    Someday?
You mean you already forgot that Dan is being drawn by Sarah?
I would expect Susan would RESPOND the same as to Nature as well - or at least indirectly point out why she doesn't want to go.
Which might end up with her talking about that at least with Diane. Or with Diane backing out, as she's not exactly ready for that either.

Hmm, well from what we have seen of Kevin so far, there's a reasonable chance that he could pass a Turing test, and I think that is a suitable bar for treating him as a sapient being.

My son and I conspired behind his mother's back to commission another webcomic artist (Kittyhawk, http://montrose.is/sketching ) to draw his mother as one of the sailor senshi from Sailor Moon. I've always associated her with Sailor Jupiter because of her kindness and her strength, so we had Kittyhawk try and adapt a 56-year-old woman to a sailor senshi. The results were remarkable. So, I give you my wife's mother's day present: Sailor Brenda, a.k.a. Sailor Scorpio!

She's not really that skinny and her legs aren't that long, but hey - artistic license, okay? Anyway, my wife loves it. She's gonna get it printed on slate to match the Kittyhawk drawings of our two cats I had commissioned last year.

I'm tempted to write Dan to let him know that some people (well at least this one) were confused by the previous comic even after reading the commentary and following the links. (Incidentally it's very strange to be in the "confused by the comic because I forgot things from previous strips" camp; I guess I need to re-read the last few years of the comic.)
I'm glad the comic points out why Grace was so distracted, though I still think it would have been better for those of us reading it as it comes out if it had been explained in the previous comic or commentary (it won't be much of an issue for those reading it in the archives). (I also still wish Dan wasn't jumping around in the timeline so much.)
As for Grace's goodness, Justin wouldn't be so surprised she doesn't see herself that way if he knew about how she reacted to her part in Damien's death. Of course her feeling guilt over a foe's death is a sign of her goodness, but it also means her assessment of her own goodness will not be as high as that of an outside observer. And while the most dramatic instance, that was hardly an isolated incident; Grace is well aware she is a flawed individual, and the flaws she sees in herself weigh heavily on her.
Incidentally, I hope Justin was just kidding about Grace defending her "title". For one thing, bragging about being the most good individual around is not the sort of thing one would expect the most good individual around to do. For another, when used seriously "goody-two-shoes" is an insult, usually directed at those perceived as self-righteous - not exactly a title most people would want to fight for.

It's not just a question of physical strength, either. If one is blackmailed or otherwise coerced through non-physical means into having sex, it still counts as rape. (And of course there's situations where the person is in no state to make a decision about consent one way or another, but that's been touched on already in this conversation in relation to alcohol and mind-control.)

I picture Grace's antennae being more like cephalopod appendages, which can be extremely adaptable.

Does it have to be all day? Because I failed that (it's hard to be constantly happy when you have the flu - or chronic depression for that matter).
I did take some time to enjoy a beautiful sunset, though.

Some people would never admit to the existence of such a thing as an Islamic Golden Age.
And you passed up the opportunity to tell us "Who else?"
If there are any young nuclear researchers on here, you have now increased the chances of one of them actually naming such a molecule that last one.  Just ask Eriovixia gryffindori or any of the other species named for Harry Potter references, or Stephen Colbert, or the wasp that twists its abdomen like Shakira, or various other minor planets, organisms, laws (I especially like Newton's Flaming Laser Sword, much sharper than Occam's Razor), chemicals, or units of measurement.
Biologists are definitely the biggest culprits here.
Everyone knows the name Stephanie Clifford?

Very important event for 24 February
1939 - Columbia Pictures releases a documentary featuring Moses Harry Horwitz, Louis Feinberg, and Jerome Lester Horwitz exploring areas where crime affects archeology.  It also highlights the near accidental process of discovering lost tombs eventually leading to the recovery of the mummy of King Rootin' Tootin'.  We Want Our Mummy with Moe Howard, Larry Fine, and Curly Howard.

    And LOT of transformations, obviously.
    And herself as immortal.
Still doesn't mean it's not happening in some parallel universe. After all, Dan is Sarah's character.

Omega I'm pretty certain is the form Grace used to fight Damien, yeah, there's spines on the tails, but judging by her dream, the spines are probably not from the Jeremy form or the legion form used against the goo.
Omega form might also apply to the non-spikey "Shade Tail" form as well, the spines not actually adding to her power.

My thinking is that Ms Pompoms dislikes men so much she doesn't see why anybody (male or female) would want to be in a relationship with one.

This strip and thread got me thinking about Grace's cover story... On the one hand, it would be easier to remember and give people a better understanding of Grace if the cover story was as close to the truth as possible without breaking the masqurade (I'm not sure how you'd deal with the childhood in a lab part, but the "raised by an abusive kidnapper" part works fine if you leave out his powers and plans for world domination). On the other hand, it wouldn't really be fair to expect Grace to tell everyone she was abused, and I'm glad Mr. Verres didn't ask that of her.

One of our cats is in the hospital.
A few days back, Baker, the healthier of our two cats - one who usually bounces off the walls in the mornings and at night - started throwing up at mealtime. Yesterday, he didn't eat, and he barfed a very large amount that was very smelly. My wife decided to take him to a 24-hour fully-staffed vet office.
Some background info: my wife recently brought out her serger sewing machine for the first time in decades to help make some cat trap covers. The sick cat managed to unroll one of the spools on top of the serger and string it around the house. She suspected that he might have done more: that he might have eaten some of the string. Hence, the emergency visit to the vet.
As it turns out, her suspicions were correct. X-rays showed looping of the bowel on one side of Baker's abdomen. The staff surgeon operated immediately. He had to cut into three areas of Baker's intestines to remove all of the string that he'd swallowed, but at least the string was intact and hadn't cut through any of his GI tract. The surgeon had operated just in time.
This afternoon, we went to the hospital and paid Baker a visit. He looked quite miserable, with an incision in his abdomen and an IV with fluids and with a motility factor going into him. He had yet to eat anything. The nurse showed us the string he'd swallowed, and it was a rather good amount. Scary.
Mrs. Prof brought a couple of things up with her. One item was a blanket he sleeps on. She put it in his kennel, and he immediately moved onto it, drawn by his own smell. The other bit was a few packets of meat treats. He wasn't up for taking them yet. He was up for a good deal of attention from her, and by the time we left, he looked considerably perked up.
Later on at home, just before Mrs. Prof left to run some cat errands, she broke down. She cried, saying she knew it was her fault that Baker had eaten the string. I reassured her as best as I could, telling her that there was no way we could have predicted that Baker would have done what he did, and that she took the proper steps as soon as we figured out what was going on.
So, for now, Baker is stable, still at the hospital until at least Thursday. Mrs. Prof is more or less stable, although this is going to hurt for a long time. She's ordered a case for her serger so that Baker can't get to the spools anymore. In the end, we're waiting for the hospital to call us on Thursday and let us know if Baker can come home.

    On Jan. 4 in History:
1642 - Charles I of England tries to have several members of Parliament arrested. There is some resistance to the idea, to say the least.
1643 - Sir Isaac Newton is born. Yes, today. Not on Christmas, because the Julian Calendar is stupid.
1649 - The remnants of Parliament (known as the "Rump" Parliament) vote to put Charles I on trial for treason. Best served cold, indeed!
1847 - Samuel Colt sells his revolver to the U.S. government, who immediately place an order for 10 million more, despite the military saying they only need around 120,000.
1853 - Solomon Northup regains his freedom after being kidnapped and forced into slavery 12 years prior. Several Academy Award Statuettes are prepared in advance.
1854 - In a remarkable coincidence, the McDonald Islands are discovered by none other than Captain William McDonald. What are the odds? Problems arise when his ship won't fit in the drive thru lane.
1865 - The New York Stock Exchange opens out of the growing need for a quick shorthand method of measuring the country's prosperity without actually talking to any people.
1889 - Feeling they've kept up the pretense long enough, the U.S. government backs out on yet another deal with Native Americans and opens up vast swaths of land in Oklahoma for settlement on a "first come, first serve" basis, to begin on April 22. Of course everyone waits patiently for that date to arrive, and everything is done entirely above-board.
1903 - Topsy the elephant is electrocuted. The execution was recorded by Thomas Edison's film company. While it is true that Edison once often electrocuted animals in attempts to discredit Nikola Tesla's AC power, that dispute is long since settled and Edison is involved now purely "for the lulz."
1958 - Sputnik 1 falls to Earth after three successful months of beeping.
1999 - Former pro wrestler Jesse Ventura is sworn is as governor of Minnesota. Americans are assured this is the silliest that U.S. politics will ever get.
