I'd say that some people are more strongly gendered than others. I'd bet the Elliot was never strongly gendered, which made adapting to his magic easier than it would have been if he were.

I wonder, if Elliot got one of those hoodies with the large front pocket, put the spellbook in there, then transformed, would he merge with his spellbook and instantly know every spell he has? Honestly, I feel that would be cheating.

Things You Only Noticed On Reread

Not sure if anyone's ever mentioned this in the old forums, but I noticed in the commentary of this page, Dan say's: I know Dan did the commentaries "Tedd et Tam" last year, but I don't recall Tedd mentioning he cooks better when female prior to Grace's birthday, so correct me if I'm wrong, but did Dan slip a spoiler in the commentary?

I understand about the limits on battery storage vs weight. I understand how a chemical reactant holds more energy in less space and how nuclear power holds orders of magnitude more energy for the same space. I was talking about graphene capacitors because batteries aren't viable and there's only so many practical and portable options. A capacitor might not be as good as a chemical solution ("lasing a stick of dynamite" if you will) but perhaps good for a reasonable shot or two...

It's Elliot's version of Curiosity and Logic, or Diane's angel and devil. Just a representation of his mental state. I just don't think it's something Dan would introduce. This is the same universe that has magic force transformations as being safe. I don't think magic would then slowly manipulate someone's identity to fit what it thought they were. Just doesn't seem "in character" for Dan's magic system.

Because war... war never changes. You can try to play nice, and be the peaceful mediator, but eventually, you'll realise you're a lone Courier in a world forged in flame into an awful temper. Especially when idiots who model themselves after Romans in dress but fail to understand Roman philosophy, tactics, even ethics. Sure, the Romans weren't great, but still. There's more to Rome than crucifixions and mangled Latin. If this false Caesar was not into Romans, he might well have been into Native American stuff. Or arab stuff. Or modelled himself after the British empire. The wasteland could do with a cup of tea. And the outcome would have been the same. A gang of mad dog killers, aping their betters from history, but failing to learn from it. Maybe they were going for a cargo cult, by shaping themselves to be reminscent of Rome, they would attract the trappings of the rest of Rome, but alas, all they've done is proven is that their version of Rome can burn down into nothing in just one day.

    The Old Hack

Incidentally, the MMO The Old Republic from Bioware does it differently. While the Empire on the surface consists of bad guys and the Republic of good guys, the choices in the missions consist of Light Side/Dark Side choices for yourself. Just as there are some surprisingly decent people in the Empire, there are also some truly rotten apples in the Republic. Ultimately, the choice of Good or Evil rests with the player, not the faction.

Yikes! I hadn't heard that detail before. I now have a mental image of Thom valiantly trying to stop the server from crashing to the floor with his own body, and it makes me want to award him a virtual purple heart for taking the hit(s)!
