  1. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Gelatin Boy may be slippery and silent, but he's got a few things to learn about being a spy...! Necros may not have quite as many gadgets as Belt Boy, but given that he created the Necrobots, is it any surprise he's got a holographic watch in his gloves? In case you were wondering, yes - Sugar Rush's face in the fourth panel IS a reference to the meme-ified Yellow Diamond "You CLOD!" face. Her expression looked a bit different before, but when I noticed it looked a little bit like Yellow Diamond, I decided to take it a bit further. It's a bit subtle, but I'm proud of the way I drew Dino-Mo in the last panel, with her leaning to one side, and having her hands be asymmetrical. I'm trying to get a bit more inventive with my poses, and I think it makes her look a bit livelier. Sorry for this being a relatively late update for the second week in a row; technical difficulties combined with my working and sleeping odd hours this week have complicated my webcomic work schedule a bit. I think things should be back to normal next week *knock on wood*, when my work schedule becomes a bit more regular.
  2. http://TheHeroesOfCRASH.com I mentioned last week that YouWillNeverKnow is a longtime fan, having submitted some redesigns of Miss Sunflower and Sister Sledgehammer for this year's traditional category, and having submitted multiple entries in past years' contests. Well, YWNK is such a dedicated fan, that he submitted an entry for BOTH categories this year, and won the Generated Fan Art category! He recreated all 10 of the student cast members using RPG Maker MV! His entry features (Clockwise from bottom left) Belt Boy, Sugar Rush, Unk, Gelatin Boy, Dodge, Titanium Maiden, Jackknife, Dino-Mo, Enticia, and Cannon. Thats quite an adventuring party! However, due to a lack of time (I had some family emergencies this week; don't worry, all is relatively well) and for the sake of simplicity, I only recreated my main three for his reward drawing. Maybe these three are the characters you start off with, and you need to find and unlock the other seven throughout the game...? I tweaked BB, Cannon, and TM's designs from his submission, partly because it's a little hard to make out all the details on their pixelated forms, and because I didn't want to give EVERYONE a blue cape. I made Cannon's into a scarf, which seemed a bit more anime-ninja-esque, and TM's into a neck accessory for her dress. I imagine that BB's some sort of knight or warrior and Cannon's a ninja, but I'm not sure what TM's class is in this drawing, based on her outfit. Perhaps she's an Amazon princess? Nah, if that were the case, she'd have a golden lasso and star-spangled swimsuit armor. If you have any thoughts as to what TM's class is, leave a comment. Perhaps you may even have some ideas as to what the other party members' classes are! Thanks again for the awesome fan art, YouWillNeverKnow! :-D This was quite a birthday treat!
  3. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Belt Boy's creation debuted WAAAAAY back in strip #96... over ten years ago! Up until now, the Detach-a-Cape has only been used in battles against Miss Sunflower. The first time kept Sunflower from grabbing him (Eat your heart out, Edna Mode!). It would later be mentioned in strip #253 before being used to taunt and misdirect Miss Sunflower six strips later. This strip shows a lot of mingling between Enticia and Dino-Mo's teams, which I kinda like. It gives the characters to bounce off each other in ways they haven't before. I particularly like the dynamic between our two orange friends, Unk and Gelatin Boy. The two are such a contrast - Unk being huge, powerful, and laid back, while GB is small, weak, and in a constant state of anxiety - that I kinda want to put them together in future strips, if I can find the opportunity...! The biggest obstacle between the two hanging out is probably Jackknife; the only reason he's not bothering them right now is because he's putting his stalking skills to good use as a lookout.
  4. Comic 1/27/18 - Multitasking Mayhem

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Enticia accepts Dino-Mo's accusations; conversely, Belt Boy can't accept defeat. I like how this storyline's been exploring Enticia and Belt Boy's characters in different ways. Enticia has always been a flawed and somewhat egotistical character, who has put distance between herself and others, and allowed people to get hurt in the process. Now, she's seriously considering what people think about her and trying to listen. Belt Boy, on the other hand, has always been a seemingly perfect boy scout-type, but while he's friendly with others, he's hard on himself. Now, he's sinking further into his delusion that perfection is attainable, and he's becoming blinded to what he's doing. On a related note, I mentioned in last week's commentary that there's a key difference between Enticia and her mother; namely that Rose Greene's flirtiness was a string of short romances, while Enticia's playing for keeps. Enticia gathered the whole idea of dating lots of boys in a casual way, but her mom never explained a whole lot about ending relationships, apparently.
  5. Comic 1/20/18 - Pet Names

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Some insight into how Enticia learned about relationships. Although Violet's behavior/advice explains quite a bit about what Enticia did, there is a key difference between how the two have treated boys. Looking at Dino-Mo's expression - which has suddenly changed from surprised (and possibly sympathetic) to annoyed - she may have caught on. Have you? In the early days of my strip, I wanted there to be at least one established couple; having EVERY character be un-attached seemed a little unrealistic - or at least boring - to me. I wound up pairing Sugar Rush and Dodge, and that pairing has helped influence Dodge's personality a bit. Dodge does have a wild streak that he lets out on occasion, which Sugar Rush loves. But he can also be patient and logical, which helps balance out Sugar Rush's impulsiveness (not that impulsiveness is necessarily a bad thing). However, Sugar Rush hasn't been the only one to make me think how I wrote Dodge's character; his protective nature was influenced by having the often-defenseless Gelatin Boy as his best friend. Perhaps it's because of his sports theme that Dodge has grown to be a team player in his team and in my comic's cast! Ah, the return of character-colored flashbacks. Every character's flashbacks are a different color. Enticia's are tinted in browns and reds, to match her hair, skin, makeup, and the broken-heart-halves on her pants (And because using blacks and grays to match her clothes and shoes didn't look vibrant enough). Similarly, Belt Boy's have been yellow to match his hair and his belt buckle (and, admittedly, because yellow is my favorite color and he's the semi-central character), Cannon's were green to match his armor, and Titanium Maiden's have been pink to match her scrunchie, lipstick, shoes, and the flower on her shirt. Hmmm... in hindsight, this may get me backed into a corner if other characters have flashbacks... Obviously, Gelatin Boy would have orange, but what would Dodge have, if orange, red, and yellow are used up? And what would Sugar Rush have? In the future, I may do two-tone flashbacks. I might have to study how Kathleen Jacques colors her Band Vs. Band comic (Which should be on my totally-needs-to-be-updated Links page)... As far as that “bundle of hormones and crazy” comment, I think it sums up teens pretty well (although it doesn’t necessarily disqualify them from serious, meaningful relationships). To be fair though, I think “bundle of crazy” (minus the hormones part) sums up most adults pretty well, too. Just look at the loon that adults got into office a year ago today.
  6. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com A callback to comic #312, this probably won't be the last time we hear this phrase. And yes, we will soon get an explanation of what Mrs. Greene has to do with Enticia's attitudes on relationships... to some extent, anyway. Enticia's got a lot going on below the surface, and I look forward to exploring more of her character in the future. :-) Titanium Maiden and Dino-Mo, as you can see from panel #2, are still there. TM tends to be quiet and gives other people space, whereas Dino-Mo's still taking all this in. If comic #475 and the last panel of today's strip didn't make it clear, Sugar Rush is canonically bi. While she finds other women attractive, she's quite happy in her monogamous dating relationship with Dodge. The two of them happen to be a loving, passionate young couple who just happen to high-five each other whenever a beautiful woman passes by (I think I let Marshall and Lily from How I Met Your Mother influence how I depict their relationship a smidge). Oh, almost forgot; Enticia's last line was, at one point, going to be, "I'm being punished, aren't I?!", borrowing a quote from one of my favorite movies: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret of the Ooze. I decided to skip that quote and use some dialogue that made Enticia's feelings of frustration and guilt a bit more apparent.
  7. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Enticia realizes that her confession may have been a bit easier to overhear than she intended. She's not embarassed about Dodge and Sugar Rush knowing she's sorry about Bastion - he was their teammate and friend, too - but she IS embarassed by the fact that she now realizes how loud she was and that almost anyone could have heard her. Thankfully for Enticia, there are almost no students left in the school at this time of day to know she's afraid that she's turned into her mother. I'm mostly happy with the art for today's strip; the one thing that bothers me is the third panel; I realized after I finished the whole thing that Enticia and Titanium Maiden are in similar poses. Granted, TM is grasping her head in frustration and Enticia is nervously scratching her head, but they both have their right elbow out. It's probably a nitpick, but I can't help but think it could have been better. On the plus side, I'm happy with how I drew Sugar Rush skidding to a stop in panel two (I fiddled with her pose quite a bit before I got it to look right), and I like Enticia's toony expression in the last panel. Overall, not a bad comic to kick off the new year!
  8. An Insight She Can't Unsee

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Enticia utters four words that everyone fears. Enticia's been one of the more fun characters for me to write. She may be my favorite character outside of the main 3. She started off as a femme fatale, but I found myself discovering her character and backstory, and she's evolved as the story progressed. That being said, she isn't always easy to write. I've become increasingly aware of how frequently men take advantage of women in the real world, especially in the last few months, and while I enjoy subverting expectations to create new characters and situations, I didn't want to make it look like I was dismissing what women were (and are) going through by turning men into the victims*. There's MORE than enough of that online. I hope that as the story goes on, that readers will find Enticia to be as deep and loveable as I do. As far as the art in today's comic, my first sketch of Enticia in the last panel had her face looking even more cartoonishly exaggerated, but I felt that it made her look crazed instead of distraught. I feel pretty pleased with how I have her hands clutching her head and messing up her Halle Berry hairdo. By the way, If you've been following me on social media, you know that I'm disappointed by the FCC's recent decision to repeal Net Neutrality laws (And if you enjoy webcomics like mine, you're probably disappointed, too). That being said, this isn't over. There's still plenty of things you can do! 1. Go over the FCC's heads and demand that your representatives in the Senate and Congress put Net Neutrality laws in place. 2. Tell the FCC that you are displeased with their decision; Net Neutrality isn't about taking away people's ability to take selfies and make memes, but about people's ability to have a voice that can be heard globally, and about small businesses having a chance to compete with big businesses. 3. Tell your ISP that you're not a happy customer; you want their website to guarantee that there will be no throttling back the speed at which information comes to you, that there will be no paid prioritization, and that they can still guarantee that low-income families have access to the FULL internet. Don't give up on this cause! Keep listening to what's happening, and keep speaking out! *In the context of this statement, I mean men as a whole. I am aware that men can be victims of abuse in relationships as well as women. However, a disappointingly high number of online complaints involve men complaining that women have it easier than they do, or that feminism is "taking away their rights", and that's just total malarkey.
  9. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Enticia helps Titanium Maiden and Dino-Mo search for Belt Boy. Even with Dino-Mo around and guilt on her mind, Enticia always plays it cool. Enticia's become one of the more fun characters for me to write, largely because I know of her backstory and how I want her story arch to go. Her story is, for the time being, mainly a redemption story, like Scrooge or Scott Pilgrim, and I rather enjoy writing it. I will say this, there's more to her story than just redemption. In fact, there's a whole 'nother side to her story we have yet to explore, but I'm keeping that under my hat for now...!
  10. Comic 9/9/17 - Search Party Poopers

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Looks like the heroes are ready to search for Belt Boy and end their squabbling... mostly. Will Enticia and Dino-Mo ever see eye-to-eye? Can they find their missing friend? Will anyone ever answer Jackknife's question from a few storylines back as to why we drive on parkways and park on driveways? The answers to at least two of these questions are coming, so stay tuned! Titanium Maiden has kept MOST of the group from arguing with each other, but it looks like she's still going to have to play referee. To be fair, Dino-Mo is pretty much mad at most of the people here, almost everyone has a beef with Enticia, and Gelatin Boy is nervous around both his friends AND Enticia's team. There's only so much she can do to stop potential conflicts. I'm still fiddling with my characters' proportions a bit. I kinda like how they look if I make their heads a bit larger, which makes them a bit more toony and makes their expressions easier to show. I often find myself resizing Dino-Mo and Enticia's heads while sketching out these comics - it's easy for me to draw Enticia's head too big and Dino-Mo's head too small.
  11. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Titanium Maiden seems to be sorting out the best way to keep everyone under control as they search for Belt Boy. Cannon seems to be abnormally concise in his speech. And Jackknife appears to be the obnoxious pain in the butt that he usually is. Will these groupings work out? Will they find Belt Boy before he flips out or gets clobbered by Necrobots (or both)? Stay tuned! In today's strip, Titanium Maiden is showing off one of her best qualities: she can be level-headed when everyone is freaking out. Of course, when it comes to personal problems, her anxiety comes out to party. Both of these aspects of her personality come from me... it always seems easier to calmly deal with other people's problems than with your own. Cannon's usually shooting off his mouth even more often than his weapon, but surprisingly, he's only got one word to say in today's comic. Between this and his revealing his missing hand, Cannon's acting awful uncharacteristic of his usual self. This is because Cannon has two traits that occasionally conflict with each other: his self-centeredness and his loyalty to his best friend, Belt Boy. Right now, his concern for his friend has overridden his need to make snarky one-liners, and most of his sensitivity regarding his hand. Until he knows BB is safe or until he feels a need to defend himself, Cannon's probably going to be stuck in this mode. I think that Unk and Jackknife make an unusual pair. Jackknife has all of Cannon's obnoxiousness, but none of his charm or moments of selflessness. It makes you wonder why a nice guy like Unk hangs around him at all. While it's not evident whether Jackknife sees Unk as a friend, a sidekick, or a lackey (or some combination of the three), Unk is generally the easygoing type who will put up with a lot. I think to some extent, he listens to Jackknife just because no one else will, and Unk knows how it feels to never be listened to.
  12. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Cannon and Titanium Maiden rarely see eye-to-eye, let alone get the same idea without having to say anything, so this is an unusual situation indeed. I was going to show the flow chart with the words "mad" and "afraid" on each arrow, but it didn't look right. I was also considering making the "afraid" icons purple, like Fear in the movie Inside-Out, but yellow seemed better for this picture. I really love how Titanium Maiden's poses look in this comic. I think I got her physique looking better than usual; sometimes arms are tricky, especially around the elbows. I also love the facial expressions she's making, particularly in the last panel. Although if she closed her eyes, you'd think she was mimicking an Emperor's New Groove meme.
  13. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Seems Belt Boy's definition of "doing poorly" on a quiz is not the same as everyone else's. But Cannon seems genuinely worried - why is that...? Stay tuned, readers! I could have had them all say, "WHAT?!?", but I felt that just using a period conveyed their annoyed tone of voice better. Much as I love making exaggerated, toony characters, I also love understatement. While I posted about these guys on some of my social media accounts already, I once again would like to acknowledge all the people I met at Lehigh Valley Comic Con, and hope that you'll check out their websites and social media pages. So here they are again: - John from Frugal Mule Games, from whom I got a fun caveman-themed card/dice game called "Stoned". I also understand they have pirate- and space-themed variants coming out, so keep your eyes peeled! - Super Comic (Official), whose superhero comic I totally want to get next time (Or maybe even online); for now, I got one of their neat figurines of their main character, Blitz. She's on a team of young, inexperienced superheroes trying to make a name for themselves. Gee, I wonder why I find THAT so interesting...? *Knowing wink!* - Artist Joseph Wigfield of WhatWouldWigDraw.com, who - to answer the question his URL poses - draws a lot of things, but is particularly known for drawing superheroes as pugs. Because pugs are awesome, adorable little furry meatballs, and putting them in comic art instantly makes them better. - Artist D Forrest Fox, who has made a lot of cool art prints. My personal favorites include ones based on the Rankin-Bass holiday specials: I've got my eye on the Miser Brothers; that would be a great picture to hang up around the holidays (And everyone knows I'm a festive fanatic every December 1st!) - Artist Darren Auck, who's worked on many a comic book for big name companies. I particularly like his work on Nickelodeon properties - specifically Rocko's Modern Life and Ren & Stimpy! - Artist David Bancroft of DMBillustrations.com, who does some rather pretty prints, sketches, and portraits! He's also self-published the zombie coloring book, "The Coloring Dead", for my friends who like zombies.
  14. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Seems that Cannon, of all people, has stumbled onto Belt Boy's secret...! What grade or comment is on that test? What will he do with this information? Is "Sweet and sour dipping sauce" a good exclamation? Stay tuned, everyone? While I'm trying to do better with drawing anatomy, I try to balance it out with style. In panel two, I let Gelatin Boy get a little off-model to showcase his rubbery-ness. He is made of gelatin, after all, so I tend to have a bit more fun with "squash and stretch" on him than any other character in the comic. I love the fourth panel. The lighting, Cannon's facial expression, and (as I have often used in the past), those tiny words in a large word balloon to indicate a hushed, yet anxious tone. I wanted to give him some exclamation to say, and I knew it had to start with "Sweet" (Like any exclamation spoken by Hermes from Futurama). The first thing that popped into my mind was "sweet and sour dipping sauce", and so it went from there. I can't help but wonder if my idea was subconsciously inspired by Gravity Falls' Dipper "Lord Dippingsauce" Pines.
  15. Comic 7/8/17 - Strong Silent Types

http://TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Seems that there's still plenty of arguing amongst Belt Boy's friends back at C.R.A.S.H., all of them unaware that their friend is in danger. Will they be able to settle their differences? Will they focus their anger on Belt Boy after those promises he made? Will Titanium Maiden get some aspirin for that headache she's clearly getting? The answers to these questions and more will be coming soon, so stay tuned! At one point, I considered having Gelatin Boy interject in Comic #670's argument between his teammates, asking if he had any say in the matter and his friends all shouting "NO!" at him. However, that didn't seem entirely in character for him; he's still the type to avoid confrontation, be it among friends or foes. I keep needing to remind myself to draw Enticia's earrings whenever I draw her. It's a little detail that I don't always think about. I'm sure someone could browse through my archives and play "Spot the Missing Earring", searching for panels where I accidentally drew her without it. I believe I skipped the earring throughout the Gym-Nauseum storyline, but to be fair, I think she would take them off when going to the gym. The title of today's strip refers to both Unk and Titanium Maiden. I enjoy subverting tropes and cliches - neither of my super-muscular characters are stereotypical "muscleheads", nor are they brutes. Unk is fairly quiet and zen, while Titanium Maiden has had (and still has) quite a bit of shyness and awkwardness to overcome.
  16. Comic 4/29/17 - "You" Times Two, "Eep" Times Three(p) TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Just to be clear, I'm counting last week's strip, so Dino-Mo has dramatically shouted "YOU!" twice in a row, eliciting an "Eep" from Enticia, Dodge, and Sugar Rush, hence the title. I'm still working on the next storyline, but I'm hoping that I can keep the number of characters small. These big group shots are a pain in the tuchus, especially when working with a limited number of frames. Granted, this is a webcomic; I could always add more frames. But I would like to print these out in an actual comic, and so in more recent years, I've been doing my best to keep the format consistent. I really like Dino-Mo's speech bubble in the last frame. While this is a bit of deja vu from the previous comic, Dino-Mo is getting angrier and angrier, so her firey speech balloon from the last strip is now burnt and crispy. By the way folks, DON'T FORGET ABOUT MY CONTEST! It ends May 19th, and EVERYONE WHO ENTERS GETS A PRIZE!!! Click the button on my site's main page for rules and details!
  17. theheroesofcrash.com Jackknife has yet to learn his lesson about following people. Although perhaps I shouldn't say "yet", as that suggests that someday he WILL learn his lesson... The hardest part about drawing today's strip was drawing Dino-Mo in that first panel. It was an awkward pose and it needed quite a bit of editing, particularly around her arm. It's surprising how tricky it can be to draw people from behind; there's fewer features to draw, but we're pretty used to visualizing people from the front, so all the angles are different. I definitely had fun with word balloons in this strip, particularly in panels 1 and 3. It's funny how simple things like that can give so much character to... well, characters!
  18. theheroesofcrash.com Awkward moment alert! Dino-Mo's typically fairly laid back, but if you threaten her teammates, you're pushing her buttons, and she's a bit more likely to hold a grudge. Enticia's already on her bad side, and it looks like Belt Boy's getting there, too! The first panel is a bit of a callback to the 7/3/07 strip, in which Cannon falls out of the school upon leaving the front doors. I know it's not practical for a school to float in the air, but I still like the effect, and it seems that any superhero should be able to reach a door a mere twelve feet in the air. Getting down, apparently, is harder... unless you have wings, or the strength to pull of a "superhero landing". Hey, just reminding you that there's still a month left in my contest, and EVERYONE who enters gets a prize! Just in case you forgot...
  19. Comic 1/21/17 - Sneaky as a Fox

theheroesofcrash.com Ouch. Enticia would not take that as a compliment if she could hear that comment. And she'd probably have some qualms about ever being called "foxy" again. Now, I'll say this: I won't make fun of Megan Fox as a person. I don't know much about her personally. But as an actress, she's pretty subpar. She doesn't show much expression in her roles. I've heard some people argue that that's just how her face looks, but I disagree; I've seen her show emotion in interviews. Specifically when she did the first Ninja Turtles movie and she said how much she loved The Secret of the Ooze and how she had a childhood crush on Michelangelo. She was really, visibly jubilant about that, and I have to respect her taste there.Of course, when they asked her if she'd REALLY patched things up with Michael Bay, her gaze dropped, her voice became monotone, and she kept blinking as she said that they were "all good friends now". Yeah, not good at acting, not good at lying, and not good at portraying April O'Neil. But she still deserves better than having to put up with Michael Bay. Yeesh. Anyway, I digress. I used some copy/paste in the Sketch layer for the top two panels, but made the effort to make sure that Unk and Enticia's arms switched sides. I'm pretty pleased with Jackknife's expression in that last panel, as well.
  20. theheroesofcrash.com Enticia's trying to be a better person. She really is. But those brownies do NOT make it easy. When I first started drawing Enticia's boyfriend harem as featureless figures, it wasn't out of sheer laziness (although that was the primary reason). Part of it was because I hadn't decided who was actually IN her harem at the time. While I do have a good chunk of her harem figured out now, I must admit that I like the symbolic notion of her boyfriends practically being a part of the background, which is pretty telling about her relationship with them...! By the way, it's hard to tell, but Bastion has a very slight, very subtle, purple tinge to him in that last panel, in order to show that he's still part of the harem, even if he does stand out to Enticia a lot more. I'm trying to put my characters in more dramatic poses by using exaggerated lines of action; I'm pretty happy with how it turned out in panel #2.
  21. Filler 12/24/16 - A Christmas Wish

theheroesofcrash.com Well, folks, at the time that I'm typing this, it's in the wee small hours of the morning on Christmas Eve! By sundown it'll be Chanukkah, by tomorrow it'll be Christmas, and the day after that is Kwanzaa! There's so many wonderful holidays this weekend, and - especially in times like these where there's a lot of outspoken hatred and prejudice - it's important that we take the time to celebrate and appreciate both what makes us different AND what we share in common. We all have different, beautiful ways of celebrating the same values of love and goodwill towards others, and we should do our best to show that throughout the year. So whether you celebrate none, one, or many of the holidays occurring this December, know that I wish you a happy and safe holiday season. I know I've had Muppets on the brain a bit lately (You've seen my Daily Drawings, right?), but I honestly thought that this quote was a good one to use; despite being from a Christmas song, it reaches out to people of all faiths. Jim Henson was a man who appreciated diversity and sought to give people an idea of what a peaceful world could be like through educational shows like Sesame Street or the social commentary of Fraggle Rock, so it seems more than appropriate to use his words for this filler. Wishing you all Happy Holidays! Canonical comics return in January! :-)
  22. Comic 10/29/16 - Halloween 2016

theheroesofcrash.com I typically don't like to get into politics on my own site; I like to think of this comic an escape from the frustrations of the real world, and into the land of stories and fantasy. But the current situation needs to be addressed. This election is a big one, and it may not be farfetched to say that the state of the world hangs in the balance. I understand that many people are disappointed with all the choices we have. Clinton had that e-mail scandal. Johnson has shown in interviews that he doesn't know what certain government departments do, nor is he aware of current events in other countries. Stein also demonstrates a lack of knowledge of how government works, and - despite being a doctor - would not stand up for vaccinations so as not to dissuade anti-vaccination voters. And then there's Trump. Oy vey, there's Trump. Fact-checking website Politifact's scorecard for Donald Trump rates 70% of his statements as Mostly False or worse (19% are rated as Mostly False, 34% as False, and 17% as Pants on Fire), compared to 26% for Hillary (14% Mostly False, 10% False, and 2% Pants on Fire). Trump has been recorded making statements that insult or belittle women, African-Americans, Mexicans, Muslims, Jewish people, POW veterans, people with disabilities, and more. He wants to build a wall under the false pretense that most immigrants are criminals - a wall that not only will cost a ridiculous amount of money to build and maintain (that he can't make Mexico pay for), but will also probably result in MORE illegal immigrants due to overstaying their visas. He has encouraged violence at his rallies, bullies at polling locations, and racism nationwide. And finally, he's not all that good a businessman, as he owes his fortune to exploiting loopholes in bankruptcy law - a skill that cannot carry over to helping our own economy - and he is known for ripping off people in his business deals. Trump is, to put it simply, a con man. The message of my comic has always been that anyone has the potential to be a hero, even if they aren't perfect. All you need to do to be a hero is to fight injustice in some form, and Trump is injustice incarnate. Trump is hatred, racism, bigotry, violence, wrath, ignorance, greed, and pride, all wrapped up in one orange-painted package. Hillary may not be the candidate that we deserve, but she may be the one we need. You can be a hero, too, by voting for her this November. Please. On the lighter side of things, I'm pleased with Enticia and Titanium Maiden's costumes (as Patty from the new Ghostbusters and Wendy from Gravity Falls, respectively). Not only are both of them based on paranormal pop culture, but they're both based on something we've seen this year. Between my three characters, it's like a nice little time capsule for 2016. Oh, and if you're wondering why the haunted house patrons aren't regular cast members from my comic, it's because I wanted to keep my characters' ages vague, so they may not be old enough to vote. They are all - to borrow an expression from Homestar Runner - "Someteen" years old. Wishing you all a Happy Halloween, and the best of luck this coming election day.
  23. 4/16/16 - "Recruiting Methods"

In panel #3, Enticia's referring to what took place in comics #305 and #306 (During the storyline "Even a Rose Has its Thorns"). I like the background for that panel, even though it's similar to something I did once for Comic #423 (Fight at the Museum), but my favorite panel has got to be the last one. I had fun playing with Manga Studio's tools to make a blur effect, and I think I pulled it off well. What do you think? P.S.: HAVE YOU ENTERED MY ART CONTEST YET?!
  24. http://theheroesofcrash.com There's some things that we just accept as being realistic within the laws of fictitious universes. For example, we accept that any character within the Looney Tunes universe can naturally be squashed and stretched, whereas doing the same requires superpowers in the Marvel universe. Sometimes we're aware that something is realistic only within the confines of fiction... other times, not so much (Just look at all the people who think that Twilight and most romantic comedies give a fully accurate portrayal as to how real relationships work). With today's comic, I want to bring attention to a cartoon trope that people tend to overlook: the brainiac who knows EVERYTHING about science. You know how in cartoons and comics, you'll come across brainy types whose scientific knowledge can solve pretty much any problem? Whether you need a computer hacked, a robot disassembled, a cure for were-lizard venom, a rocketship flown, or an anti-gravity device built... they can do it. What truly makes this unrealistic isn't simply the science-fiction stuff they can do, but also the fact that they possess skills in every area of science... even those that aren't really closely related. Most scientists stick to one or a few "-ologies", be it biology, technology, geology, archaeology, zoology, etc. Yet somehow, the typical cartoon scientist is a jack of all trades, AND a master of all. Belt Boy... not so much. Belt Boy's knowledge lies mostly in designing, programming, and building technology; he built his utility belt, his lab, and B.O.N.N.I.E. with only some gruntwork assistance from Cannon to help him. Biology, on the other hand, is not as familiar a subject to him. He does know a bit more than most people, having studied it a bit to program Cannon's prosthetic hand. But his biological knowledge still isn't enough to make programming a DNA analyzer a quick fix, which is why he's still having trouble. By the way, the title of today's strip and the cover of his book are gag references to strip #408, which was entitled "He Should Read 'Evil Rants for Pinheads'."
