Cookies in general are not inherently magical, but Akiko has a cookie-based magic affinity. </sillyspec>

    HYDRATE!!!!
Seriously. We're only dealing with the Montana heat, not the Texas heat, and we have a cooler in the back seat of the car that usually has somewhere between 4 and 20 blackbirds bottles of water in it.
That's what this thread is for.

Does this dead-tree book auto-update regularly?
    No?
Then the title is inaccurate. It doesn't cover a period ending in the present. It covers a period ending at some specific date in the past.

Because having that horde of fire-throwers go into battle against people with non-magical weapons, and cutting off their power just as the battle began, was an effective way to get rid of a bunch of people who knew about and had experience with magic and thus would be more likely to discover the new rules quickly, and were likely to share the knowledge to a horde of people?

On the old boards, long before this magic reset stuff came up, I wrote a scene of Noriko being informed that she's being seconded to the United States for a while to do some high-energy work with a magical engineer... named Tedd Verres...

Cats customarily lie down and go to sleep. Brownie has been observed getting the order of those actions wrong - and isn't a kitten.

Hire Castela. She's showing some skill at hand-carving stone. Although it might be wise to have one of your priest-scientists run a Geiger counter over a sample of her work, because she uses a high-energy technique.

    Oedipus gets a bum rap.
He was separated from his parents at a very early age (due to a prophecy that he would kill his father the king), so he didn't know his biological mother and father.
Years later some stranger attacked him on the road for no apparent reason, and he successfully defended himself from the murderous stranger.
Continuing on his journey, he arrived at a city in crisis. In addition to said crisis, its king was missing and presumed dead, and had no heirs. He resolved the crisis and in exchange was offered the throne if he would marry the prior king's widow - whom he had never met before. He accepted the deal.
Later he found out that the stranger who had attacked him was his father and the widow he had married was his mother. Which he got more than a bit upset about.

By some estimates, the most recent common ancestor of essentially-all Europeans may have been as recent as 1000 years ago.
Adrian is estimated to be what, at least 600 years old? He's not allowed to be part of a military organization, but can't exactly explain why or by whose authority - so he probably would have had to move around a lot over that period to avoid being drafted.
Him being ancestral to 10% of Europeans is plausible, assuming he's actually roughly as fertile as the average human male.
(Also noteworthy: it's estimated that if you - being a randomly selected person - list the names of all four of your great-grandfathers, there's a better than 50% chance that you are mistaken about at least one of them. It's not as if sexual cheating is rare...)

First, there's a difference between not wanting to be male, and not being willing to be male for specific reasons or events.
Second, specifically on the issue of reproduction, Ellen and Elliot are as close to identical twins as it's possible to be while still being different sexes (something that happens naturally approximately once in every 246 sets of fraternal twins). If Ellen were MV1'd you'd probably get Elliot. I suspect that at some point in the future Ellen and Nanase will take a long vacation together to somewhere they won't need ID, and Ellen will come back pregnant, then as soon as they get back Nanase will get artificially inseminated with Elliot as the sperm donor.
(I am SO glad I won't be living with them when they are both pregnant.)
At this point I think Elliot is gender-neutral. That is, he's perfectly comfortable with and enjoys being male, and never has a strong desire to be female (having a strong desire for some benefit that incidentally, in his case, comes with a female form - such as flying - is different, as is a desire to stay with his established daily rituals)... and then when he IS female, is perfectly comfortable with and enjoys being female and never has a strong desire to be male.
Or he could be agender, which isn't quite the same thing. It would lack the "and enjoys" part - in place of that is a "doesn't give a sh** about" part.
My theory is that most people who are gender-neutral or agender simply assume they are cisgender - they never have a noticeable internal gender conflict, so it takes some outside event or circumstance to cause them to engage in introspection regarding their gender identity... and Elliot is known to be resistant to introspection.
(For that matter, most people who are cisgender probably just assume so, without engaging in the introspection that would confirm it.)
(And this extends to people who are mildly trans or fluid. I'm mildly fluid - if it weren't for EGS and Rain I probably would never have realized it. I've come to suspect that my wife is mildly trans - and she agrees that my reasons for suspecting that are at least plausible.)

I think this has been covered before, but just in case it hasn't - make sure you tell the doctors about EVERYTHING you're taking regularly or semi-regularly for medicinal reasons. Prescription or OTC. Vitamins and herbs included. Also ask the doctor and/or pharmacist about interactions with foods. Grapefruit juice isn't the only food with lots of drug interactions.

I don't agree that we've seen Grace being really bad at keeping secrets... except when valid need-to-know says they shouldn't be kept.
The main 8, as a semi-independent magical cabal, has valid need-to-know about other magic users in the area, particularly those who are likely to be significant allies (even if only of convenience), foes, or problems. Mr. Raven falls into that category (potential ally). Rhoda and Catalina being magic-users does also (potential problem, considering how poor THEY are at keeping secrets). And Noah (potential ally).
They don't have valid need-to-know about just how close Raven once was to Mr. and Mrs. Verres. We've seen no clear evidence that Grace has blabbed on that.
Nor on Rhoda and Catalina's relationship - see previous comment on those two.
Nor on Sam being trans, unless and until his relationship with Sarah progresses a good bit farther - at which point, hopefully, Sam will tell her himself. (And then it won't be need-to-know for the rest of the group, just for Sarah.)

Based on my observation, they'll be repeating the less-important points for at least a week, and the unsubstantiated rumors for at least a month, but never get around to mentioning the important points at all.

Tedd probably barely remembers his mother at all - or perhaps less than that. My opinion is that "Ugly Cousin" is a defensive reaction to being physically attracted to a close relative before he was old enough to have the slightest clue what that physical attraction is all about.
    As for self-cest,
    not necessarily, in EGS.
