well, for start, spin doctors which have more knowledge about modern media (especially social ones) than Shakespeare.

To be fair, I don't really feel that Shakespeare can be blamed for his lack of knowledge about modern media.

Not unless he show up on job interview falsely claiming he has that knowledge.

(Also, technically, the detector made the same sound even before being pointed to anyone ... probably has some moving parts inside and the sound is them being moved.)

And I just noticed the "wand" has what looks like a battery compartment cover on its back in that page.

Possibly, there was someone like Grace visited by Dream Wizard who had the last opportunity to stop the reset but failed.

Interesting thought.  Wonder what sort of person Magic was really trying to get the attention of that time?

Yeah, that wand is tech based, but it's mainly a scanner so there might not be any actual magic to it, just components sensitive to magic.

I imagine there's some actual magic in the wand for the precision of the readings. While the only part of the readout that is legible to us reader is the big "YUP," Edward is able to get enough information to determine how often Elliot and Ellen needed to burn off excess energy to prevent mishaps.

Maybe the wand's noise comes from converting magical signals to technological signals in an energy-efficient but data-lossless manner.

LOOKS. Can be something else than battery, although battery is most likely ... and I'm not sure what other replaceable parts might be needed in magic analyzer wand.

There seem to be some sort of tiny text under that YUP. It's possible that the wand uses technology to scroll through multiple pages of that text on its small display. ALSO, I suspect that Edward scanned both Ellen and Elliot and then read the text for them ... suggesting some sort of memory storage.

But yes I agree that the actual reading of magic needs to be done by magic - or Uryuom-based technically magic technology, but if it would be Uryuom-based, it would recognize Uryuoms.

Although based on when the wand makes sound, I would expect it uses small magic part which needs to be rotated by electromotor for some reason :)

There might be a magic prism or something that's spun inside and some sort of IR beam passes through it, which enhances the beam to detect stuff like a person's aura (like Luke's sight) as well as stuff like rate of energy recovery and buildup.

That's obviously possibility, but it's not clear WHY it would need to be spun. Unless it's something like autofocus ... but autofocus wouldn't be making sound all the time, would it?

I Dunno, maybe if the prism is multifaceted with each facet cut differently so that the beam isn't one continuous wavelength as the prism spins, it could allow for greater detail in the scans?

To put it in better terms, the wand would be something like a multispectral scanner.

multispectral-and-hyperspectral-scanning

The prism would be the spectral filter. Everything else in that could be adapted for the analysis and display of info regarding magic. The prism would be spinning at a fast rate so the camera would need to be taking snapshots just as fast and the wand seems to process it and display it all in near real time. Maybe the prism is also the camera?

The wand's "noise" is a rapid series of "Clicks"

The analysis wand is more akin to Sonar than Radar or Photography.

No, the clicks are Edward turning it on and off. The "Vrrrmmm" must be some sort of growl noise, something like motor - compare this youtube video labeled vrrrmmm. Nothing like sonar. (Ok, Dolphin sonar sounds closer to vrrr but still differently)
