Warren Zevon and R.E.M covering Prince. There were parts of the late 80's and early 90's that just freaking rocked. And rocked freaking hard.

I should wrap this up by saying that Mrs. Prof did *not* just snack. She dug in heartily.

I'm just wondering how the secret was kept when everybody who knew about the secret was gone.
Sex is a pretty big thumb on the scale of behavior.  Elves are not going to say to themselves "I can't have kids so I just won't bother having the sex that would have the side effect of showing me I CAN have kids."  It's going to be more like: "WOO HOO!, No consequences!".  With no shadowy enforcers maintaining the lie, it's going to disappear on its own.  I''m surprised it hasn't.
Unless elves are not strictly INfertile but ARE not very fertile.  Mules or somesuch.

I... frankly am not sure, Prof. I am at a loss. All I do know is that every health care system, the Danish included, has blind spots, flaws and will at times fail to serve its purposes. I can only give you generalised advice related to the struggles of myself and my own friends and family when stuck.
Number one is not to focus on the whole. You get overwhelmed that way. Focus on what can be done. To quote Heinlein, "When faced with a problem you don't understand, do any part of it you do understand, then look at it again." Your podiatrist at least seems to have his head screwed on straight. The problem with your foot may only be a small part of the whole, but if you manage to solve it, at least that much will have been taken off your load.
Number two is, a problem which appears unsolvable may become more tractable if viewed from a different angle or simply from stepping back from it and focusing on something else for a bit before returning your attention to it. If need be, I will buy you some more sausages so you can focus on cooking and eating them. Once you turn back to fighting the health care system -- because that is unfortunately how it can feel, being in this situation -- you may find a different approach or a different health care specialist who might listen to you and find a solution that has eluded the others.
In any event, you remain in my thoughts. I remain hopeful that you will manage to find a way through. I am certain your other friends here are in agreement with me on this.

I just talked the EMSA crew out of taking me to the hospital.   I went out to check my mail, had a dizzy spell while walking down the concrete steps to the mail boxes, so I sat down.  Real fast and real hard.  Then I lowered me to be horizontal.  All this under control and without injury.  That's what I do if I think I'm about to fall.   95% of the time, or more, it prevents any bad things from happening.  As it happens, the postman saw me do this.  He called 911, and they were here within a few minutes.   Explained to the ambulance crew what was going on, had my blood pressure tested and lights flashed in my eyes, etc.  The didn't put up much of a fight when I "refused transport," because I suspect they didn't see anything really needing a trip to the ER.
Still doing better than Prof, not that it is a contest  :-)

Good! I hope the cars will live up to it. (I am still amused at the low-carb Hondas you told us about recently. At least, I am assuming that their carburators kept exploding because they were low-carb.)
I am not much of a cook but I do know that good food is a great balm for the soul. Hope you will have a good weekend!

I am not against medications. In fact, precisely applied medication given to me with my consent has turned my life around for the better. It is when medication is used as a means to bludgeon an ill person into unthinking passivity because it makes them easier to handle that I start to twitch.

World history sadly does not bear out the assertion that torture doesn't work.  It does.

Torture does not work as a blind fishing expedition, however.  The torturer must have (or at least be able to fake having) some accurate information against which the victim's bluffs can measured, recognized and discredited.  Finding the fissures and cracks in the victim's resistances and in the story the victim tells is how the torture game is played.
Interrogation is a more social process, but it takes longer.  Intel is most useful when it is received quickly.  No doubt throwing a torture victim into the lap of an interrogator would make the process much harder because the interrogator would then have to start from a deficit than from 0 to work his or her craft successfully, drawing the intel-gathering process out even longer.
One interesting interrogation technique I heard of was used against german generals during world war 2.  They were treated well, I'm sure interrogated in the normal ways, but they were given good food and accommodations fitting their station.  All were assigned valets to tend to them.  The valets all spoke german but were trained to act as if they didn't.  When the officers socialized with each other they felt completely free to discuss the war.  They interrogated each other.
