Maplestrip got a reaction from The Old Hack in EGS Community Survey 2019
Alas, it will take a few more days to properly compile the results. I underestimated how laborious this process would be. I do expect to have it finished before the next weekend. Thank you all for your patience!
As a quick teaser, did you know that the average age of the El Goonish Shive community member is 29? And the median age is 27!

I was just about to say! I am currently planning to close the survey tomorrow, on Sunday, somewhere around noon GMT. We are 634 responses right now and new responses are dripping in at only two or three a day now.
I want to compile the results tomorrow as well. Hopefully, a good report of the survey results will be available within 36 hours from now, somewhere in my evening of Sunday.

There is also something called Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome. It's essentially a defect in the receptors for one or more male hormones, particularly testosterone. Genetic males with this defect are divided into three categories depending on how severe it is. The moderate form is the easiest to detect, as it causes the person to be born recognizably intersex. Males with the mild form are less fertile or perhaps sterile, while males with the severe form seem to be completely female - and, quite often, unusually shapely - but are sterile.
Genetic females with it... are more shapely than they would be otherwise. They are NOT less fertile.
The shapeliness occurs because in the female body, the major source of testosterone is fat cells... such as what fills in breast development and widening hips in puberty... and the androgen receptors are a major part of what tell the body to stop enhancing those areas. The bigger the boobs, the more body fat in them, therefore the more androgens saying "okay that's enough" - and nobody's listening.

Ashley strikes me as smart enough to reach a correct or semi-correct conclusin in her own.  If she knows about the TFG, etc. then she'd figure out it was Ellen transformed.  If not, she'd "figure out" that Elliot only provided genetic material as a favor to his twin sister.  Either way, she doesn't strike me as the jealous type.
Oddly enough, if Susan were Elliot's current girlfriend, I can picture her getting jealous.  She'd figure out that it was irrational and try to keep it in check, but she's not very experienced, relationship-wise, and was raised to be suspicious of men and think the worst of them.  Her hackles going up at the possibility of Elliot being unfaithful would be in character, as long as she gets to be smart enough to figure out what's going on and that she shouldn't let that feeling drive her actions.

I am looking forward to a situation where most of the main 8 doesn't know how Ellen got pregnant and then see the baby
    I'm pretty sure this is all just fanfiction, though ^_^;

Considering the mythological science of EGS, I wouldn't be surprised if at least one of the offspring from a Main Eight member was actually delivered by a stork.
At the very least, that stork could deliver pickles to, and perform Groucho Marx impressions for, the expectant parents.

Honestly, if a lesbian couple gets a kid, "who is the father" is already an awkward, "non of your busines"-type question. Who gives a shit if people just conclude that it may be Tedd after comparing looks?  Are we worried that people will think Tedd had a thing with Ellen?

Noah thinks he can knight people.  Humans with high magic are royalty on the flip side of the world which would make him a prince, and therefore able to knight some one.  We don't know where Noah came from.  That makes it possible that he is from the griffin's side of the world.

Excuse me? The Pokémon world has been in danger many times. Mostly in the movies, yes, but Ash and his friends have had to rescue legendary Pokémon from being used for evil many times in the anime as well and by saving them, they've saved the world from destruction each time. My favorite time when that happened was in the DP series when they stopped Team Galactic from creating a new universe which would have wiped the old universe from existence.
I think it's pretty obvious that humans are a LOT tougher than they look in Pokémon. Team Rocket and Ash are the best examples of that. They've been through so much abuse over the years that I think they would make many superheroes look like wimps. They obviously feel pain, but they recover ridiculously fast and they never gain any lasting injuries from electricity, fire, freezing, explosions, crash landings, poison, physical and mental attacks or anything else. In short, humans are just as indestructible as Pokémon, they just can't attack the way Pokémon do.
The games are not like the anime. In the anime, training Pokémon takes a lot more time and patience, not to mention more improvising. I know fully well that Ash is pretty dumb, but he is a great Trainer. He was still a rookie in the first season, so of course he made lots of rookie mistakes and I am not a fan of how he won most of his Indigo League Badges, but those days are long gone. Ash got progressively better in Johto and Hoenn, and he was brilliant in Sinnoh. He really should have won the Sinnoh League, but because the writers always have to find some excuse to make him lose, they pulled a legendary user out of their asses so Ash wouldn't win - and Ash still beat two of that guy's legendary Pokémon that nobody else had beaten before.
Then, for some reason, they made Ash suck again in Unova without any explanation at all. I HATED the BW series. It was complete garbage. I could barely watch through it all.
Luckily, Ash is back to his Sinnoh greatness in the current XY series. The Kalos League starts next week and I'm eagerly looking forward to it. Ash has some good, fully evolved Pokémon and his Greninja has unique power that will certainly work to their advantage. However, I fear that Team Flare will interrupt the Kalos League before it's finished, because the episode after the next one will have two of Ash's rivals battle for a place in the semi-finals. That seems oddly rushed to me, so I believe this League will get interrupted and they will try again after they've saved Kalos from Team Flare. I really want Ash to win this time because he really deserves it, but I should probably prepare myself for another bitter disappointment. Too bad the writers of Pokémon don't seem to get that Ash could still stay as the main character in the next series even if he wins the Kalos League. Winning a League Tournament doesn't make him a Pokémon Master, it only gives him the right to challenge the Elite Four. Ash is pretty good, but I doubt he's match for the Elite Four yet, so the writers could easily make Ash go to Alola after losing to the Elite Four.
Sorry for the rant. Touchy subject.
No, Ash and his friends (or anyone else in the show) don't seem to age. There's no explanation for it whatsoever, we're just supposed to accept it. They're like the Simpsons - we see time pass, but it doesn't affect anyone. Not physically, at least.
Yeah. There are lots of Trainer Schools in the show, but since not EVERYONE is a Trainer, it can be assumed that there are also regular schools for people who want to have real jobs. There doesn't seem to be an upper age limit to being a Trainer, however, so many adults can also spend their time walking through forests and mountains catching Pokémon and living off the government money.

Ehhh..all that is, is chibi-Tedd doing the Jigglypuff song. I don't see how that would still count.

Ooh, I'm really happy to finally see all this info collected in one page. I always enjoy conception/development info, and I kinda forgot most of it by now
I seriously want a storyarc in which Sarah can say nothing other than "Sarah", though. That sounds hilarious.

I know sexual attraction isn't necessary for conception, but it still seems rather icky to have to engage in things you physically don't enjoy.  That's why I generally picture Ellen being the one to carry a pregnancy -- she's bisexual, and while she calls herself homoromantic, I suspect that she'd find Manase emotionally fulfilling, too, just becau she'd know it's her true love in there.  Instead of Nanase having to close her eyes and think of England, Ellen and Manase could have some actual *fun* while creating offspring!

On this page, Dan is making use of some (basic) cinematography that I don't remember paying attention to the last few times I read it. (Panel 1 and 9 in particular)
    I'm not sure why I feel the need to point it out (most of you are probably thinking "well, duh"), but it just kinda proves to me even further than Dan is an awesome storyteller. And knew how to use his panels even back in 2005 ^_^;

You guys are going to laugh at me, but this is the first time I realized that everyone in this room looks female, except for Susan. Suddenly, I have a way deeper understanding of what Susan is feeling in panel 4, haha. I feel a bit stupid for not really realizing what it implied when everyone in the room is female and Susan decides to be the first person to go male. It's the important details that can be hard to notice but make EGS infinitely re-readable.

I'd just say that they're friends and leave it at that, I don't think there is anything special between them. Ellen's a lot closer to Grace mainly because of the time spent together before they started going to school.

Even though I disagree strongly, I respect the courage Dan has shown here.
I was raised to believe that those who claimed to prefer "mild" seasoning were culinary wimps.  I may have been wrong about that broad generalization.
But I still contend that those in the highest levels of the food service business have done a disservice to their customers by not including Spicy AND Sweet as a standard option.

Grace and Ellen are Sparring / Training partners and Playmates.
Sensei Greg is the Martial Arts instructor for Ellen, Elliot, Grace, Justin, & Nanase
And even though there is absolutely no canonical evidence to support this speculation, I still contend that Vladia is Greg's girlfriend.

I know Elliot initially was suspicious of Grace when she first showed up and they found out that she wasn't fully human. But there hasn't been too much interaction between the two aside from group sessions at Tedd's place. I'd say they're friends at the very least, he trusts Grace because her and Ellen are close friends and Grace is Tedd's girlfriend.
Back in Family Tree. And it was shown again in So a Date when Diane was fangirling over Nanase's magic.

No so much a notice on reread but I was looking at over the questions that were submitted for the Q&A on patreon and someone had asked about Dan's choice of naming Tara and Andrea and whether or not he named them after the voice actors for MLP:FiM. Turns out the reason why Ashley thought Tara sounded like Raven from Teen Titans was in fact because Tara Strong voiced Raven as well as Twilight Sparkle, Andrea Libman voiced Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy.
Dan did seem to play it off as saying he considered many names for her, but liked Tara better. I don't think it was random coincidence though.
