<nerd type = "Science Fiction"> Arguably? Star Wars is space fantasy full stop. No aspect of it makes it rise to as high as "SciFi", much less science fiction. It's very good space fantasy, but it's space fantasy never the less. I'm not saying that is a bad thing, just making sure what pigeon hole it goes into is properly identified. </nerd>

I am back and I am sorry for being away for so long. First, I'm certain the weather had many of you were worried about me. Let me assure you that even though Irma made a big mess here in Florida, I was not hard hit. I had to evacuate to a shelter a little farther inland called "Buffalo Creek Middle School". I know I've said this before, but a lot of places here in Florida sound like generic or fictional names. This was certainly no exception. Let me say that the Red Cross, along with the school district, the Sheriff's department, and the National Guard ran the shelter well. It could have been a lot worse. But if you ever look at news footage and see shelters full of cots, don't believe it. I spent three days with just a thin blanket over a cold, tile floor. One of my first purchases afterward was an air mattress with a battery powered air pump. Next, why is a crazy Danish princess attacking Ireland? Ok. I have a lot of comics to read and a lot of threads on which to mindlessly pontificate. This could take a while. But it would probably be unrealistic of me to request No Spoilers, so go ahead and talk about this, that, and the other thing.

There is nothing strange about that, old friend. You have been through medical hell and it is hard to believe that it may finally be nearing its end. I can relate to it -- all too well, in fact.

FINALLY! I've been approved for the trial implant of the spinal stimulator which will hopefully get rid of my back pain! The implant surgery is scheduled for sometime on Wednesday, October 25th (yes, that soon!). They'll be implanting a trial Nevro HF10 spinal cord stimulator that operates at 10 KHz. The "test drive" will last about a week. If I like how it works, they can do a permanent implant later in a second procedure. I've been on the phone about it all day last Friday and once this morning. The office manager got back to me rather quickly today. Also today, I got a letter from Blue Cross with approvals for a ton of different procedures, each of which I guess will be necessary to implant the device. I think it'll be done outpatient, which is a blessing given my recent inpatient experience.
