... and considering the quite high probability some people are descendants of multiple immortals, that would make VERY BAD territorial disputes. (In fact, baring some very hard interference from Will of Magic or something like that and considering how long ago the elves started those lines of descendants, MOST people should now be descendants of MOST immortals who ever had children. But we were already discussing that.)

I didn't linked them? Hmmm ... ok I didn't. Both are obviously linked from Charizard page (ok I forgot to link that one as well): Move Tutor and TM82 Dragon Tail. I must admit I don't know much about them either, as Move Tutor first appeared in Crystal and quite limited and TM82 is from Generation 5 ... so I meant it more like "Charmander nor its evolutions don't learn such moves normally". Or "for free" - both TMs and Move Tutors are limited opportunity options.

The Semitic language group is funny in that it only has comparatively few distinct vowel sounds. This meant that they could get away with a simplified alphabet that only included consonants; vowels could usually be deduced from context. It is for the same reason that the Egyptian hieroglyphs did not include vowel sounds. Thanks for confirmation. Likely with explanation like "because we can". Sure, Semitic CAN leave out vowels and English CAN render thirteen vowels with five letters, but just because they can doesn't make it good idea. Ooh, me likey. I'd love to see that. It might be good line of defense for the "minimal change" proponents. ... however, I'm mostly afraid we wouldn't see the negotiation AT ALL.
  4. Story Wednesday August 1, 2018

No. But I guess silhouettes can easily remind multiple people. Yeah, panel 6 seems like all the memories that Pandora saved are starting to flood back. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that she could still be taking in the memories like she's reading from her previous self's diary, but it's probably more like someone who suffered from amnesia having their memories jogged and the emotional connection would return. So while Zeus remembers Susan as "the girl Jerry vowed to help" and being compelled to continue whether he wanted to or not, Pandora will be like "this is who I was to these people, this is who I still am." At least for the most part. Hopefully. I would say that so far it wasn't exactly convincing, on the other hand, this is not the part of her memory she needs emotional connection to. Now, commentary. How long do you think before Dan will make story longer than 310 pages? Three storylines? Four? The one with Noriko is likely going to have similar number of plot threads. And, obviously, Lord Tedd one. If both happens in single storyline, it can reach 500.

No clue what those are, was mainly thinking about possible size increase making her tail heavier/harder to be able to whack stuff. That's real world thinking. Pokemons are weird creatures who can only know four attack moves from limited set. There are several attacks with tail, including Tail Whip, Poison Tail and Tailwind, but only one can be learn by Charmeleon - Iron Tail, by move tutor - and another by Charizard, Dragon Tail, by using TM82. For some weird reason, they are not capable to learn anything with their tail on their own. Although to be fair, that's only attack moves. Most bird pokemons fly, but none can use the Fly attack move without TM/HM. Granted, the Fly attack move involves being able to carry player between cities, so it's like advanced flying. Especially for small pokemons like Pidgey.

Correction. Number of fairies that we know, whom we expect to be "no change" proponents: 0. Yes, true. I'm pretty sure that "YHVH" was just the "we are too cool to write vowels" notation. If they would began as humans, how do you explain the ears? It could be form they chosen when they first started interacting with people. But yes, just because they are shapeshifters (and note that it IS possible their shapeshifting is limited until they get to later age) doesn't mean they don't have some default form. Or sex/gender. Note that Loki is always considered man, despite that episode of him giving birth to Sleipnir.
  7. NP Monday July 30, 2018

For the majority of the games, yeah, but in the first generation game according to that page it's referred to as a "normal type" move with not much else to say what it is. Fire Red/Leaf Green refers to it as a "basic attack that can be used to cut down thin trees and grass" Some of the games listed also say "Scythe, claws, etc" which could imply that it's dependent on the type of pokemon, like if they already had that type of feature then teaching Cut is basically "you can use your scythe, claws, etc to take out that tree!" rather than "here's a scythe, claw, etc to take out that tree!" For pokemon like Machop, definitely the "Nanase vs punching bag" method. Machop can't learn Cut. Probably not, considering most psychic pokemons can't learn it either. Sure, Mew and Celebi can. Also Espeon. She's not, however you can totally cut with a torch. Not without move tutor ... or TM82.
  8. NP Monday July 30, 2018

Someone on discord said that Cut is a physical contact move. So while it can still be a martial arts move, it's probably more in line with how Nanase destroyed the punching bag. When used on pokemon, yes. We can still speculate that it somehow avoids touching the thorns. Or ... wait. The description mentions some scythe.
  9. Story, Monday July 30, 2018

Well, Zeus did say that forcing an immortal to reset just because she was protecting family was a dumb law, so he'd be willing to tweak the laws Right he did. Ok, Zeus is out, number of "no change" proponents: 0. I would think he wouldn't be only one with this. Question is where the majority ends between "we need to make sure we won't have TOO much power" versus "we need to make sure this incident wouldn't repeat". Obviously, there will be SOME rules to keep them in check anyway. But Voltaire is good at rule-bending and we may end up with rules which theoretically limit what immortals can do but practically wouldn't be able to stop Voltaire. I don't know if it's the only way, just the only way I can think of at the moment. The probability of them remembering is likely zero. With Pandora out and Zeus after reset, no immortal we know is likely to remember. So, unless we get yet another immortal who will start to be friendly with our cast (Hanma? Might be too young either.) we need good reason for someone to tell them. There might be something I overlook but I don't think so. If they could handle Immortals -- big if, mind you -- lesser monsters might be seen by them as a welcome relief and light exercise. Frankly, I don't see them as being quite that nitpicky but I do take your point. ... wasn't my point that they can't afford being nitpicky? Generally, every kind of monster requires specific tactic. But yes, even with that I would expect other monsters would end up as light exercise. At least other monsters we know of.
  10. Story, Monday July 30, 2018

There might be a few that would agree with Voltaire, it's uncertain though, I'd like to think that Zeus, Hanma, Helena and Demetrius would be against what Voltaire wants, the 2 new immortals on the page are definite unknowns as well as the unknown number of Immortals out there. I expect that the consensus will be that SOME change will be made and the question will be how big. I mean, Zeus is the only one who I can imagine arguing for no change. Or is that Jerry? Jerry will be arguing for no change but I'm less sure about Zeus. Hanma ... look at her face. She thinks about descendants she might have. ... ok, on one hand, getting it shot down will be bad, but on the other, that's basically our only option to ever find out why they were reset isn't it?
  11. Story, Monday July 30, 2018

Immortals apparently made their laws well before the middle ages, if Pandora's last reset was in the middle ages she probably had numerous resets before then.I also think the agreement to reset every 200 years(give or take) was also around the time the "only guide and empower" law went into effect and I still want to believe that was around the time that Humans stopped worshiping pantheons of gods. That's even worse Note that the "reset every 200 years" is NOT a rule. I think that the agreement was "reset before you go crazy" with the rules helping if immortal won't realize it's already too late for that ... and that LATER it was established that 200 years looks like the correct point. My point was that villagers wouldn't be happy if they called monster hunter and monster hunter complained that it's not the kind of monsters he's hunting. So, as long as they are monster hunter and not village hunters ... Although it is possible they were the worst. If Noriko's family is really THAT old. Yes, it would be most helpful for all the immortals to know that what ever they think of Pandora's sacrifice, it was because Voltaire drove her to it. So which Immortal will be the first to disagree? That's definitely something that should be mentioned. However, are Helena and Demetrius aware that the griffin incident is related to Pandora's sacrifice? They SHOULD if they still paid attention to Elliot ... but we already accused them of slacking in that ... I don't believe they know the details of Voltaire calling up Sirleck and painting a giant target on Adrian, but the griffin incident alone should make the other's wonder what angle Voltaire is coming from, to go from tricking someone into committing murder, to suddenly be all "this is a big tragedy that could have been avoided if we had more freedom to do as we please." heck, if any of them knew how old Pandora was, they'd probably be like "she was able to get away with a lot before she intervened with the vampires, that's what we were trying to avoid with the laws. Best case scenario would be a revision of the guide and empower law to allow for saving lives against monsters. but somehow word it so that Immortals like Voltaire can't make people kill each other for S&G's. It's not about wording. It's about intention. Personally, I think that easier and safer option would be to just exclude aberrations from any protection, however considering Pandora already get rid of most of them, that might be considered too little ... Pretty much, not sure about the "it's always been this way" bit though, Voltaire's main gripe is that Immortals have restricted themselves into impotence which implies they weren't always restricted, I had theorized that the rise of christianity and monotheistic religion in general was due to Immortals pulling back their influence on the various cultures. There might be some Immortals that still do interact more subtly with groups like the modern Pagan and Hindu as you suggested, but the ones like Norse, Greek, Roman, Egyptian at least by how they're depicted in media these days were very in your face "worship us and we'll take care of you, but if you don't...."almost like extortion which sounds a lot like what Voltaire wants. The depiction of gods in today's media is hardly fair ... even very old stuff like the Trojan War legend can be explained with gods being limited by "empower and guide". In fact, Voltaire certainly don't actually remember how it was before current rules, and what he thinks he remember could been edited by his previous incarnations. So, maybe current rules ARE "always this way" ... doesn't matter. As long as immortals would THINK changing the rules would allow them to do stuff depicted in today's movies, it will, no matter if it ever was that way. Note that we have Heka confirming that immortals were called fairies ... and that there ARE other immortal beings. We ASSUME greek gods were fairies, because it makes sense ; but we don't have it CONFIRMED.
  12. Story, Monday July 30, 2018

If there would be war, it wouldn't be about being FAIR. Remember, thousand seers. And there would be lot of other people with strong magic talent who are not aware of it. Without magic reset, it might take some time to activate them, but in case of war ... (Of course, that's just hypothetical scenario. It's very unlikely Dan would like to write about war.) I think you overestimate ability of middle age villagers to differentiate between fairies, aberrations and just evil magic users. I'm sure all could be labelled monsters.

Hmm, that might explain Charlotte's glasses being dark as well--they protect her from being hypnotized by her own Graceamon. (Note that in Pokemon, the Dark Glasses item is a Dark-element boosting item, and Dark element is completely immune to Psychic-element attacks, which implies that wearing Dark Glasses would provide resistance to Psychic attacks.) I can totally see how someone says this to Charlotte and she would be like "Oh, good point, didn't realized it before". I don't think goth types need any excuse to wear dark glasses ... even inside.

  15. NP, Friday July 27, 2018

That dreamy, wavy speaking font that Hypno-Grace uses might imply that she is, indeed, under some mind-altering effect. Also notice her eyes looks same as Justins when hypnotized. Wait ; just realized it actually explains itself! All that weird stuff in pokemon, how people are ok with children catching battle monsters ... everyone was hypnotized to not find it weird.
  16. Story Wednesday July 25, 2018

Well you figured that you not only have to account for every possible instance where the development of the universe itself could go multiple ways, but also every instance for each galaxy, each solar system, each planet, and each individual creature, and once you get to Humans, it really gets complicated because Humans make hundreds of choices every day from what clothes to wear, what to eat, who to talk to, etc, and at this point, 7 billion people means a lot of choices are being made and we still gotta include things happening on the universe, galactic, solar and creature levels as well. if there is a finite number of universes, that number would be absolutely enormous. Meanwhile, if there is infinite number of universes, it doesn't present any problem. For the same reason you can fit countably infinitely many coachloads of countably infinite passengers each into single hotel with a countably infinite number of rooms, all of which are already occupied. That's very interesting and complicated idea for explaining something which can be explained much simpler: human memory is stored in way which is not designed to remain clear. Neural nets like brain are very inefficient regarding reliable data storage, but it was working good enough for practical purposes until like few thousand years ago, which is too short time to evolve something better ... especially considering that even now, it's something which would be nice to have but our live rarely depends on it. However, I have alternative idea: universes which don't differ at all will merge and become stronger in the process. Like, two universes can have different history but get to the same state later. EXACTLY same state, as in noone even remembers the difference - either noone noticed, or they forgot, or the ones who remembered it died ... And the "stronger" part? That's my solution to navigation: all universes are not equal when you want to visit them. The stronger the universe is, the easier is to "tune" your "gate" to it. And the universe is stronger when relatively low number of improbable stuff happened in it, or when it's result of merge of more universes (which may actually be the same) ... or if more people believe in it (that explain why you have any chance at all to hit universe with something as unlikely as life). You don't even need multiple universes to realize that our planets only astronomical significance is that all astronomers we know live on it.
  17. Story Wednesday July 25, 2018

As I recall, way back in the Keenspot days, Dan said that the EGS multiverse contained a finite number of universes. (Unfortunately I don't have a link, and obviously Dan could have changed his mind since then.) EDIT: A little searching on the Keenspot forums brought up this, which for the purposes of this discussion is almost the opposite of what I remembered. I wonder if I was remembering a different statement, or if I was misremembering that one? Also relevant to this discussion: Word of Dan regarding Lord Tedd's Attacks from 2004. ... so, Dan definitely DID saw at least the trailer for that movie ... ... also, he might be underestimating how big infinity is. Most people are. Most people can barely imagine how big our solar system is, and that's not only finite but VERY small in astronomical terms. That said, some things really ARE impossible. Like, it IS technically possible human will be lifted to air by random motion of particles, but any sane universe needs to have at least some rules about cause and effect which makes some combination of events impossible.
  18. Story Wednesday July 25, 2018

That was my thinking as well, the movie was released the year before Dan started the comic, the plot from it would have been seen in trailers, so even if Dan didn't see the actual movie, the idea of a multiverse and a person trying to kill their alternates would have been fairly fresh from the trailers. Right. On the other hand, it IS also possible that while that used to be Lord Tedd's motivation back then, Dan changed it meanwhile to something more though out.
  19. Story, Monday July 23, 2018

I had posted it in the "word of Dan discussion" thread back when he first tweeted it, but here is it: I guess I should look there sometimes and copy the stuff into wiki ... but frankly, there is LOT of stuff I should add to wiki and I definitely don't have time for everything. (I've added this, however.) That is already on wiki.
  20. NP, Friday July 27, 2018

Aaaand hypnosis ... there is lot of potential for hypnosis ... by which I mean it can get squicky really fast if you think about how many people in Pokemon world have access to effective and reliable hypnosis. On the other hand, compared to how many people there have access to walking natural disasters ... they are probably used to living dangerously.
  21. Story, Monday July 23, 2018

BTW, do you know WHERE he said it? Like, reference?
  22. Story Wednesday July 25, 2018

... wait, that was official graphic novel and not just webcomics? Anyway, the idea also reminds me one movie which wasn't exactly popular but Dan MIGHT saw him. Personally, I think that number of universes is infinite so any similar attempt wouldn't have chance to succeed, however I don't think Dan was talking about number of universes yet ...
