Hmm. Possibility of Abraham being from that half of the world as well?
Also, I'm guessing something vaguely Arthurian for the Griffin world.
Also also, it's pretty amusing seeing "do you know how many laws of physics you're breaking" coming out of the mouth of a flying tiger-bird

Oh, I totally understand that. I tend to use avys I've made myself for that reason. For help with finding appropriate avatars, I do like how Gunnerkrigg Court's forums have an Avatar thread where people will take images from the comic and crop them into avy form. (Gunnerkrigg Forum Thread) It's nice for people to be able to pick like that.
And yeah, I know the vast majority of people by faces, not names. I'm just really bad at remembering them. Takes months of knowing a person to really lock in their name. Forums make it even harder, so I rely on Avatars mostly. (I was constantly getting @HarJIT and @hkmaly mixed up until the former got an avatar, for instance. I believe I actively replied to one when meaning to reply to the other once, even).

Utahraptor is a different genus than Velociraptor. Additionally, Dromaesaurines (Deinonychus and Utahraptor, among others) are a different branch than Velociraptorines.
So, being a bit pedantic, there are no giant Velociraptors, Asian or no. The little guys were about the size of a German Shepard. Would come up just above the average human male's knee if it was standing normally. (Though including tail would be roughly 2m long). But if you were speaking of Utahraptor, then yes, those guys are "American" (for values of American that mean "fossils found in modern America" ). These guys were big, unlike Velociraptor. Standing normally they'd be taller than the average human, and including tail would be roughly 7m long. About the size of a Polar Bear. Another "American" raptor was Deinonychus, the closest thing we know of to Jurassic Park's Velociraptor in size.
I believe that all Velociraptors have been Asian, though, with the majority of them being found in Mongolia.
Additionally, Dromaesaurines, like Velociraptorines, were almost certainly feathered creatures. We have confirmation of such in Velociraptors, and strong strong evidence for the others in these groups.

It's going to be a while before this is up and running again, since while I still have and use my notebook, it's been a while since I've updated it and I relied on the thread in the old forum to remind me of when I left off. I've heard rumors of an attempt at data recovery, but barring that I'll probably have to recount a lot of things to make sure I'm on track.

    EDIT:
It occurs to me that the rules for appearances were in the original thread, which was deleted. Here are my criteria:
    -On panel appearance (duh)
    -Off panel dialogue
-Partial appearance. This one is iffy, but I usually require around 25% visibility (or a face) AND clarity as to who the character is. Said clarity must exist in the strip itself, not including context from previous strips. Rare exceptions have been made to the visibility requirement, such as when The Boar died and only its hoof was visible, but I generally stick pretty hard to it.
    -Flashbacks and fantasy sequences count
-Recurring apparitions that are not real, such as Susan's personality aspects, are counted as "semi-characters"
-Characters with alter-egos (such as Elliot) receive credit for the appearances of those alter-egos, and the alter-egos themselves receive credit as semi-characters
-If two alter-egos appear in the same strip (like Cheerleadra and Heidi, say) they would both receive individual credit, but Elliot would only be counted once
-Different versions of the same character, like Zeus/Jerry, or any alternate universe versions like Beta Tedd or Second Life Ellen, are counted as separate characters

There were a couple of posts here that just vanished!
After looking at them, I decided that these were too helpful.
So, they have been moved!  Up under our Blog section, you'll now see the "Info for New Users" blog.  Any tips that we see here that the Moderators or Administrators feel is really good, we'll move it from here up to that blog.
Keep all the good work, everyone!

Yes, this please. BBCode or basic HTML or something other than in addition to WYSIWYG. (I'd also take Markdown).
Also, there's a bit of a bug in the profile area. When putting in date of birth, both the first two boxes are the month of birth...and no option for the day. And it throws an error if you don't put at least the month and the day.
Good luck with the data recovery. I'd like to see some of the stuff preserved as well.
EDIT: Also, another bug report: The "Location" info underneath the user's post count has formatting issues. If you just put "Texas - USA" in the box, for instance, what appears to show is "LocationTexas - USA". So I had to put ": Texas - USA" to make it look right.
Maybe a bug report forum / subforum would be a good idea?
EDIT2: Also, I know this is probably a big ask, but is there any possibility of a dark theme (Grey or black) being offered? I like the general design and layout, but the bright white is quite blinding.

Good idea, I'll throw together a post real quick with some of the basic info I've figured out from playing around on the forums the past hour or so :). It won't stay accurate for too long, due to upgrades and other such stuff being done as the forums get put into order (Like @Robin has implied that BBCode will probably be coming as soon as it gets fixed on the forum software end, and in the meantime if we wish [and we {or at least I} definitely do] they'll turn on HTML formatting for us).
But some basic stuff on how the editor seems to be working would be good, and then others can add what they've figured out to it as well.
EDIT: And done. Here's the thread as promised:

Unknown at this moment. We'll probably get clarification in the next page.
    This would be nice.
Hah, I seem to have figured out a way to force nested quotes. (You have to multiquote both posts, then drag one quote inside the other in the WYSIWYG editor). Also, I agree with Changer.
This post is an example of why we need the nesting quotes. Is this even possible to understand in context without following the linkback three different times? Now what if we had an entire chain going on, with multiple multiquote responses? Anyways, I think the GPS, Internet, SMS integration would be a cool thing.

ALSO, just so everyone knows: On these boards hitting enter adds a new line in between the line you're writing on and the next thing you type. Like so:
: See? No need to hit the enter button twice to spread paragraphs out. Now, if you need merely a carriage return and not an empty new line between them, hit "shift+enter" to get the next line without excess spacing. Like so:
    : see?

Speaking from experience working on the backend of another forum - When Robin says we're starting fresh, he means FRESH. The forum is starting from scratch due to the accident regarding the old server and its hard drives.

Now - speaking personally as an IT tech primarily and admin/server maintainer on another forum secondarily - it should be possible to get the old forum data from the old server drives, BUT that will take a fair bit of time (and probably money) depending on the level of technical work needed to be done to rescue the data. Whilst it would be nice to get it all back, there likely WILL be a point where the cost-benefit ratio doesn't work in favour of getting the data back.

I'm not sure if prolonging this storyline with more forms is actually worth it ... but maybe it's just because I'm not interested in male forms the same way I'm interested in female ones
Also, maybe Dan will surprise with something ... like, another bit of general mechanism?

Good luck with recovery. There are definitely posts I would like preserved.
Meanwhile, can you get the option of editing the source back? I mean, write the posts in bbcode instead of WYSIWYG.
