My Uncle once told me about the time he jumped off a mountain and landed without getting hurt - because the part of the mountain he jumped off of was a small rock at the base of the mountain.

The spell needs to be spoken to be cast, not written, so I don't think the spelling matters. Besides, Tedd's spelling is going to be just as accurate as that of the translation site he was using, so if the spelling is wrong it's the website's fault. Considering that he inks digitally, making changes shouldn't be that hard. So long as he doesn't have to completely redraw the entire panel a mistake shouldn't increase the page's drawing time too much. (Mind you, I'm assuming that he at least had the basic layout of the comic worked out before he started inking; if things were so up in the air that panel size could change or the comic could undergo major restructuring then staring in on the inking could indeed lead to a lot of wasted time or at least a sub-optimal comic layout.) -
I don't get what the point of bringing in a slightly larger mirror was, either in-story or out-of-story. Hopefully this will be made clear in future updates. Also, yay for starburst background in panel eight!

From what I remember of those days, you were just the sort of moderator we needed back then. Someone less aggressive might have let too much slide (I'm pretty sure I would have). As a moderator you might be a less ideal match for the current more sedate forums, but I still think you're a good moderator. You may pull out the moderator red a little fast at times, but you always give people warnings before taking any more drastic action (in fact, I don't think I've even seen you do anything more drastic than lock a thread since I returned). ...This has gotten me thinking of the work you do for this forum, and have done for years, and while it's on my mind I'd like to say "thank you" for that work.

The EGS forums are also the only forums on 910 CMX that have had any posts at all since August besides Heroes of Crash (which since June has only had posts by the author presenting new strips); many haven't had any new posts in a year or more...

Political Discussion Thread (READ FIRST POST)

And investigation of alleged corruption of the President is part of the House of Representatives' job. Regardless of their motives I'm glad they're doing that job. -
Much like a love potion, the "chicken squawk" potion would seem to be the sort of potion designed for tricking other people into drinking rather than intentionally drinking oneself. Perhaps it's marketed as being for using on oneself to get around legal issues? (Speaking of which, I'm reminded of how disturbing it is in Harry Potter that love potions aren't illegal.)

Well, I guess this provides an explanation for why Tedd wasn't wearing the glasses earlier in the day, though it still feels a little bit like a retcon. Anyway, yay for starburst backgrounds in panels one and two!

I'm slipping; I didn't even notice until the panel was posted on it's own on Discord: Yay for wide-rayed starburst background in panel two! Hence the tradition of the Witch's broom. I've been getting more nearsighted since at least my pre-teens (I first realized I needed glasses when I was 11). The process slowed down in my 20s and even more in my 30s, but it has never stopped, and my eye doctor has not given my any indication it's ever going to get better.

The idea that the squinting had anything to do with Tedd's magic-reading ability never occurred to me; I always assumed it was foreshadowing for Tedd getting glasses at some future date (with enough built in vagueness that Dan could drop the idea if he decided he didn't feel like doing that after all). In fact, I'm pretty sure he said either in a commentary or on social media around that time that he was considering giving Tedd prescription glasses at some point. Personally, I liked the idea, and have been hoping Dan would follow through on it ever since. One thing that does bug me about this reveal however is the timing within this story. Tedd has been without glasses in all her appearances so far "today"; why did she pick now to put them on? I'm sure that will be a thing roughly around the same time we start seeing uncensored non-furry nudity in the comic.

I think pirate power levels are based on a combination of how high ranking they are and how cool/intimidating they look (with things like eye patches, prosthetic hooks, and peg-legs offering a substantial bonus in power).

While they might not be part of the "Disney Princess" merchandising franchise (or so I assume, I haven't checked), Vanellope was welcomed as one of their own by the other Disney Princesses in Wreck It Ralph 2, and if I remember correctly, Alice counted as a Princess in Kingdom Hearts.

I was going to guess the Adolphone.

I believe I saw a few episodes as a kid, or at least parts of episodes. However, all I remember at this point is the beginning song (I believe Cheers was on after a show I did watch regularly, so I saw the beginning regardless of whether anyone was going to watch the show itself... also, I have a good memory for music).

I don't remember my math classes ever teaching much logic, at least prior to high-school. It was mostly just "here's the procedure" followed by endless sets of equations for us to practice the procedure on. I mean I suppose word problems required a bit of logic to figure out what numbers you needed, but very few of my teachers ever bothered to explain how you figure out which numbers to use (and even they usually thought explaining just once or twice was good enough). Not surprisingly, a lot of students had a hard time with word problems and wound up hating them. Personally, I rather liked word problems, but unfortunately many of my math teachers seemed to think they were doing us a favor by not making use of them much or at all. I hated math class because I did math so slowly that I almost never got what I needed done in class... And my math homework took so long that it felt like it was using up almost all of my free time (other homework usually wasn't a problem). My parents tried flash-cards to help me memories my multiplication tables, but there were some I was never able to memorize no matter how hard I tried. (Heck, I never even managed to memorize all the single-digit addition equations; to this day a lot of my "math" involves counting.) That said, I did enjoy algebra classes, despite how time--consuming they still were.

It got lost in a time warp. (But seriously, this is far from the first time Dan has mis-numbered a comic.)

When I was in school calculators were readily available but usually weren't allowed in the classroom. I learned to do arithmetic on paper and in my head, but it was an ordeal (I don't remember what it was called, but I actually was diagnosed with a math-related disability). While I may know the methods, my results are still extremely unreliable (there have even been a few times as an adult I've gotten the wrong number adding single-digit numbers), and I pretty much need to rely on a calculator or computer for any important math.

Or, you can learn a really powerful spell and transform into an alicorn. At least, I've heard that's how it works in Equestria. (Disclaimer: I only watched the first three seasons and a few episodes of the fourth of Friendship is Magic, and it's been years since I watched it at all, so my information may be incomplete.)

I suppose I really should have included a link to that post as well... (I did come across it when I was doing my search, but it wasn't the post I was looking for so I ignored it.) Thanks for correcting my mistake. At any rate, while apparently at the time of Painted Black Dan felt there were infinite Tedds, I was also wondering if based on what Dan said in the post I quoted, whether it makes more sense for there to be an infinite or finite number of Tedds. It seems to me with those limitations (and with the limitation that a "Tedd" presumably has to be the child of the alternates of Edward and Noriko Verres and have similar genetics), finite makes more sense... but then, I'm not that good with math or numbers, so I don't entirely trust my own judgement on that. *sigh* That's what I get for trying to make a joke about something I don't really understand... I did read the Hilbert's Paradox article when you linked it, and thought I understood the basic concept, but I apparently was distracted by the narrative elements of the thought experiment and didn't even realize I had failed to grasp the concept it was trying to illustrate. (Most of the article went over my head.) I think I understand the concept now (but then I thought that before, too). As for those other two articles you linked, I think I picked up a few bits and pieces here and there, but I'm afraid they were mostly unintelligible to me. I would expect that a scientific theory of merging timelines would say that for two timelines to merge they must be identical at all but the quantum level as of the time of the merge. For a story, it depends on the author. If I was writing such a story, and was just trying to get rid of redundant worlds (not play around with the repercussions of mergings that aren't seamless) I'd go with something like what hkmaly said above; when the two world are so similar that neither any of the characters nor the reader would be able to tell the difference between the worlds, they become one.

Yay for starburst-with-rings-around-it background in panel four!

Okay, so I did some searching, and couldn't find a statement by Dan that the EGS multiverse was finite; in fact I found a couple of posts where he says the opposite. Either Dan changed his mind at some point and I didn't search hard enough, or I was remembering wrong. That said, he did say that not all possible universes actually exist. (If I was remembering wrong, this is probably the post I was mis-remembering.) http://forums.keenspot.com/viewtopic.php?p=2847238#p2847238 So I guess the question regarding the Lord Tedd issue is: in an infinite multiverse that does not include extremely-low-probability universes or essentially identical universes, would there still be an infinite number of Tedds? ... is usually more or less just as big. In fact, you would need a VERY exotic definition of "fraction" to make it smaller. Normal "fraction" will end up just a variation of Hilbert's paradox of the Grand Hotel. Nonsense! It's just a smaller infinity! ...Which would still be infinitely large, so I suppose you have a point...

Something like this (perhaps minus Shade Tail orchestrating things) does seem to have been Dan's original plan; I'm pretty sure Dan admitted at one point that Lord Tedd as originally presented was inspired by the movie "The One" (which involved a villain who became more powerful the more alternate universe versions of himself he killed). I've thought the same. It seems the best way to reconcile what we learned of Lord Tedd in Sister and Painted Black. I have to wonder however if Dan will have changed the story again by time we actually get around to Lord Tedd being relevant again... I don't feel like searching for it right now, but I believe Dan said back in the Keenspot days that the EGS multiverse is comprised of a finite number of universes. Of course it's been so long he could have changed his mind, but the finite multiverse is probably what he had in mind when he wrote the Lord Tedd stuff back in Painted Black.

There was a Pokemon-themed puzzle game on 3DS like that which I played a bit of (without ever paying anything), but it got frustrating how just when I was really getting into the game I'd need to take a break. Also, I don't like to turn on a gaming system just to play something for a few minutes, so unless I feel like playing a little bit of that puzzle game then switching to something else (or vice versa), it just isn't convenient for me to play. (I might feel differently if it was on something that I had on most of the time, like a phone... But then again I never fire up any games on my computer to play for just a few minutes, so maybe playing games for a few minutes at a time just doesn't appeal to me.)

I don't follow. I mean, I suppose the fact that Ferengi see naked women so often could lead to them becoming desensitized to it, but the fact that it's considered normal would also make it unlikely they'd comment on it either. (Also, this comic implies Rich and Larry would have found her sexy if she was wearing more clothes. It's been a long time since I watched DS9 -- do you remember Ferengi ever saying they found clothed women sexy? I thought that it mainly just offended the sensibilities of more conservative Ferengi.)

I haven't actually played any games like that (these days most of the games I play are by small indie developers and/or on older consoles), though I have heard of them, and agree they're far worse. (I actually passed up Diablo III and one of the Sim City games because they required an always-on internet connection and I didn't have that at the time.) Another recent video game trend I despise, one I refuse to participate in on principle, is the "freemium"/"pay-to-win" style game. I can tolerate buying bonus levels and characters and the like when they feel like significant new content added to an already fun game, but I cannot tolerate paying real money for in-game consumables or other content of little long-term value, and if the game isn't fun without paying for extra stuff, I'm not going to play the game at all.
