The Moderator: Very true, and it is greatly appreciated by those of us responsible for the forums.

Expanding on a couple points here and adding my two cents, what makes a career "successful" is a subjective metric. Some people consider a successful career to be one with a lot of income. Others focus on fame and admiration. Impact and chances to improve the lives of others is another common metric. I personally use a quality of life metric (is the job covering my financial obligations and do I enjoy the work.)
Children are more often going to gravitate towards the fame and admiration metric (or a separate "awesomeness" metric) as that's a concept that they'll know and many consider important. A lot of children don't have a firm grasp on the value of money (certainly they know you buy things with money, but they don't quite grasp the work and effort that goes into getting money.) Also, many children don't have a developed enough sense of empathy (or a concept of legacy) for the impact metric to out-weigh the fame metric in importance.

Monastic record keeping was pretty good during that period, actually. And while a lot has been lost, much has survived by copying, and I assume secret magical organizations would be pretty good at that.

Certainly. I imagine if it would be difficult to determine if the energy of magic would count as one massive whole, or countless separate pieces working in concert.

For some reason I'm reminded of the flavor text from the Spellbook card from Magic:the Gathering.

I still love the line, "I'm too young and too male to be the mother of a seventeen-year-old female me!" It encapsulates the absurdity of the whole series in a single sentence.

And suddenly certain things click, like one reason I like Elliot so much.  In him, I see a small reflection of my son.

A story, by way of explanation:
My son is 19.  Lives with me now, but when he was living with his mom, there was a girl he dated towards the end of middle school.  That ended when her folks moved her to another school precisely because they (being pretentious religious jackasses) didn't approve of him.
High school comes along and he finds himself back in the same school as her.  By this time, she's started to try to sort out identity issues and has a fairly serious girlfriend.  To my son, this is no big deal; the only part that weirds him out at all is that he is the one his ex comes to for relationship advice, and being a friend he listens.  I got the impression he may have been one of a very few who did that.
Advance a couple of years.  My son's ex is still with the same girlfriend (partly due to having my son as a good listener), but has realized that he (here's where I'm changing pronouns) is trans.  Again, my son doesn't bat an eyelash; he just goes on supporting his friend.
So the last panel on today's comic  -- that hits home in an unexpected way.  A good way.

Back when I was playing "Champions" I had a character who had an absurdly high amount of telekinesis.  In Champions, one of the things you had to have was a special effect of your power.  Mine was "some one else does it".  Not a limitation to make the power cheaper, just thats how it worked.  Most of the other players thought I had mind control as my power.

The solution to reliability issues: get rid of the scriptwriters.
And on the software side, you'd be amazed what percentage of code is dedicated to preventing the users from screwing things up. Software would be much easier without users.

No. A flying hall monitor would interfere with the ability of the students to see the murals.

I haven't seen the episode (I haven't seen much of Star Trek and most of what I've seen is TNG and Voyager), but reading through the episode detail on the Star Trek wiki, it seems the phaser banks started shorting out after the Enterprise took a hit from the Romulan ship using a weapon they'd never seen before and was strong enough to tear through most of their shields with ease. Which if that's the case, then it's not so much bad hardware as hardware that can't hold up to weaponry beyond expected parameters.

For me, if it's not important enough for them to leave me a message, then it must not be important enough for me to call them back.

    Dear Big Fashion,
Regarding your advertisement in the January 18, 2017 EGS NP comic.
    Please stop.

Pandora's plan isn't the real issue here; it's that Adrian believes his mother was behind Dex summoning that dragon. If Adrian had talked to Sarah, he'd know Pandora would have put a box on the amulet, probably because she knows that few people would connect "Pandora" with an archaic Greek word for a storage jar. Unfortunately, Adrian probably has no idea Sarah exists at all. Noah might know about her from hanging out with Elliot, or maybe by watching his webcast, but won't have any idea she's had contact with Pandora. Noah may have had no idea this woman is Adrian's mother until just now.
It's also possible that the first thing Pandora says in the next installment is "Who's Noah?"

I get the feeling that, because of the link caused by the shared enchantment, their other enchantments are going to start to bleed together, which will certainly be interesting.
