ProfessorTomoe got a reaction from The Old Hack in The Saga of the New Music Computer
My CPU has arrived. The Intel Core i7-12700KF is here. It's in a very small box for something that cost almost $450 before tax. Remarkably small.

ProfessorTomoe got a reaction from The Old Hack in Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required)
I am being scheduled to have another rhizotomy done on me, this time on the right side of my back. It's been hurting for months, well prior to my toe getting infected, but my toe took priority and things just steamrolled from there. This is the first chance I've had to get it done.
I'm waiting for clearance from my primary care doctor to stop taking my Eliquis (blood thinner) for 48 hours prior to the procedure. Once my pain management doctor has that, his scheduler with set me up with a date for the operation. I'm hoping to have it sooner rather than later.

ProfessorTomoe got a reaction from The Old Hack in The Saga of the New Music Computer
This thread is related to my earlier thread, "The Saga of the New Notebook." I am putting together a new desktop system for use as my new Music Computer, the parts gathering of which began in earnest overnight after a 2 1/2 hour long Discord call with my son. We discussed the system from top to bottom, bottom to top, and made a couple of disturbing revelations about my current system in the process (can't believe I haven't checked them until now).
Prior to last night, we (I use the joint we because this is a joint construction process) had decided on one thing: the case. I've bought a Fractal Design Define R5 case, a nice, roomy, quiet case with room for a Blu-ray burner at the top front. After last night's Discord call, we'd decided on everything except the motherboard, and had made one extremely major purchase: an Intel i7-12700KF CPU, one of the few 12th generation Alder Lake CPUs actually available on shelves at close to MSRP. I'm going to try and post a decided-upon parts list in a separate post, using BBCode markup (if that works), but the CPU is a big step forward. I was able to delete three test parts lists based on that decision alone.
I'm looking to complete the buying for this build some time around Black Friday, since that's when I'm guessing I'll see the best prices in the shortest amount of time. I can't wait too long, for various and sundry reasons (number one being that my wife is going to get my old system, and her old system is really starting to flake out). I'll use this thread to keep you updated, and I would appreciate feedback from you on my choices and leads on where I might be able to find better prices.
Thank you for putting up with this project. Again.

I think he will use the secret in a way that makes Tedd feel that Arthur is a "good man," hence the callback from the earlier strip when Tedd and Elliot were in Gym class.

Had a sore spot on my right ear biopsied Friday at the dermatologist's office. I've had it for nigh on a couple of decades. Used to wear a sleep cap around the house all the time, to the point where I rubbed the spot raw. Stopped doing it in the early part of the 00s. However, the spot never went away, and now it's grown more painful and annoying. Got the doctor to check in on it. Here's hoping it hasn't turned malignant.
I took off the biopsy bandage today, and it was full of blood. I mean, you could have made a Scottish black pudding out of it. Nothing fresh was coming out, thankfully, so there's that, but good lord ... anyway, got Mrs. Prof to put some Vaseline and a fresh bandage on the biopsy cut (doctor's orders, both). She'll need to do this daily until the wound heals completely. I can't do it because I can't see the damned thing. Sorry, Mrs. Prof, I didn't mean to burden you with yet another thing ...

I'm finally off various meds that had being a blood thinner as a side effect. I no longer bleed every time I scratch or when Explorer swats at me with her claws out a little bit.

Thankfully Internet| Web Explore is dead and gone.
That being said /me has a new list, the old one being lost in either one of /me's moves or during The Dark Times. So, you get the first page.

Of course not, silly. That would make her a Web Explorer.

At least 12 people are taken to the hospital following a shooting in downtown Austin
This hits home, right in the middle of my old stomping grounds. It happened around the area of 400 E 6th St., which is the entertainment district of Austin. Someone probably got drunk, got mad, and started shooting.
If no one's going to curb guns, then implement the plan I heard about elsewhere: make gun owners take out liability insurance, just like car owners have to. If their gun is used to harm a person or property, they can have a claim filed against them. Paying for insurance might make people think twice about buying a gun, if you can get the law passed and if you can enforce it.

I can see Grace getting a job an NPR. Put a whole other spin on "All things considered."
