      Welcome!   03/05/2016

Welcome, everyone, to the new 910CMX Community Forums. I'm still working on getting them running, so things may change.  If you're a 910 Comic creator and need your forum recreated, let me know and I'll get on it right away.  I'll do my best to make this new place as fun as the last one!

  1. Videogame Thread

    Only the inattentive ones.
  2. NP: Wednesday, August 10, 2016

Given the age range of the people she's asking, it's not surprising that they have sex on the brain, at least subconsciously.
  3. Story: Wed, Aug 10, 2016

And it is a very good thing for Grace (whose mind is still hosting them) that Pandora has not chosen a more destructive manner for her tantrum. Pandora may in fact be holding back for this very reason, and will more properly vent herself when she is safely isolated from anybody who might be injured.
  4. Story Friday August 5, 2016

Of course it's a Möbius Strip--you follow it to the end, and find that you're right back where you started after having had your life turned upside down.
  5. Things That Make You Happy

Grand Arseny sounds cooler. How so you even fit six adults into a Fiat 500? Even two people in the back seat are shoulder-to-shoulder--fitting in five passengers besides the driver will at minimum mean that somebody has no seatbelt.

It depends on whether the ignorance is willful or not. If somebody is putting their head in the sand in order to maintain deniability, then it's their own fault, but if they don't know of something because it happens to be obscure (e.g. something that's only available in a language that they don't know), then I can't fault them for not knowing. Willful ignorance ("I don't want to know") is IMO worse than indifference, because one is deliberately avoiding forming a mental picture of the thing being ignored.

Well, when you said "classic code ring message", I figured it had to involve Ovaltine.
  8. Story Monday August 1, 2016

    Drink Your Ovaltine?
  9. Miscellaneous Questions

"Magic Itself" may not be a single unified entity for the entire multiverse, but may instead be localized to each planet/biosphere, with a separate mind/will/whatever for each. Thus, we are dealing with the "Magic" of EGS-Prime Earth, whereas say, the Alpha Earth (Lord Tedd's world) would be unaffected.
  10. What are you learning?

Ouch. I tripped over a curb recently for the first time in years. Scraped a knee, but I'm more annoyed that a brand-new pair of pants got a hole torn in the knee.
  11. All Things Ashley

Also, given Ashley's age, it would be her great-grandparents--her grandparents would have been kids during WWII.

Don't forget that Sydney is also probably getting the various hazard and combat deployment additions to her paycheck, given that she is already expected to participate in potentially lethal combat.

It would only take megatons if the matter were being created "ex nihilo". If instead the component atoms were drawn from the surrounding air and ground, then it would only require the chemical energy amount (a few thousand kilocalories/megajoules). If the Fairy Doll is 1/6 of Nanase's height, then it masses about 1/200 of her weight--about 250-300 grams (8-10 ounces). The chemical energy contained in a mammal of that weight with the fat/muscle proportions of Nanase is in the ballpark of two thousand kilocalories, and we can multiply that by a factor of three or so to reflect the energy cost of gathering and assembling the atoms.
  14. Story Friday August 5, 2016

Well, this page tells us why "Question Mark" had to happen when it did. In-story, not even eight hours have passed since Pandora left Sarah after explaining Sarah's new spell, and now Pandora has had her entire plan called into question.
  15. Pinup Wed, Aug 3rd

Possibly. The form that Elliot used at the Mall is supposed to be fairly short--like "just a little taller than Rhoda" short. "Mild-Mannered" form meanwhile is (IIRC) about the same height as Elliot's default female height (so same height as Ellen).
  16. The TF Gun apparently has power cells capable of converting electrical energy into transformation-powering magical energy (though it is probably Uryuom-type magic instead of Human-type magic). If Tedd works on it, he may be able to create a power cell that works for Human-type magical energy. According to the Whale, a device that could store energy for transformations would be bulkier than the watches, but they could still be made into a portable device.
  17. What are you learning?

Nah, I was a little kid back then. I'm just BARELY able to remember when the only Star Trek was TOS, for example. I'll pass on the New Coke though.
  18. NP, Friday August 5, 2016

That would be fun, but being able to morph away the fairy wings when needed would help with fitting into tiny spaces. But yes, being able to have a fairy doll avatar in first-person perspective and being able to choose/control the fairy doll's appearance would be awesome. I can live without the "persistence" part if that's too much trouble (i.e. the doll continuing to exist after I end the spell--according to Andrea this aspect is rare and takes a lot of power).
  19. NP, Friday July 29, 2016

Yeah, given the size of the Verres house and the fact that Tedd does not have a car despite having a license--nor even had a cell phone until after "Sister"--implies that Edward's income is not spectacularly high--he probably gets paid the going rate for a FBI sub-department head. Edward is Lawful Good to a sufficient degree that saving the world from people like not-Tengu is in itself part of the motivation for his loyalty.
  20. Story Monday August 1, 2016

The Enigma had a number of weaknesses to its design that were unimportant when codebreakers were doing everything the slow way with pencil and paper, but that proved fatal when the Allies invented electronic computers capable of operating hundreds of times faster than humans. Most famously, the text characters were always swapped around such that no character was EVER mapped to itself (i.e. you could be certain that the letter "a" in the cypertext was NEVER an "a" in the plaintext, and the same for "b", "c", etc.). This drastically reduced the keyspace to a small fraction of what would have been available if any character could have been anything whatsoever without restriction (i.e. true pseudorandomization).
  21. What are you learning?

Meh, I've been out of MY mind since the 1980s.
  22. Pandora is Being Framed

From what we know now about Pandora, she might have chosen her name BEFORE Erasmus wrote his translation (which, after all, was less than 500 years ago, and she's claimed to be 299 for "centuries", so she's likely older than 500), so she would have been going off of some other translation (or providing her own, if she bothered to learn to read Attic-era Greek).
  23. Story Friday August 5, 2016

She still definitely wants a world where he can fight for his ideals in the open, but she's just been informed that the "Make Magic more widespread in general" plan is A Bad Idea, so she is probably going to come up with a new plan.
  24. Grace can precision-guide a single object (such as when she made the paper plane stick in Justin's ear), but multiple objects on dissimilar trajectories may be beyond her without a LOT of practice.
  25. Susan has had a car ever since before "Night Out" (if not longer), so them driving to Chicago Comic Con (only a couple hours away) is far more reasonable than flying across the country for San Diego Comic Con.
