My apologies. I know how hard it is. *sigh* I should really get around to getting new cats myself.
-
Obviously you should get two more kittens and buy them lots of toys and a kitty bed.

I remember once running a module where the players met a dwarven blacksmith. I thought the flavor text description was a bit scanty so I decided to describe the gear he was wearing from the DM portion of the text, stating he wore a leather apron, carried a hammer, et cetera. Only I went on just a bit too long and before I could stop myself I added, "On his left hand he is wearing a Ring of Protection +1." The players loved it. The party leader cheerfully addressed the dwarf, "Hello, my good man! I see you are wearing your Ring of Protection +1 today! Good idea, things just aren't safe these times!"

It's because you can't hear my thick Austrian accent. They didn't get rid of that until the later models rolled around.

It's all these Elder Gods. Typically they come from nightmarish dark tropical hothouse worlds so they raise the humidity so they can feel more at home. In the wintertime, of course, you mostly have to worry about Mi-Go.

I will upgrade from Win 7 to Win 10 only over my dead body. I found applications on the Internet that disabled the nagware and helped me switch off all update options. Right now my computer works and I want it to keep working properly.

My psychiatrist put it beautifully. She said, "Your doctor is an expert on medicine and treatment. You are an expert on yourself." Indicating that a good doctor or psychiatrist is aware that getting a patient better can be a team effort.

Sure I do. I'm a T-800 with living tissue over a hyperalloy endoskeleton. The earlier T-600s had rubber skin and were easier to spot.

We don't know if Disco Wizard is an Immortal. He might be a mortal wizard, he might be something completely different. Since he is working for Magic itself, or at least claims he does... he could be anything at all. My personal guess is that he is Morgan Freeman in a really horrible wig.

DW has the big advantage, courtesy-wise, that he is not spying. He came specifically to make contact with Grace and he made himself openly known. He knocked on the door, as it were. Pandora, on the other hand, entered with hostile or at least ambiguous intentions and solely to get knowledge from Grace, with no intentions of giving anything back. In fact, if you look at the original comic, it is obvious that DW has no idea of what is going on before he makes himself known to Grace. "This dream again?"

To be frank, I don't care as much what it was about as the fact that you remain safe and not shot at.

Take heart. That is what the moderator is there for.

Unsolved Mysteries of Susan and Diane

I rather agree. It would not be lack of money alone. Obviously examples of poor children who mature into greedy adults exist but there are also examples of this making them become very generous when they do have surplus. Bad examples from school strike me as a much more likely scenario.- 43 replies

Hrm. *scratches head* However likely it is that Apple would respond in this way, I don't quite see 'Hairball Electronics' displacing them as the biggest name in smartphones and tablets on the market.

Yeah, I figured. I like to read, too, but my problem is that I get caught up in it and then suddenly it is morning. Podcasts work better for me -- they require no physical activity and I can just lie back, close my eyes and relax.

This reminds me a little of a fictional character I once created. He was this mildly immortal technomage who was born early in the 20th Century and lived in a building he owned himself. (There's a story behind 'mildly immortal' but I won't go into it here.) Once you got into the first floor, it was totally dominated by a massive and very old computer which if investigated a bit more closely looked a lot like ENIAC. When you went a level up, you'd discover somewhat smaller (but still massive) computers made with 50s technology; these used transistors instead of bulbs. Another story up and you reached the 60s. And so forth. His entire home consisted of sort of geological layers of computers and whenever they started to take up too much room he would just move another level up where he could start filling the place with cutting edge computers. I have no idea where he came from in my mind except that he must have been some sort of ultimate packrat. I actually think that I would like to live like this if I were able to. Then, whenever I felt nostalgic, I could just walk down the stairs.

I actually heard that pork is unhealthy for cats or at least housecats. Mind you, I am not going to tell a veterinarian her job, I don't like to sound stupid -- it's just what I heard. I may have internalised this due to not ever seeing any sort of cat food with pork in it, at least here in Denmark. Which is kind of odd now I think about it when you think of how much pork Danes eat. You'd think we'd share it with our cats. *scratches head*

I found a trick that helped me relax and sleep. I put one of my favourite movie or comic reviews from Channel Awesome on my iPad or my smartphone and then play it at a lowish volume. Usually that puts me under in 20 to 30 minutes -- they deal with topics I find relaxing, I know them by heart and I enjoy listening to the voices of the best reviewers. Obviously you don't have to use exactly my method, but if you have a favourite kind of podcast dealing with a topic that makes you relax, you could try that.

Errr, at a wild guess, her smartphone? (Or as my wife calls it, smarty-pants phone.)
-
I remember that. That was an incredible movie. And yes, that was just possibly the best scene in the movie. Horribly cute!

"Really? I had TWO arms, and you had to pick the right arm? Dude, that's seriously inconsiderate of you."
-
Absolutely, and they will draft Pandora into arbitrating.

Nonsense. These guys INVENTED pottery. They had a bigger selection of EVERYTHING imaginable in clay. I'm amazed they haven't sued Apple for the iPad yet, they came up with pad and stylus millenniae before Steve Jobs even was a mad gleam in his own eye.

You're already the Pharaoh. Just use it anyway.

loving language The Grammar Thread
The Old Hack replied to CritterKeeper's topic in Off Topic Discussion
I look at it this way: it works for the people using it. If it doesn't work for me, I use alternatives or make up my own. And get looked at like I was weird. Which I am, so that's OK, I guess.- 132 replies
