My brother's girlfriend foisted two more kittens on us several months ago.  And, of course, we couldn't afford to fix either of them.
Cut to this morning, and the girl of the duo is a proud mother of five.  So tiny...

Why would it depend on that? If Raven really wanted to train Grace and/or her friends, he could easily talk to them outside of class. Still, I think it's up to the Main Eight to ask him first if they want his help.
I'm sure DGB has some competent magic teachers, but yes, I also think it'd be wiser to train with Greg or Raven. Arthur may not be an antagonist, but he doesn't seem to be very useful as a leader and I doubt he'd want a bunch of kids learning magic under his supervision, especially since he still wants to keep the availability of magic a secret. Of course, I could be wrong and the only way he would want those kids to learn magic would be under his supervision, but that might not end well.
I agree with all of this.
Like Scotty already said, Raven most likely sensed Justin's power as well. My guess is that he sensed the skills Justin had learned at the ASMA dojo before he got his mark.
Anyway, wow, I was way off when I said that Raven doesn't know about most of the Main Eight. I think you're right, Sarah and Susan are probably the only ones he hasn't met or heard of. Noah told him about Elliot, but it's unknown if Noah told him that Elliot is Ellen's brother, though I don't see why he wouldn't have told him that.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot, EVERYONE knows Elliot now, so it really doesn't even matter how much Raven knew about him before.
This theory has some holes in it. I don't doubt that Pandora was the one who slowed the flow of magic in Moperville years ago, but it can't have happened when Raven first moved there. Remember, Raven taught Tedd's parents and Nanase's mom in high school and the whale said that Moperville had had more magic than usual for "most of Tedd's life" - in other words, long after Raven moved to Moperville and taught Tedd's parents.
I believe that Raven had a big fight with his mother fourteen years ago for whatever reason, and that's when she decided to slow the flow of magic in Moperville to either give her son more magic to use as an apology or to see him struggle to figure out just what the hell had happened.

I'd say that if ever the road to hell were paved with good intentions, this may just end up being it. Nanase looks like she's going to have some particularly choice words for Helena and Demetrius.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Dan's said that he planned for the main arc of EGS to be post high school, back when initially developing the comic. My bet is that we're heading towards a Justice League, Avengers, or Incredibles style superhero team when they hit their college years.

Grace is not against battle games with cartoonish violence and we know she has already played some Pokémon. In one sketchbook, she told Sarah that she caught a Furfrou and named it Susan.
Granted, that might not have been canon, but it was still funny and I can totally see her doing that.

Considering there would be multiple witnesses (that's including those at the mall that saw Tara) saying there were magical griffins. Edward would certainly have a hard time not believing him.

"I'm basing my theory on the possibility that there aren't any other drains close enough to catch the overflow. "
That isn't theoretically possible unless there's only one drain. If there are two drains then eventually the buildup will reach the other one.
The functional definition of "eventually" matters a lot, though.

    Probably other dice/coins.
Likely not only one. Andrea said "one of the spots" and it will likely be valid for both "directions".
It's likely not world-wide catastrophe, but there will be local problem - possible area where it's harder for mages to replenish their magic reserves.
... aaand, possibly it's harder for people to awaken in that area.
Another idea: what if Lord Tedd and Magus are from different halves of the same universe? Of course, that would invalidate pet theory of some people here that Magus is Elliot alternate and Terra Tedd's alternate.
Sort of mind. Yes, definitely. It's not like clog in Moperville can affect whole universe including the Uryuom planet.
Maybe it's already happening. Remember that even after "fixing" the balance between universes the local anomaly of Moperville may remain. Or yes: magic having flair for dramatic will prefer solution which would be flashy and sudden instead of smooth and hard to notice, but the buildup needs to have some size before flashy solution can happen.
... and the system change may or may not be related. I see two separate issues here: the inbalance of magic, magic clog and buildup AND the end of masquerade, more magic users and currently unknown parts of Pandora's plan and system change. Pandora is using the magic buildup to power the end of masquerade, maybe even caused it, but it's just tool for her, the goal is end of masquerade. And magic may respond independently to the clog itself and to the general danger of Pandora's plan.

I would think if it was that simple, magic would have done so already, either diverted the flow to say Detroit or Thunder Bay, or even create a new drain in Chicago. I'm guessing that magic, having a flair for the dramatic, also wants to see what the main eight does to fix this and is tossing hints here and there (via Disco Wizard) while munching on a bowl of popcorn. The system change would be a last resort if the main eight fails and/or things go too wildly out of hand.
By that description alone, it's pretty clear that magic is portrayed by Dan.

I agree. Remember, magic has a mind of its own (probably). I'm sure it would figure out how to restore the balance sooner or later.

I think that the two "halves" are really co-equal, and the naming of their own half as the "first" one is simple cultural provincialism--neither is actually "first" or "second" except for the order in which a given society discovered them, sort of like how the "New World" was always here even though the people of the "Old World" didn't know about it.

So the energy clog is stopping magic from entering the griffins' world? That doesn't sound good. If I had to guess, I'd say it probably doesn't make the magic users in that world weaker, but it might stop them from learning new magic. Then again, Andrea pretty much said that Moperville is not the only place where magic travels between the two worlds, so maybe the problem is not at the griffins' end at all. They might just be worried that this half of the world can't handle too much ambient magic.
    Also, haha, Steven Universe. Awesome.
I believe all those universes are different coins, but if the dice theory is more correct, then it's entirely possible that all the universes seen in the comic so far are connected to each other.
Absolutely. I just wish I had been the first one to say it.

Ah, okay.  So it's like a duplex in a neighbourhood of universes... or an apartment building on a city block full of apartment buildings, if the dice theory is correct.
I would imagine that magical energy was supposed to flow freely between the two worlds (ley lines?).  I'm sure that there's another, separate spot where Moperville's world gets their magic from the griffon world.

This what was I was talking about where Hedge lied. Damien stated "You should have at least brought back a female." Elliot later asked Hedge about it. And then later still when Nanase and Ellen made their way in, Hedge was concerned about there being women in the Nest and was trying to think about a way to keep Damien from finding out.
You know, Hedge was actually a pretty smart guy, he didn't want Damien to succeed in his plans but he knew he couldn't confront Damien directly so he did everything he could to delay Damien. It was likely his idea to get Grace out of the Nest to find help and then he took as long as possible to "find" her. When he met Elliot, yeah he didn't know that the cat form was caused by a piece of transformation technology but still he knew there was something about Elliot that made him think that he could be useful in some way. Taking only him instead of both him and Sarah insured that a rescue would be made. He probably didn't expect Grace to be part of the rescue team nor other females, but it still resulted in Damien's defeat.

The griffin couple is incredibly endearing. I love them.
And Dan is doing super great on the griffin art in these strips, often times mythical beasts can come out a bit, stale? Lifeless? But Dan's got the knack down for emotive and expressive bird faces.

I don't think they're based on any characters from the show, they're simply themselves ponified and that's just fine with me. Also, I'm glad that Dan didn't make them all unicorns even though everyone in the Main Eight can use magic now. So far we know that Grace is a unicorn and Justin, Sarah and Ellen are Earth ponies. I'm pretty sure that makes Elliot an Earth pony too, considering how Ellen was created. That leaves Tedd, Susan and Nanase. Nanase is a powerful magic user, so she should probably be a unicorn, but hey, she can fly, so she could be a pegasus. What do you guys think? As for Tedd and Susan, they are most likely either unicorns or Earth ponies. It's impossible to have an even number of three races when there are eight main characters, so it really doesn't matter if there is only one pegasus in the Mane Eight.
Oh wait, Nanase has blood of queens inside her. That means she is an Alicorn.
I'm pretty sure it's just a metaphor and Sarah is breaking the fourth wall a little.

Susan's had at least 3 arcs where she's had some character growth, "Hammerclorians" "Identity" and "Playing with Dolls". I guess "Playing with Dolls" is probably the least significant of the 3 but I consider her expressing her frustration about how she looks and the comments from people on the review show as growth. "Identity" was split between her and Elliot but her discovering that she's got a thing for watching others and the later coming to terms with not being ready for a physical relationship is a big deal. And of course, "Hammerclorians" was all Susan telling Sarah and Grace things she had kept buried for a while that probably affected her almost as, if not as much as finding her dad with another woman. I guess the segment of Grace's birthday where Susan and Justin nearly hook up was significant as well since it was an eye opener for her and helped reshape her views on males.
All in all, I think Susan's probably evolved the most over the course of the comic considering she started off as a man-hating feminist who thought Elliot was an A-hole to having a conflict of feeling over the possibility of dating him. Add that she's a Trekkie and yeah, she's my fave.
As for backstories, it's hard to say who's is most significant, I mean yeah the Susan and Diane connection is something we all want to know more about, but Tedd and Nanase's family history ranks pretty high as well with why Noriko left, Adrian's involvement, what's special about Tedd and the whole Lord Tedd deal. Also the fact that Nanase's mom knows more than she's letting on.
Grace would be next with her though he backstory is now known to everyone who was was involved. Though there's still the very high possibility of her being a key player in the Lord Tedd and General Shade Tail storyline if Dan gets around to it.
After that it kinda drops off some, Ellen's backstory is known as well to everyone in the main 8 as well as her parents and Edward and Greg. What isn't known is directly tied to Elliot in terms of Magus and Pandora's involvment in Ellen's creation and why the immortals Helena and Demetrius have been following Elliot for it seems some time before their improper deaths.
Then there's Justin who's backstory involved him and Melissa which has pretty much been concluded unless Dan decides to bring them together as good friends through Noah or something. His involvement with Luke could prove interesting though.
Sarah has the least interesting background really, grew up with Elliot, unfortunately kept in the dark about Elliot's after school activities until shortly after the comic started. No mysterious past. What she has going for her is basically what's developed fairly recently, IE her breakup with Elliot and delving into magic with Tedd, and the most significant bit being her getting marked by Pandora.
I think it's safe to say that they're all involved in the overarching plot of Pandora though.
