That was just to cover for his mistake. You wouldn't believe how it can undermine the confidence of your troops once they get the idea into their heads that you don't know which way to hold a map.
The worst part is... I know of at least one story where this actually happened. A genius lieutenant in the US Army who was based south of a major city was supposed to take his unit to a training ground. His unit consisted of one platoon, a light tank, and a jeep and driver for his own convenience. This supergenius actually did hold his map the wrong way and could not be persuaded that this was so. As a result, he valiantly led his men straight towards the heart of the city (Chicago, I think it was.) The fact that construction grew denser and that they were clearly entering the suburbs instead of reaching open land failed to impress on him the possibility that they might be headed the wrong way. He insisted that they would soon be at their destination.
Meanwhile, some of the locals had notified the local authorities of what was going on and several units of police were sent to stop this unexpected invasion. The hapless police officers set up a roadblock while wondering what they would do if the invaders decided to press on (the operative word in the construction 'light tank' is 'tank', not 'light'). They had this suspicion that their pistols and shotguns would not make much of an impression on a tank of any weight class at all.
The parade arrived whereupon the lieutenant got into a shouting match with the cops. At this point the driver of the tank had had enough (passing several road signs that clearly read 'Now Approaching Chicago' or words to similar effect had not helped his confidence in his commander). He did a K-turn on some unfortunate person's lawn and headed back to base. The infantry followed him. The outraged lieutenant ordered his jeep to pursue the mutineers but they would not be persuaded to resume their advance on Chicago. Thus this brilliant offensive failed to achieve its objective and in the aftermath the lieutenant found himself transferred to a desk job that did not involve the use of map or compass.

On this topic, the operative word in "cold fusion" is "fusion", not "cold" ... I might hold a grudge against certain movie pretending to be Star Trek ...
I see he was related to someone more competent. At least I HOPE he would be just fired otherwise.

    Damned art thieves.

This is all Saruman's fault.  "Hobbit bait?  Who need to put out hobbit bait?  Let them breed out of control.  It's not my problem. " It sure turned into your problem, mate.  Hobbits, they get into everything and gum it all up.  For all their destructiveness Maiar are easy to deal with.  A regular spraying is all you need.  Once an infestation of hobbits gets going they're far worse than any valinorian pest you could name.  Worse than mimmoths, even...

"It's all rubbish." Lady Sybil sniffed. "Oh, it sounds nice, I'll grant you. Then they realize it means soot-burns, frizzled hair and crap all down their back. Those talons dig in, too. And then they think the thing's getting too big and smelly and next thing you know it's either down to the Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Lost Dragons or the old heave-ho into the river with a rope round their neck, poor little buggers."

I did similarly.  I had characters with deep stories, sketches of stories and experiments in powerset combinations.
As I contemplate a midlife shift from the tech sector to writer, I find my pen and paper RPG characters and my CoH characters are a great reserve of story characters.

I loved this spell as well. I'd spam it endlessly. There was this one time where I was really badly hurt after a massive fight and then a monster I'd missed started to come for me and I thought, "Well, I'm toast." Then somewhere in the distance there was a squeak as some creature died from residual charged bolt spam and I leveled up, instantly returning to full health and mana. And then that monster was toast instead.
I still resent Blizzard passing my character the idiot ball at the end of the game, though. They could just as well have had some surviving NPC do it, but nooooooo.

Don't worry, it only took me few minutes.
... so do I. Is easy because we have very little facts.
Most strategic games and many others allow player to start reign of terror ... meanwhile, only few allow him to start democracy build upon principles of liberty, equality and fraternity. Even the Sid Meier's Civilization with it's "totally democracy but you remain in control for several centuries" doesn't exactly look fair ...

This is possibly the best NP strip I have seen for quite a while. Susan being able to even temporarily overcome her inhibitions for some reason fills me with contentment.

Oh so YOU'RE responsible for that Oktoberfest incident...we'll be looking for you when we start....The Hunt for Red Hacktober...
I'm playing it more like an intelligence analyst.  What reasonable conclusions can I tease out of how tenuous a set of facts?  Sometimes I speculate outside the facts but I keep the distinction in my head.
...which is entirely reasonable.  Lord Tedd could be calling himself that in a super-villain way.  As if he's the "Lord of All Tedds" or something like that.

Except Shade-Tail does use "m'lud" when talking to Lord Tedd.  That is what suggests LT has some kind of actual authority.  I hasten to add it doesn't prove it, but it holds out the possibility.  We also have Nioi referring to Lord Ted in the privacy of her own mind as "master".  Lord Tedd could more like a cult leader than running an actual nation.  It just seems like there's some kind of organization there with Lord Tedd at the top.  One large enough to have an army with a "General".
The important point to pick out is Lord Tedd's organization, however big or not it is, feels isolated, and independent.  Rather than inserting a post-apocalyptic scenario, I look around for other EGS continuity I can stick onto that feeling.  Damian was supposed to be the "lord of Fire" prophesied to unite the Seynoulu.  People have speculated for years that this might actually be Tedd, so why not make it true with Lord Tedd, running a cult/empire of Seynoulu?

maybe they're HQed in the remains of the Shady Corporation where Shade-Tail and his brothers were created.  maybe somewhere else.  I find it amusing though I have no evidence for it that Lord Tedd's headquarters are still in his dad's house's basement.  Just drilled out and massively expanded.  Since second life has Kaoli living openly, and Nioi is a part of Lord Tedd's world, I choose to believe that Lord Tedd's universe is a darker reflection of Second Life.   In a world where magic and aliens are much more common, Lord Tedd's magitech might give him the ability to force the US government to keep its distance.  again, I don't have evidence.  all I claim is this is a theory that fits the facts.

The irony is that it is a revived nationalism akin to Nazism that is one of the largest threats European democracies face, that and foreign sabotage attempts of our elections. Here in Denmark we have one small advantage: direct interference with our voting is very hard as we still use paper ballots. It has benefits, being a minuscule country with only a small population.

Dan, have characters avoid needless violence by talking to each other instead?  How unprecedented!  ;-)
